It'll leak pretty bad without gaskets. I soak the gaskets overnight in a pan of water before installing. Seems to help.

How to Check vacuumm on a 350 Chevy?

You need a vacuum gage, hook it to a vacuum port that has constant vacuum. It should have about 19 to 25 inches of vacuum at idle for a stock engine if the timing is set correctly. Now quickly snap the throttle wide open the gage should drop to about 5 then back to where it was. You can also set the timing by adjusting the distributor so you get highest vacuum reading.

Will a tachometergauges work from a 1987 Monte Carlo dash unit in a 1986 El Camino through the printed circuit via wire harness. If not should I install a wire to run the tachometer?

I'm trying to install a factory tach my self. the guage cluster harness has a connector for the tach but I'll have to find the other end. this much I know there is a tach filter that connects to the distributer the other end attaches to the tach. try www.elcaminocentral.com they have a lot of good info on the process & yes it looks like you may need to run a wire from the distributer to the tach.

What makes a 1972 Chevy SS El Camino a true SS?

What makes it a true SS is that it came from the factory as an SS. Beware of a clone. Many a standard El Camino has been turned into an SS and sold as a authentic one. The VIN # will tell you if this one is for real. The SS package was only available on the Custom Pickup and included a special instrumentation panel with a black steering wheel and column and an "SS" hub emblem. It also included 15x7 inch sport wheels, F60x15 white-lettered bias ply tires, a sports-type remote control outside body colored rearview mirror, power disc brakes, and high output battery. Interestingly, only the LS5 carried external engine ID; they carried "SS 454" badges. All others only said "SS." So beware of fakes.

Where is the fuse panel on a 76 El Camino?
