What food do all turtles eat?

what Does Turtles eat?

Turtles are herbivores.(they eat veggies)

Some type of vegetable are lettuce or carrot. I DON`T RECOMMEND you to feed brocolli.

You can feed them grape leaves. Also for fruits, you can feed them figs.

Actually, depending on the type of turtle you're referring to, turtles in general ARE omnivores, if you include land, aquatic, and semi-aquatic turtles.

Type 1:Land turtles/tortoises. Most species of this type are almost always herbivores. Examples include Box turtles and Harriet, the famous, formerly lived Galapagos turtle. (deceased in 2006)

Type 2: Aquatic turtles. Depending on the species, they are carnivores, consisting of mostly meat, with a small percentage of vegetables. Examples include sea turtles such as Leatherbacks, and Loggerheads.

Type 3: Semi Aquatic turtle

These kinds of turtles are mostly omnivores, meaning that they eat 50% of fruits and veggies and 50% meat, but this could depend on the environments that they live in. Hatchings tend to prefer a protein-based diet while older turtles tend to lean towards a more vegetarian-based diet. Examples include map turtles, painted turtles, and many pond slider species such as Red Eared Slider, and Yellow-Bellied slider.

Should you put a turtle in a nonfiltered tank?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You don't need a filter for the tank. But if you don't have one, you will have to change the water every week, or every other week at least. When you have a filter -- like the Whisper filter -- you only have to change the water a few times a year.

First find a good lake, creek, river or stream that your sure has turtles in it, depending on what type of turtle your looking for get turtle food sticks you can get them at your local pet store, grind them into powder then sprinkle it on meat, it doesnt really matter what kind of meat turtkey works really good. then take the meat and put it on a river bank wait awhile and hide, eventually a turtle will come make sure the turtle isn't big enough to bite ur fricken head off, then go and book it and catch the little guy. remember if your going to keep him find out if it's legal first and find out their tank requirements, if not always return something where you found it, (expecially your friends wallet) good luck

What type of turtle that live in the pond?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The answer depends on where you live. Obviously, one kind of turtle may survive in a pond in Florida but not in a pond in Maine, while another may be the exact opposite. Some species may also be illegal in your state or town. Some generally hardy and common pond turtles are red-eared sliders, snapping turtles, and painted turtles. Painted turtles have several subspecies across the country, mostly based on their distribution, so finding one to fit your climate shouldn't be that difficult.

What size is a pond turtle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well, red ear sliders can get 14 inches while map turtles at the largest are around 8 to 10 inches. Have two large ponds in Florida and have six turtles. Soft turtles can get huge and grow to the size of what environment they are living in. Have one in its own pond almost two feet round.

What is the appearance of a snapping turtle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

All turtles have a shell. It can be a hard bone shell or it can be like a thick leather shell called a soft-shell.

Tortoises are actually considered turtles also. Torts are 'land turtles.'

Turtles all have scales and lay eggs. They all have claws (except sea turtles.)

They have a cloaca/vent where their sexual and excretory systems are held.

They have long necks to reach foods and to breath from under water. They breath underwater by using their long necks to reach up, so only their noses are above the water's surface.

Turtles are masters of survival!

How long do aquatic turtles live?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Aquatic turtles, such as red-eared sliders, live for several decades, and can potentially outlive human beings. I remember reading an article about the oldest known aquatic turtle still alive in the United States; it was around 60 years old (almost as old as its owner). I tried to find the article again, but I couldn't. Sorry.

Sea turtles can live even longer; it is not unusual for them to live well past 100 years old.

I had a turtle and i spent about 100 $ on him in one visit of the pet store. I got him water falls grass plants, you name it. And soon enough I found out that turtles love to dig or burro. His whole habitat was destroyed. Into wreckage that you couldn't believe a turtle not even 6 in. long could do. so i wouldn't recommend too nice of a habitat.

Can turtles make babies?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes. Interbreeding between different subspecies is quite possible, such as red-eared sliders and yellow-bellied sliders, or Eastern box turtles and Ornate box turtles. Different species within the same genera is also possible, but the offspring are usually infertile. In very rare circumstances, two animals from different genera can interbreed, but they usually share a close evolutionary history.

What to do to grow your turtle fast?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Feeding your turtle regularly will definitely increase it's size, although whatever anyone may suggest, do not overfeed your turtle to make it grow faster. Doing this can cause serious illnesses for your turtle. Keep in mind when feeding your turtle that it will almost always keep eating, so don't just assume that it is still hungry.

The size of the turtle's tank will also change the size of your turtle, because turtles will grow to fit their surroundings. If you put one turtle in a big tank all by itself, over time it will grow a lot bigger.

Also remember to let turtles grow naturally, because although we as humans can have some power over how big they get, it is not a good idea to try and speed up the growth process for your turtle!
