Why is it not advisable to switch of a system unit using the power button?

Using a power switch or forcing a power off video physical means means you're shutting down a system that the OS might not be prepared for. Meaning it may not have done it's clean up, it might leave temp files in place, half written, hard drive heads don't park, devices do not power down correctly.

It can cause all manner of issues. Most modern OS's will be able repair that sort of stuff but not always. It's always a last resort.

Why did you go from 2 gigabytes to 1.99 gigabytes if they equal 1000 megabytes?

The definition of a Gigabyte is 1,024 megabytes. However, hard drive manufactures round this off to 1,000 megabytes. This is why a hard drive "shrinks" from, say a reported 2GB to 1.99 or less.

Usually clumped together as firewalls. Devices like them are IPS - Intrusion protection system. IDS - Intrusion detection system.

What is the function of irDA port?

It is simply another way of networking using infrared technology, similar to how a remote control for the TV transfers information to your digital box. It can connect to any kind of peripheral that supports IRDA such as a printer or another computer that has IRDA capability. It is limited in distance and by the angle that separates the 2 devices. Just like a TV remote it can't go through walls or may be less effective at long distances. It is simply a wireless way of transmitting data short distances, at slower speeds and can be thought of as just another port for connecting peripherals to a computer.

What exactly does RAM do you know its random access memory and its about the computer speed but how?

Think of a computer as a person who's doing paperwork on a desk. Now, increasing memory increases the size of the person's "desk", or the total working space of your computer. It doesn't make the person (or processor) actually working faster, but it does give it a bit of relief if there are a lot of papers (or running applications)

The size of the memory itself does not really change the speed of the computer unless demanding applications use it all up, at which point the rest of the memory is taken from the hard-drive, which can impact performance since hard-drive are usually very slower than RAM.

Now, the speed or clock of RAM does have an effect on processor speed, as it determines how fast can the CPU transfer data back and forth to the memory.

If the RAM is slower than the rate recommended for a given CPU and motherboard, it will very likely impact performance, as the RAM will not be able to keep up with the CPU, and that'll cause slowdowns.

What Location of each of the Front panel connectors on a computer?

Front panel connectors are for easy access and they are located on either front or side line of cabinet. All these connectors are connected to a location on motherboard. There are option to connect multiple pins (Led ,HDD,Power,Reset,USB ,Audio, etc ) some also give a blue connector to have a USB 3.0 on front. All these can be located in device manager .

What does the Power Supply power?

A power supply does not create power or energy. This would be in violation of the Law of Conservation of Energy.

Rather, a power supply changes the form of an available source of power or electrical energy into a form that is acceptable for use by electrical or electronic equipment.

The input form is electrical energy defined by voltage or current or power, with a given impedance level, and frequency. The output form from the power supply is a different voltage or current or power, with a different impedance level, and possible a different frequency. Another possible is for the input and output to be of the same form but electrically isolated from each other for safety and performance concerns.

Where can I buy a powered USB hub online?

You can buy powered USB hubs online at websites such as Amazon, eBay, Tmart, CellPhoneShop, and Shop411. You can also find them on the websites for major retail stores such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Walmart.

Is it possible to have hybrid mother boards and chipsets say i want AMD processor and Intel chipset?

In the older days (pre-1998), this was not only possible, but quite common. The AMD K6 processor was engineered to work and fit on the same boards as Pentiums. However, their products have since diversified, and the chipsets use different and incompatible instructions, and the processors used totally different sockets.

How does series circuit work in everyday use?

Just about everything you use daily works on a series circuit. The one you're

probably most familiar with and use immediately every day is a light.

The most common everyday series circuits are the electrical circuits found in homes

and vehicles, with the difference being the type of voltage used in each one. Homes

use AC (Alternating Current) Voltage, while vehicles use DC (Direct Current) Voltage

from a 12-volt battery.

Another opinion: No, no, no!

A light and its switch comprise essentially the only series circuit in your home.

Everything else in your home is in parallel. In fact, every outlet in your home

is in parallel with every other outlet, and also in parallel with every outlet in

every home near yours that's powered from the same pole transformer.

How do you deactivate XP on your old computer to use the OS on a new computer?

Did your old computer have XP when you got it, or did you buy XP as an upgrade? If the former, you're kind of out of luck, friend. If the latter, just do the same as you did to upgrade.

Who invented dial-up?

Data transmission over telephone lines has been around since the 50s, where it was used mainly for military defense systems. The first commercial dial-up modem was created by AT&T in 1962. I'm not sure what the first "home version" of the modem was, but it was probably the Hayes SmartModem.

Can you get info off computer with failed power supply?

Yes, as long as the rest of the computer is still intact (eg. motherboard, hard drive etc.) You can either: Get a new power supply for the computer and everything should work as normal (power up and everything) Take out the hard drive and put it into another computer to recover the data (there are many ways of doing this, try googling it - that should help.
