The skin covering that a rat does have is a cartilage that is covered by fur. The fur helps the rat keep warm. The rats that live in areas that are very cold therefore have a lot of fur.

At six weeks of age is the earliest you can separate babies from their mother successfully. However, if at all possible I would suggest waiting at least 8-12 weeks especially, if you are not clear on the actual age of the babies...

Actually, mice can reproduce at 4 weeks of age, so it's best to separate them at 3-4 weeks of age. If you have any doubts, if your baby mice are trying to eat solid foods, you should be able to separate them in a day or two.

A rat has no breeding season, so it can mate anytime. If you put a male and female rat in the same cage, they will most likely mate. They could probably breed anywhere.

Mice can be given baths in very little water, although they really do not like water. They have a self survival instinct that makes them frantic and giving them baths is very difficult as they jump, cling and try to climb out of the bathing container. Mice in themselves are very clean animals and if you watch will see that they clean and bath themselves regularly.

To bathe a mouse add a small amount of mild dish soap to the tepid warm water in a container. Put mouse in while holding it in one hand. Gently dip fingers of other hand and rub mouse until throughly wet. Gently towel dry, being careful not to expose to drafts. Mice do not need to be bathed. They have a grooming instinct that they follow unless they are ill. It's not necessary. Mice groom themselves a lot, maybe even more than cats do. It's also a bad idea to get a mouse wet--they're little and will chill easily, and respiratory infections are dangerous for them. If your mouse is dirty, leave it alone and it will clean itself. If it's sick and not grooming, you can try rubbing it gently with a soft, damp cloth, but most mice won't stand for that, unless they're very, very tame. Mice will also groom each other, if you have more than one living together.

Yes, they certainly can. Most rats love sweet things, & honey just happens to be a healthier option.

It depends, if it is two males, maybe, IF one is already established dominant, the other might just back down, but in other hands it might challenge that one. So, I would keep a close on if two male rabbits are together. If it is two females they will be perfectly fine together.

Male rats are calm and lazy. (I should know, I had 3! Now I have 1.) Females are rambunctious and want to climb everywhere. (my dad had 2. He just has 1 now.) Hope that helped! PS Rats are GREAT pets! :D

Maybe rats that are resistant to poison. I don't know if those exist, but there are bacteria that survive with antibiotics when that's supposed to kill them, so it makes sense in theory.

The best kind of food you can feed you mouse or rat is the same thing you eat. Well, not junk food, but good food. Fruits and veggies, bits of chicken, pasta, beans... all the good stuff. Whatever you have for supper, put a little bit in a little bowl for your pet. It's waaay cheaper than bought food and it's way healthier for the animal. Hope this helps. Bye.

Good: Bunnies are usually docile, good with kids, most are easily groomed, you can put harnesses on them and take them for short walks.

Bad: Bunnies poop and pee A LOT. They also need large cages to be able to excercise in. They can be startled by loud noises or by cats and dogs chasing them. Unfixed males may obsessively hump things.

Good: The bottom of a bird's cage is easily removed and cleaned. Some birds can learn to talk, many can learn some cool tricks. With time and patience the bird can form a deep bond with it's owner.

Bad: Some birds are noisy and some bite... hard! Be sure to find a nice bird when choosing one as a pet. Don't just buy it because of it's looks.

Good: Rats can be funny and interesting pets to watch. Rats socialized well will not mind being handled by humans. Offering them a treat in your hand can help them learn to trust you. They don't need as much room as a bunny does.

Bad: They are social animals so it's good to put them in groups but you have to make sure you know each rat's gender. If males and females are put together their will be lots of babies! Rats that aren't socialized with humans can and will bite out of fear. Rats only live a few years so if you were thinking of a long-living pet the rat isn't for you.
