How far away will a cat slink off from home and die?

Yes, cats tend to leave home to go die alone, when they know that they are too old or too sick to live on. They know when the time is, it's animal instinct.

Often it's not very far away from their home, though.

Unless they get killed by accident (roadkill, etc.), then it is - of course - not something they decide for themselves.

How do you make your cat go into heat?

All female cats (or queens) that have not been spayed will come in heat (or estrus) at stages in their lives. This may happen from as young as the age of 4 months and recur seasonally (usually summer seasons with more daylight).

The cat stays in heat for normally 4-6 days and during the summer season will come in heat again every 2-3 weeks. These periods may vary widely. The cat will come out of heat and the cycles will end once the cat has mated or the season ends. After giving birth a female cat may come in heat again in as soon as 7 days although this usually happens after about 4 weeks.

What types of grass is OK for cats to eat?

Cats do not generally eat grass, so there is no right or wrong answer to your question. If there is an individual cat eating grass, your best bet would be to observe it to find out how much grass it eats.

What is the best food for a 8 week old kitten?

Answer:

Friskies. My cat is about 9 1/2 months old and he just loves to eat friskies. and my doctor said it was a good way to make my cat grow strong.

Answer:

Food such as Friskies are incredibly low quality. The dry food is packed with grains and cereals that offer no nutritional value whatsoever to a cat or kitten, and both dry and wet varieties of Friskies have a very low meat content.

The best cat foods are the ones with a very high meat content (labelled as Chicken, Turkey, Tuna, etc.) as the FIRST ingredient with no grains, wheat, or corn. Foods that are free of grains, corns, and wheat gluten are highly recommended as these are cheap "filler" that bulk up foods - but have no nutritional value for your kitten. Wet food with these specifications are much easier to find than in dry food.

Kittens and cats are strict carnivores. They get all their nutritional needs from meat. Kittens in particular, need a lot of Protein and Fat in order to grow and develop in a healthy manner. Kittens need twice as much Protein as an adult cat does, so don't be surprised if you are feeding your kitten much more than you would an adult cat. Also, kittens have small stomachs, so the best method of feeding is "little and often", as often as four to six times a day for very young kittens.

For high-quality Cat food there is: Blue Buffalo, Felidae, Weruva, California Natural, Instinct, Prairie, Natural Balance, Eagle Pack, Wellness, EVO, Bozita (the canned stuff is 90+% meat and can be bought from zooplus.co.uk), HiLife (60% meat), Feline Fayre, to name a few.

What is the the domestic cats native habitat?

Domestic cats are the decedents of their wild ancestors so their native habitat is where the ancestor lived.

How do you know all te kittens are out?

Carefully feel or look at her belly. Can you see or feel her teats? If you can, and her belly isn't swollen, then it's very probable she has recently had kittens. If her belly is swollen, then she's pregnant, and will be having her kits within a couple weeks. Try to follow her if she disappears for long periods; you may want to find the kittens.

Do Retarders keep you from skidding when the road is slippery?

No. Retarders use pressure created within the engine to lessen the speed of a vehicle.

How do you get a dog to not follow you all around the house and act like a fool when you are gone?

It depends on how old the dog is. If it is young it is very easy to mold it's mind, if it is old, it will be very difficult as it is already set in its ways. A good way to do it is to say their name before the command, and say it firmly. Dont yell at them, or sound angry, but say it like you mean business. If they do it, offer them a treat, or give them a lot of quick, positive attention. Repeat this as often as possible so that they know what to do when you say that specific command. If they don't follow, you can just repeat the command. If they're doing something bad and you catch them in the act, you can take a small spray bottle and give them a little squirt and say bad *name* or bad dog, once again, not angrily, but firmly. They don't like this, so they learn from their actions. Trust me, this is way better than punishing them by putting them in their kennel or box, and hitting is never the answer, that will just make a mean dog.

2nd Answer:

Take your dog to a local Dog Obedience class so you both can learn. Purchase a 6 foot leather lead along with a choke chain. Measure around your dog's neck and add 2 inches to get the correct size of the choke chain. Check with your Veterinarian or local Animal Shelter or nearest feed store or local newspaper for the nearest dog obedience class. This will help you and your dog immensely. Using your lead with your choke chain is what gets their attention and makes them mind but you need someone to show you all of this and be with other dogs to help socialize him or her.

WHAT CAN I GIVE MY CAT SO SHE CAN POOP?

let your cat drink green tea 20oz a day that will clean out her plumbing

ADD:

Too much caffeine can be lethal to cats. You can also try mixing canned, puréed pumpkin (2 tablespoons) into some wet food. Oily fish such as tuna is also said to work very well (rinse/dab off the excess oil before feeding it to your cat). Salmon oil is also a fantastic way of helping a cat in constipation.

Above all, make sure the cat drinks plenty of water as this helps flush out toxins and insures the cat does not get dehydrated.

What can you do about your cats bloody urine?

You need to take your cat to the vet immediately. Blood in urine usually means Cystitis (inflammation of the bladder), or some other bladder problem. This condition, much like human bladder infections, is very painful for the cat and in some cases (such as a blockage) can be life-threatening if not treated.

Cats usually develop urinary problems from stress or not drinking enough water and the urine becomes too concentrated. This can occur if the cat is fed only dry food (a cat has evolved to get moisture from its food and so have a low "thirst drive") or overly stressed.

The most important treatment, aside from vet-prescribed pain killers (and antibiotics if an infection is present), is to increase your cat's water intake. Feeding wet food instead of dry, adding a little extra water to the wet food and/or providing a water fountain to entice the cat to drink more water are very good options. Even adding "flavoured water" such as juice from canned fish to food or water will help entice a cat to drink.

Do male cats' nipples dry up and fall off?

No. A male cat's nipples do not produce milk so never "dry up" in the first place. A cat's nipples are part of the body.

How can a cat get another cat pregnant?

It depends on what you mean by "need to have a mate":

Yes, cats need to mate to become pregnant.

Female cats, however, do NOT need a "mate" (i.e. a male cat) to raise kittens. Males only mate with females. The female gives birth to the kittens and raises them.

How can a kitten pee?

Like most female animals (some cases like male animals) they squat to pee.

Why do cats walk between your legs?

After a long stint of research that never really happened, we have discovered that this is actually how cats say "Pay attention to me or else, knave! Pet/feed me or trip!" So next time your cat runs between your feet, make sure their food is full, and stroke their fur for a moment. Kicking your cat is NOT a good option.

Why is a Siamese cat colored the way they are?

variation in temperature, with cold temperature producing dark fur. Siamese cats have a temperature sensitive mutation in tyrosinase, the enzyme necessary to produce melanin. The enzyme is not active at body temperature, but is active at cooler temperatures, in the extremities. Siamese cats in cooler climates are darker than in warm countries.

Can You get Rabies from a stray cat bite that grazed the skin?

It is extremely unlikely, the virus is present in the saliva so if the cat was licking it's wound (very common) there could be some virus in the wet saliva but you would have to get that into your body and your skin (unless you too have a cut where you touched the saliva) is a good barrier...

Be very careful: untreated rabies is fatal in 99% of cases...

If you have asthma should you have a cat in the house?

You can, but reduce the allergens if possible. I've owned cats my whole life and have been allergic to them and do have asthma. Ask a doctor though if your asthma is severe.

There are many ways to reduce allergens in your home and allow for you to own a cat.

1 - Keep your cats indoors only. When they go indoor and outdoor, they clean themselves more often, shed more, and bring inside outdoor allergens. Most people are actually not allergic to cat fur, but are allergic to their saliva and dander that is in their fur.
2 - Keep your cat out of the bedroom and off the furniture. While we love our furry friends to cuddle up next to us in bed, it's hours of exposure to the allergens. Cat trees or cat condos are great alternatives to them being on your furniture.
3- Keep your cat groomed. There are anti-dander shampoos that help allergies and reduce shedding. Also brushing will help.
4 - Wash your hands after petting your cat.
5 - There are awesome meds now that are specifically designed to combat pet allergies. Ask your doctor which they would recommend you use.

What do you do if your Cat is growling at your other cat?

New born kittens hiss at you, even when their eyes are closed, because they don't know you and you scare them. It is a natural protective reflex. Older kittens hiss at you for the same reason. You scared them or startled them.

How long does a dying cat that's dying from old age live?

Are cats attracted to sand piles to urinate?

Cats pee in sand because after burying their waste, they can hide their smell from predators or other cats. Hiding this smell also helps them with hunting.

What do you need to get for when your cat is going to have kittens?

Some things that kittens need are water, obviously. They also need food. Good quality food that has lots of good meat sources and no grains/cereals help kittens grow and develop. Cat biscuits are not really a requirement but ideal for young kittens to nibble on if you are out of the house most of the day. Biscuits are often full of grains such as corn, wheat and sugars and soy which do not provide any goodness to a cat. Young kittens usually get fed three to five times a day - but when they get older they can get fed two times a day.

Also when your kitten is very small it won't want to eat chunky meat, so it is best to mash it up with a fork.

If you are buying dry food to suppliment their meat diet, make sure to get kitten biscuits, not adult cat biscuits - kitten biscuits are more suited to a kitten's small mouth.

A kitten will also need alot of love, especially on its first few nights. It will probably cry in the night if it isn't sleeping on your bed.

If you can't play with it in the day, you will want to get it a few cat toys, as kittens are very playful.

Kittens - and cats - need to get de-flead and de-wormed regularly. About once a month for a kitten. Go to your local vet for flea and worm tablets or liquid. The liquid stuff works very well, so I recommend you buying that. Sometimes you can get de-flea and de-worm liquid in one which is very easy. The vet will tell you how to use it.

It will also need to be neutered or spayed before 6 months old.

If you take it for a complete check-up to the vet, the vet will tell you when it needs to be neutered or spayed, unless it's already been done.

It will also tell you everything about the de-flea/worming and anything else you need to know. It may be healthier for young kittens to have the powder de-flea stuff instead of the liquid as it isn't so poisonous and won't get into your kittens bloodstream.

Good luck with your new kitten!
