Is a female garter snake more aggressive then a male garter snake?
They can be, especially if they're gravid - and I speak from experience !
Years ago, I bought a garter snake that had (wrongly) been sold as a male. Every time I picked 'him' up - 'he' would whip round and bite me ! I put up with it for about four weeks - and was about to 'admit defeat' and sell the snake on to another keeper - when I woke up one morning to find she'd given birth to 12 babies !

Our little Dekay's snake curled up and died today. Very sad. He was the easiest, most wonderful little guy and we'll miss him terribly. I just came looking for answers to see if snakes curl up when they die too and I found your question. It was really, really hot today (about 98 degree heat wave) and he normally stretches out long to stay cool. So it was interesting that he was all curled up beside his dish of water. I think he knew he was going into a sound sleep and was going to pass on - because he usually goes into hiding when he curls up to sleep. But today, he was right out in the open.
He's probably fine ! The shedding process takes a lot of energy out of a snake - which is why they're usually hungry after they've shed. Additionally - snakes are almost blind during shedding - due to fluid being excreted between the layers of the new and old skin. He's just conserving energy.
