What is a synonym for cilantro?

User Avatar
I cheated and looked this up on Answers.com. They show this as being another name for coriander. They gave the following information for cilantro: "1) Old World herb with aromatic leaves and seed resembling parsley." Other names for this: coriander, coriandrum sativum. "2) Parsley-like herb used as seasoning or garnish." Other names: coriander, Chinese parsley. I use Answers.com at least once during every Internet session. They are very handy as my dictionary while I am doing almost anything on the computer. When I am reading things from the Internet, I have to look up words and people and places. When I need to know the definition, they've got it! It's free of charge, and very handy. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who uses the computer!

How much does 2 tablespoons of cilantro weight?

User Avatar
As in most of the foods you use in a kitchen, this question doesn't have an answer - sort of. The weight all depends on how you have packed the tablespoons, whether or not it's whole leaf or chopped, even different bunches of cilantro will have different water weights. Everyone who weighs their tablespoon of herbs will get a different answer...

Why does cilantro turn red?

User Avatar
http://www.richters.com/newdisplay.cgi?page=./QandA/Growing/20020705-4.html&cart_id=7899645.15169 "Cilantro, or the immature plant of coriander is a short lived plant and should really be resown every two weeks, because the old plants will bolt to seed and die. This happens much faster at temperatures above 15 degrees Celsius or 60 degrees Fahrenheit. When the plant is growing in full sun the leaves will turn reddish as they mature, but this leaves them perfectly edible. When you harvest a leaf, cut it off at its point of attachment to the main stem. Once the leaf turns dry and brown, it will not have any appreciable flavour and should not be used for cooking. "

Does cilantro grow back once cut?

User Avatar
Yes, if you just cut it, rather than pull it up. It is in the parsley family and grows like grass. Of course, you need to be growing it in the proper climate zone for it to survive. If you are, then you should have no problems cutting it and it growing back.
