No, that is one hell of a pervert father If the father is a single parent, he should be teaching the child to use a washcloth. The child can then wash herself.

Why do kids use the restroom on themselves?

Because either they are small and they don't know how to use the toilet, or they are mental.

There are lots of other reasons why kids might go in their pants. - They have to go really bad and can't hold it, because there's no bathroom around, or they can't get to the bathroom in time, or they ask to go but aren't allowed to

- They're really into what they're doing and don't want to stop, and overestimate how long they can hold it until it's too late

- Someone tickles them or makes them laugh really hard or startles them or frightens them or gives them a jolt when they have to go, and that makes them lose control

- They have some condition that delays toilet training or makes them incontinent, such as Autism, Spina Bifida, or physical injury

- They're put in diapers or pull-ups "in case of an accident" and decide to go in them on purpose because it's easier and they know their pants won't get wet

What is Anticipatory postural control?

This term is used by occupational therapists (among others) to describe learned, automatic reactions that occur in children; these reactions then persist into adulthood. Anticipatory postural control comprises a set of strategies of postural adjustment that an individual uses to prepare for specific voluntary movements (such as catching a ball). These adjustments can be observed in advance of arm and hand movements or whole body movements. The effect is to create a stable postural base on which the intended movement can take place. Infants as young as 10 months have demonstrated these responses. For further information I suggest you refer to Occupational Therapy for Children, Third edition, by Jane Case-Smith et. al. I obtained most of this info from page 254.

Where did the saying once a man twice a child come from?

  • This also should include women. ONCE A MAN TWICE A CHILD means we are born as children, come into adulthood and man leads a hopefully good and strong life and works hard, but, old age sneaks up and before death the man becomes a child again (either in a nursing home where he is cared for like a baby) or loses his place in the ranks of society. Thus "twice a child."
  • That is not a Biblical expression, it is simply an old worldly phrase.
  • Perhaps you are already aware of this and are asking for the origin prior to Shakespeare, but the phrase "an old man is twice a child" is actually from Hamlet.
  • It is not original to Hamlet, however: One of the Christian 'church fathers,' Clement of Alexandria, writing around 200AD on the subject of plagiarism, writes this:

Theopompus [c. 350BC] having written:-"Twice children are old men in very truth; " And before him Sophocles [c. 450BC] in Peleus:- "Peleus, the son of Aeacus, I, sole housekeeper, Guide, old as he is now, and train again, For the aged man is once again a child,"- Antipho the orator [c. 430BC] says, "For the nursing of the old is like the nursing of children." Also the philosopher Plato [c. 400BC] says, "The old man then, as seems, will be twice a child.

(from the Stromata, or Miscellanies, Book VI, Chapter II)

It is also quoted in the Jewish Midrash "Genesis Rabbah" (pg. 62) which would be dated somewhere around 500AD; it appears to be a reference to Lot, as it's referring to his descendants, the Ammonites and Moabites, but is contained in a larger section of commentary on Gen. 14.

At what age do babies point?

Pointing babiesBabies should point by 12 months. Some do it early, others later. If your baby has not pointed by 14 months, ask your pediatrician. Don't be worried, but not pointing by fourteen months of age is one of the 3 hallmark behaviors in detecting autism.

More input from Wiki s contributors:

  • My little guy just started to point and he is 10.5 months.
  • My baby started pointing @ about 10 months. Give it some time or ask your doctor.

Based on what I learned from my Life Span & Development Class, Piaget believed that children learn about themselves as well as their environment from birth to about 2 years of age. It is anywhere between Piaget's Sensorimotor and Pre-operational stage. During these stages, which occur in early infancy, the child begins to learn and understand that he is separate from his environment; such as, his parents continue to exist even though they may be out of sight or reach. During the pre-operational stage (infant-7 years of age), children begin to use natural words, body outlines, and equipment which gives him an active role in learning. Hence, your child still has time to learn how to point. Speak to a doctor if it worries and hopefully, they can give you the reassurance that you need.

How do you know if your newborn is hearing okay?

When a baby is newborn they will often startle. That's how you now they can hear ok. Does your baby startle? As they get a little older, they should start responding to your voice.

Usually when the child is born, the hospital will do a newborn hearing test. They usually write that on your discharge papers, it will say (newborn hearing test). And it will say : PASS or Needs further screening.

If you would like to do your own test, get something crinkly, and have it make a sound, out of the child's line of vision. If he/she doesn't acknowledge the sound, see a doctor.

The Baby begins to hear their surrounding from the time they were in the womb. They can hear the Mother's heartbeat and external voices, such as his family members. Once the baby is born, the begin to exercise one of eight reflexes, such as Babinksi, Moro, Palmar, etc. During the Moro Reflex, the infant begins to respond to unexpected loud noise by startling if the infant hears a bark or the sound of the vacuum cleaner. They are four distinct ways to find out if your newborn is able to hear normally; they startle, spread out their arms, un-spreading of arms, and most importantly crying. Pay attention to how closely your baby listens when you are talking to them in a calm and soothing voice.

Importance of primary health care?

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but there are three types of health promotion: Primary deals with keeping people from getting disease or injury such as offering free condoms or increasing traffic control near schools. Other examples are offering education on good nutrition and keeping water sources clean. Here we assume no one has the problem and we aim to keep it that way. Secondary health promotion refers to trying to keep the diseased population from spreading. AIDs or diabetic testing to know who has the disease is a good example. Here we assume some people have the problem and we want to find out who so we can try to control it. Tertiary health occurs in helping a person who has a disease or injury to minimize the problems for the individual and to teach them ways to protect others if necessary. Here we know who has the disease and we try to help the patient deal with it.

What are signs of Asperger's syndrome in 3 year olds?

The related question "What are signs of Asperger's Syndrome?" has a list of characteristics associated with Asperger's Syndrome - many of which are also associated with autism. It is often easier to diagnose autism at age 3 than Asperger's Syndrome at age 3, but the conditions have many traits in common. The related question also includes some traits that are more often seen in children than adults, but many traits can be seen to one extent or another in both children and adults.

At the age of three, atypical language use, social interaction, and play could be noticeable. Unusual or avoidant eye contact could have been apparent before age three. Sensory issues, such as oversensitivity or undersensitivity to touch or sounds, could have been an issue since the child was born. A preference for routine, such as the same food, same drinking glass, same chair, same play area, could become more noticeable as the child ages and voices his or her preferences (or distress over the change). You also might notice repetitive behaviors.
