They are marking their territory. They either rub the side of their mouth on something or spray. They give off scent from their mouths by glands that is inside of them. It is a type of dominance and territorial situation.

I have two theories 1 There is a very high pitched noise that upsets them. 2 That tail is a very tempting target (especially for kids) and the cat has learnt that if it does not want it's tail being sucked into the vacuum cleaners hose it had better make itself scarce quickly.

Not at all. Some cheaper cans may not be as nutritious as mid priced ones and may need supplimenting or substituting. 'Designer' brands are likely to be no more nutritious than mid priced ones. It is more important to match the food to the lifestyle and age of the cat. Cats that need special diets should have the food recommended by their veterinarian.

Your cat may like the flavor of the treats better than the flavor of the food. I suggest mixing cat treats in with the food or otherwise buying your cat food in the same type of flavor as your cats favorite treats.

Cats spray to mark their territory, one way to get them to stop spraying is to spay or neuter it. scrub with a hard bristle brush and a bucket of ammonia and water. let it air dry a bit and get some moth balls, crush them in a bag and sprinkle in the area. don't use more than one box of moth balls in one small area or your house will have a strong smell of moth balls

I think the reason they do this is because, when they were a kitten, they used to massage their mother to help her milk flow better. This was probably a happy time for them, when their mother used to clean them and feed them, so when they are happy they may naturally do the same thing to your lap (or the carpet :/) just like humans sometimes sleep in a foetal position :)

Talk soothingly and pet it gently being careful not to agravate its injured area.

Of course. Imagine yourself eating a piece of stale food or something. Cats shouldn't - by rights - eat decying food unless they are starving. Dry food goes stale quickly - not just in the bowl (be sure to change the food every day) but in the packaging, too. Bacteria can grow and multiply in the kibble which can - and has - cause serious health issues to cats.

If it's a well fed and healthy cat, it should turn it's nose up at the decaying and stale food. Be sure that your cat gets fresh food; don't risk your cat getting ill!

I had just bought some dry food last week and I lost my older cat of 19 a few days after I had opened the food and I am now noticing my other cat who is 5 doing the same thing as my 19 yr old did before he died. I have since stopped giving him the food and have already noticed a improvement in his health.

They like to pass close to you and brush you with their tails--and many cats even like their tails pulled gently as they pass by. I do not know why this is so, but my cats always return to have me pull their tails. I let them determine how hard to pull--I just provide some tension for the cat to pull against. They come back over and over again. Those who say cats do not like their tails pulled are probably talking about indiscriminate yanking, the kind of thing kids (and mean adults) do just because they can. The key here is to let the cat be in charge. You just provide the tension and allow the tail to slip through your hands. I think it probably stretches some muscles and tissues and gives a pleasant feeling, like being scratched.

Try to introduce them to each other early in age. Or introduce them slowly, dont do everything at once. A good idea would be to let them got used to the other, put the dog's crate near the cat's sleeping area. the cat wont be afraid because it might know that the dog cant get to it because of the crate so the cat would relax and accept that the dog is there. After the two are sued to the other try putting them in the same room together with food, water, toys, and treats. Keep them under supervision so things dont get out of control. Then just go from there.

It is well known that cats have their "crazy half-hour" or "cat crazies" where they will hurtle around the house for no apparent reason - and then suddenly stop as soon as it began. This is really very much akin to a small child; children will often run around like mad just to release all that pent-up energy, and it is very likely cats, especially kittens, do the same for the exact same reasons: To release pent-up energy and above all - to have fun! All cats can swim. Some are more popular for it because breeders expect it from the breed. The Turkish Van is the most popular for swimming, but the others are popular too.

== == Some of my cats get ticks. I usually find them on my long-haired gray cat before they attach themselves to the cat. I have never seen them on my short-haired gray cat though. I've wondered about that. I suppose it's possible that some cats have less of an attraction to ticks than others. It is probably some difference in their blood--don't you think? The ticks love my two long-haired cats, while they seem to have less interest in my two short-haired cats. That is not true with the fleas! The fleas love them all equally well!

---- Cats, as a general rule, who live indoors whether long haired or short do not get ticks. That is not because of physiology, it is simply because of the lack of ticks in most homes! Now as to cats who live outdoors or go outdoors. Short haired cats such as the bengal, almost never get ticks. This is because of the fact ticks prefer to bury themselves which they are unable to do with short haired cats. It is also due to the fact that all breeds of cats are extreme cleaners and lick themselves constantly. As soon as a tick begins to move, the cat will be drawn to the movement and will either eat the tick or chew it drop it. If a tick was able to latch, the short haired cats will within a short time remove it, hence the fact ticks are seldom seen are a short haired cat. Long haired cats on the other hand struggle with the same tick issues as dogs. Due to the length and thickness of their hair, they are sometimes unable to locate or feel the tick and it will latch. But at the same time, these cats will not suffer from excessive ticks due to their constant cleaning. It is seldom to find a tick on any cat on easily reached areas such as the stomach, back, rectum, genetalia, etc as they will despose of the tick the moment they locate it. Regardless of what type of animal you have or breed, it is the humane and safe practice to keep your animal on a anti flea and tick medication. Ticks and fleas are not only uncomfortable to your animal, they can also cause illness or even death. Fleas are the leading cause of heartworms and ticks can carry multiple diseases that can cause permanent injury to your animal or even death! Consult with your local vet as to what is the best anti flea and tick regiment for your animal!!

The dog has the best sense of smell.

You have to take over, feeding them and providing a home if they are homeless. The pleasure you and your family will get from watching them play together will be more than adequate payment for your care and concern.

Generally, if your cat is frightened of you, it's best to leave it alone. Attempting to chase the cat will simply make it more anxious and likely to claw or bite if you catch it.

You can encourage the cat to be less frightened by remaining still when it's around, so that you do not appear threatening, and speaking to it in a calm, soothing voice. Sometimes offering treats helps, but take care not to overfeed the cat, and you may have to place the treat on the ground and back away before the cat will come out to eat it.

After a time, the cat will learn that you do not mean it harm, and will be more willing to let you approach it.
