Chevy El Camino

the 1979 el camino shares the frame with the 79 Malibu wagon and Malibu classic.I believe you can also use the 80 to 87 frame under the 79, but you cannot use the 78 frame under a 79 as it is a few inches longer. this is because Chevy used the Impala frame through 78 and then in 79 they switched to the Malibu frame.

It is with a station wagon for sure. El Caminos are actually modified Chevelle station wagons with the roof removed believe it or not. The chrome trim around the rear window and bed are actually there to hide where the roof was removed. the panel at the front of the bottom of the bed covers the rear leg well. While it SHOULD work, I can't promise you they are actually the same. Knowing GM's love for interchangeability, they most likely are.

they sell engine mounts that will put any LS 4.8 -6.2 into your car, the only thing is hood clearance and what you really want to do. 6.0 is your best bet if you are going to build up the engine (parts are more available due to the bore size), bu they all fit and there are a lot of aftermarket adaptations for them. Exhaust manifolds are usually made from cast iron, and are big, bulky, and not designed for optimum flow. Headers are normally tube steel with a separate tube from each exhaust port to a common collector, this arrangement helps with flow, and scavenging, thus helping the engine to produce more power.

It was not a car pickup in the same vane as the Chevrolet El Camino, and had no rear bed. It was instead a 2 seater car that was never put into production. Chevrolet also used the El Camino name on a true pickup in 1959.

There is, as far as I am concerned, anyway, only one blower co. GMC. The 471, 571, and 671. The rest are pretty much just for show.

First off remove the steering wheel and column. This makes for extra space you are sure to need.

Then start removing all screws from around the instrument cluster. there are quite a few all around the dash and some underneath the dash.

Don't forget to remove the ashtray (69 for sure) as there are two screws just above the ashtray that need to be removed too.

After you have unscrewed all screws, carefully wiggle the instrument panel clear of the dash. Be carefull not to break anything and disconnect the air hoses that run from behind the instrument panel.

then slowly remove the instrument panel and make sure to write down exactly which plug plugs into which part of the instruments.

After that you can access the screws behind the instrument panel to remove the dash pad and so on.

or in my case (85 el camino)there are two flashers behind the brake release under the dash,not down by the fuse box.

I just replaced the blower motor fan switch on my 70 El Camino. I believe it would be the same procedure for a 72.

Remove the dash cover ( 7 screws including two inside the glove box). The dash cover has clips near the windshield. Once the screws are removed, slide the dash cover away from the windshield and over the steering wheel. If you have a column shifter, make sure it is pulled down below the steering wheel. The fan switch is now accessible although a little tight if you have large hands.

There are 2 quarter inch screws holding the switch in place. Loosen the screws with a wrench. Sit in the middle of the car and reach down with your left hand to remove the screws the rest of the way. Make sure you don't drop the screws! Take your time! Pull the switch out of the slot and up to access and remove the connectors. Installation of the new switch is the reverse of removal.

You must have patience! It took me a couple of hours and it went smoothly. The difficulty is starting the screws to secure the new switch. Although you can see where they go with a mirror, you will have to do it by feel. Once you get the screws started, your home free!

Measure across the rear frame rails and with that measurement go to a home/auto center and look at the receiver hitches. A receiver hitch mounts to the frame and is very strong.They are not listed for your truck but you can adapt one to fit. Keep in mind any obstacles under your vehicle (spare tire?); you may need to add spacers etc. Once a receiver hitch is in place ( four bolts) you can add a drop/raise tonque to achieve the exact height you need to tow your trailer level.
