Long answer:
My wording of "step up" is not entirely accurate - in video image processing, within a device the image is stored and processed at the highest quality possible (most of the time), and then only downgraded to the type of connection required. The following is the breakdown of the three most common connection types for analog video.
Video information usually consists of luminance (brightness) information, and chroma (color) information. This may or may not be explicitly synchronized by provided synchronization lines (as it is with a PC monitor). The most common standard used today is the so-called RGB - that's Red, Green and Blue (the three colors from the additive palette that can make up any other color when mixed).
When you combine that RGB information into Chroma and separate Luminance (brightness) from it, you get S-Video (4 pins, 2 wire pairs, one for Chroma and one for Luma). Of course some information is lost due to this combining, and quality suffers.
In order to get that information to "fit" into just one pair of wires (e.g. an RCA-RCA cable) it must be "mixed" in a way (not dissimilar to air TV broadcasting), as to have them 'pass through each other' without losing them. Once again - quality suffers from this, as the signals influence each other. This is Composite video.
How do you program universal remote?
These days, almost all the electronic gadgets are accompanied by the remote controls. Programming a remote control is as easy as it is to use it. Remote controls come with codes and some without codes.
To program the remote with the codes, firstly, turn on the electronic gadget for which you are going to use this remote, by pressing the On and Off button. Then locate the Setup or the Code Search key on the remote control. These buttons may vary from remote to remote. Just hold on the setup or the code search key for 5 - 10 seconds or till the light on the remote turns on. Again it depends on the different remotes that the light will blink or be steady. If you are programming for your TV, press the TV button on the remote or whichever electronic device you are programming your remote for. Now use the numbers on your remote to enter the 3 or 4 digit code for the device. These codes are given in the manual given with the electronic gadget. If you have lost the manual, these codes are easily available on the internet too. Once you have found the code, enter it and you will notice that the light on your remote control has turned off. Now try using it to switch off your electronic device with the remote and if you can do that, your remote has been programmed.
As for the remote controls that come without the codes, the programming is a bit different and a little time consuming. After the light on the remote has turned on, start pressing the Up button for channels on your remote. You may have to do this many times, may be 5 - 10 minutes. As soon as the channel changes, your remote is programmed. Now turn your electronic device on and off from your remote to finish programming.
However, if you are not able to program your remote with the Up channel button, try it with the Power button on the remote. Press the button a few times till the device you are programming gets turned off. When it does get turned off, you have successfully programmed your remote control.
