How might the cold war have proceeded if the US had been economically and physically damaged in World War 2?

Economics & physical damage is and was irrelevant to the cold war (other than going "bankrupt" which is what happened to the Soviets thus ending the cold war in 1990). The cold war was created by the atomic bomb.

Why was the whole world was involved in the cold war?

Because the Cold War was between the two greatest global superpowers: USSR and USA, many other countries found themselves under their influence.

For example, during Stalin's sweep of Eastern Europe so as to create a "Soviet sphere of influence", Albania, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, East Germany, Bulgaria and the Baltic States became Communist, and were affected by the changes the USSR implemented.

Cuba got involved in the early '60s because Castro (a Communist revolutionary) became president, and formed an alliance with USSR that led to the Cuban Missile Crisis- and subsequently almost led to the USSR and USA almost blowing each other up, which would obviously capture world attention.

China also turned Communist in the late 1940s thanks to the lasting influence of the Russian Revolution. And let's not forget Vietnam, half of which became Communist, forcing the French to start fighting with the North Vietnamese, and then consequently the USA.

The Suez Crisis in Israel/Palestine was happening in the 1950s during the Cold War, and because the Allies were attending to that, Hungary was crushed by Soviet forces after the country attempted to break away from the Warsaw Pact. So it all really comes down to three factors:

1. The sheer length of time this war lasted for (over 50 years)

2. All the "sub-wars" that came about within the Cold War

3. The near-nuclear level things got to, which would have meant the end of the world.

Although...it's not accurate to say that the "whole world" was involved in the Cold War. Look at most neutral countries: Australia, Scandinavia, Canada, Brazil, most of Africa, India etc.

Is it a communist country if it is rulled by the military?

technically, a communist country would be stateless, and as such it can not be ruled by a military group.

What are three Eastern Bloc nations as mentioned in lesson 9?

What are the reasons for heightened global tensions after the end of World War 2?

The USA and USSR, now Russia, developed Nuclear weapons and threatened to destroy each other.

What nuclear bombs were used in the Cold War?

No bombs were actually used during the Cold War. That was why it was not a hot war.

How many men died in the cold war?

The cold war itself was just that - a cold war. No men died. The two competing super powers, Soviet Union, and the United States, had nuclear weapons. Neither of them fought directly to avoid destroying the Earth. Instead they fought through proxy wars. Or wars were either side would support one side and then the reverse. These two proxy wars were the Vietnam war and the Korean War. 50,000 men died in the Vietnam War and 33,000 died in the Korean war.

What was the importance of disarmament during the Cold war?

Disarmament prevented the world's two major super-powers during the Cold War- the United States and the Soviet Union- from blowing each other up with nuclear weapons of mass destruction! As each country decreased its open hostilities and funding into warfare, tensions eventually subsided to prevent full-scale war.

What was the US policy known as containment?

The containment policy was that the US would fight against any attempt by existing communist countries to take over other countries and add them to the Soviet bloc. This was the reason for the Korean War (in which the North Korean effort to take over South Korea was successfully prevented) and the Vietnam War (in which the North Vietnamese effort to take over South Vietnam succeeded despite US efforts at containment).

Was East Germany a communist country in the cold war?

Yes. East Germany was separated from West Germany by the Berlin Wall during the era of communism there. East Germany was part of the Soviet Communist Bloc and West Germany was the non-communist portion.

How did the loss of china contribute to US not allowing South Korea to become communist?

How did the loss of which China? Red China to the communists in 1949; or Nationalist China escaping to Taiwan during the same time frame?

Secondly, neither "China" incident contributed to the Korean War...North Korea INVADED South Korea, the US simply reacted to it.

Considering American political purposes and strategic priorities in the Cold War was the Truman administrations intervention in the war in Korea a wise decision?

Korea was a strategic priority: the Soviets were involved. Of course it was a wise decision; Truman succeeded in stopping the Reds. Today the Republic of South Korea is a highly successful member of the global free market; thanks to Truman's courage in meeting the communist threat head on!
