How do you remove the battery from a BMW 550i?
The battery is in the trunk, same side as the gas cover door.
First, you need to remove the covers (twist the plastic retainers (2x) 1/4 turn)
remove the bar that keeps the battery down (2 screws)
disconnect the negative terminal (easy)
on the positive terminal, lift the red cover out of the way, and disconnect one set of cables. then lift up the other part of the red cover and loosen the screw to remove from the positive terminal.
loosen the (long) screw that holds the battery down, it is closest to you.
disconnect the venting tubing, on the far side of the battery
Lift up the battery, making sure that you're not pulling/tugging on any wires (i had to disconnect one cable connection, but i might not have been necessary. just be careful)
put in your new battery, and repeat everything in reverse.
How can you find a 1995 BMW M3 E36 3.2 liter Euro-spec engine?

It is cheaper to buy a BMW in the United States with US dollars then Euros in Germany, for a couple of reasons. If you have noticed that BMWs have gone up in price over the past couple of years it is because of the exchange rate. Before one US dollar would get you 1.25 Euros, now the trend has changed. One US dollar get around 0.75 Euros. So in essence when you bought a BMW years ago and paid $30,000 US dollars that would equate to 37,500 Euros. Now take into account the exchange rate change. A $30,000 US Dollar BMW would equate to 22,500 Euros. This is a difference of 15,000 Euros for one vehicle. They make less money per car now but since the US is the largest market for BMWs they will not charge an extra 15,000 Euros per vehicle. That would lose great market share. BMWs have gone up to help cover the loss in the exchange rate. Therefore, since Germany operates on Euros the exchange rate doesn't affect them in country and the price of the vehicle goes up accordingly to their internal inflation rate. The biggest reason to not purchase a BMW in Europe is taxes. Depending on where you live the sales tax rate differs but will be somewhere between 4% to 9%. The sales tax rate eludes me currently in Germany but it is much higher somewhere near 17%. Now if you buy that car in Germany for 17% and you ship it to the US you will have to pay registration and sales tax fees when it enters the US. Also, if you buy it in Germany you will have to ship the vehicle at a much greater price. Since BMW ships thousands of vehicles a year they get a destination charge from the Germany factor to the dealership at approximately $550.00. If you ship a vehicle on your own you would spend approximately $1000.00 to $2,500.00 to ship the vehicle. My recommendation is to buy a BMW in the US at an authorized dealership and save yourself the headache and cost. Currently, BMW has an awesome program called European Pick-up. If you are going to Europe for vacation and are buying a new BMW, BMW will have your car ready for you at a dealership in Europe and you can drive you vehicle while you are on vacation. They even pay for your insurance. Once you are ready to come back to the US, you simply take the vehicle to an authorized BMW location and they will ship it to your local BMW dealership. This is all offered at no extra cost. Hope this was helpful for you.

How do you change the battery on a 2004 BMW 3 series?
All E46 Models from 1999 through 2005 are basically the same. First off have the presence of mind to record your radio channels since some models of the radio will loose them all when you disconnect the battery. Now get some safety glasses and put them on.
The battery is in the trunk on the passenger side under a panel that makes up the load floor. Some cars you can simply lift this panel up and out, but others, like my wagon requires you to remove the adjacent side panel (look for a rectangular button at the top of the side panel if this is the then push it and the panel will unlatch and move toward you). After the floor plate is removed you will see the battery.
Using a 10 mm wrench remove the negative terminal clamp. Always disconnect the negative first and reconnect it last. It will help you avoid blowing up the battery. This is also a good reason to be wearing safety glasses. Then, using the 10 mm wrench remove the positive terminal. It has a large bulge and more than the one wire since it has an emergency disconnect that severs the electrical connection if an airbag goes off.
The battery is clamped down by a large Philips screw. Unscrew it enough that it turns easily. Then you can remove the 10mm bolt that holds the battery and this clamp plate to the car. Some models have a large plastic floor support that interferes with this so you may have to use a small (8 or 9 mm) wrench to remove the two screws that hold this plastic piece in place. Once the bracket and the plastic are out of the way you can lift out the battery. I suggest using a battery carrier to get it out (the ones that simply slip over the terminals are cheap and work well). Careful though, this is a heavy battery to sustain all of the electric gizmos that these cars carry.
Installation is the reverse of above. Be sure not to over tighten the plastic bits and always attach the positive before the negative.

Will a BMW 325i dme fit in a BMW 325is?
Depending on Model Year. After 1998 thru 2005. BMW made the operation of a DME dependent on the electronic mating of the EWS unit under the Dash (Drivers Side). Therefore once the car was started (in the factory) it immediately burned in a rolling set of codes that was specific to that EWS unit into the DME. Permanently altering that DME to work only with that EWS unit. There a few companies that have been able to replace those chipsets to reburn the DME bmwdme.net ....However you cannot swap a DME from one BMW to another without replacing and re-matching the internal parts of the DME with your EWS. It just will not work.

Would it be smart to buy an old BMW for a first car?
== == == == GO FOR IT!(as long as the car has been maintained)
Personally, I took that risk 5 years ago. I bought a 1986 BMW 325es, it had 170,000 + miles on the car when I bought it. After taking it for a drive, I had to give it a shot. It drove way too nice to be almost 20 years old.
I bought the car for $2500 bucks, everything worked. They guy I bought it from took good care of it as do most BMW owners. I will tell you, I will never look back. It has been an amazing car! I love the way it drives, the solid feel and all the luxury I get at a discounted rate. My car has a sunroof, power everything, and a computer that tells me how many miles left in the tank, average miles per gallon, average speed... etc... this car was beyond its time!
Of course, because it is older I have had to do some minor maintenance on the car. The only disadvantage is the high price of parts. But, you soon forget when your out on the road again.
what are you considering purchasing? mike

Change the battery on a BMW r1150rt?
Not a problem...Well, sort of...
First remove the left mirror(just pull out on it. then remove the two wires on it that power the signal. remove both seats. An Allen wrnch will pull off the 10 to 12 screws on your left side farings, you will also have to take the cover off of your pull out handle that helps you get it on the centerstand. That comes off easily by turning the two screws at the top of it 45 degrees(or until you feel it loosen). now, go to the airbox right under the drivers seat, and remove the two Phillips head screws on the top of it. then you see the plastic pipe that runs to it from the left side of the engine, at the front of it there is an Allen screw (silver) that holds it in place. Remove it. now you need to lift the top cover of the airbox off, and where the pipe connects to it, lift it out of the slot and remove. Nows the tricky part. the battery is tucked in the pretty tight , so wiggle it out of the left side of your bike. It will come out, just pull. Now you will have the battery hanging off the left side of the bike- that's as far as she goes-just unhook the terminals.
Will 24 inch rims fit on a BMW x5?
Contrary to popular belief, YES, you can fit,24 inch wheels on a Bmw X5 suv. I know this not because I listened to a bunch of computer geeks calculating the answer mathematically. But because I bought a set of 24 inch wheels and put them on mine. They don't rub. They don't restrict me from turning left, right or doing donuts in the local Walmart parking lot at night. And as far as pot holes, yeah sure if you hit a big enough one hard enough it will probably Crack the rim and blow the tire out. But I've done that with 45 series tires on 17 inch rims. The idea is to NOT hit giant pot holes and pay attention when your driving. I have yet to even bend a rim. So to all those wondering if it can be done the answer is without a doubt YES you can and you should. To those of you that disagree guess what? Nobody cares what you think. Keep your smaller rims smaller d***and smaller bank accounts to yourself in your own lane. I'm sure there are women out there like you who share your love for all those smaller little things and you'll find happiness and a life some day. Mic drop
