How do you change the rear main seal on a 283?
The oil pan has to come off for this. Remove the oil pan. then remove the oil pump and pump drive rod. Remove the rear main cap. You will have to use a screwdriver or something to push the seal through enough to pull it the rest of the way out with pliers... Be careful not to scratch the crankshaft. Lube the new seal with oil and work it in to the block. On the cap itself, pull off the old one and slide on the new one. This takes care and patience because the half that goes into the block will most likely NOT move very easily! I't NOT a fun or easy job, which is why people usually don't replace them unless they have then engine out of the car AND the crankshaft removed.

undo top bolts on the shock and then undo the bottom bolts and remove, just reverse installing. Make sure you support the A-arms and/or axle when changing the shocks. The shocks themselves are used to limit the suspension travel.

Yes... Sort of anyway. The Monte Carlo uses a 4 door Chevelle frame even though the Monte Carlo is a 2 door car. The 4 door frame is longer than the 2 door Chevelle frame. and the wheelbase is 4 inches longer. So if you have a Monte Carlo, a 4 door Chevelle frame will work. If you have a 4 door Chevelle, a Monte Carlo frame will work. If you have a 2 door Chevelle, then you will need to use a frame from ANY 2 door GM A body except for the Monte Carlo.... The Tempest/Lemans/GTO, Cutlass, Skylark, and Chevelle all used the same frames and are completely interchangeable.

Install distributor with rotor pointing at number one plug on cap. May have to use long screwdriver in hole to line up oil pump to distributor.

Are Chevelle ss rims and regal rims the same?
No, but they are close. The spokes are slightly different. The center caps are different. Regal rims are usually chrome plated and charcoal gray or black. Chevelle SS wheels are painted argent and charcoal gray. Regal rims usually don't have trim rings and Chevelle SS wheels do. Not huge differences, but you can easily tell the difference even when they are installed on the car. Chevy only used the magnum 500 style SS wheels in 1969 and 1970. They DID use them on Novas, Camaros, and Chevelles though.
