Mapping function between cache lines and main memory block?
I didn't quite understand your question but I'll answer you anyways :P..
It's known that the main memory is much larger that the cache memory , and we need to transfer a block of instructions to the cache memory to be frequently used by the processor to improve performance and reduce time spent in fetching instructions or data ( dealing with cache memory is much faster than RAM ). for example lets say that a main memory has a 128 data blocks and you need to place them in the cache memory which consists of 32 data blocks? then you have to have sort of technique to place them or MAPPING FUNCTION. And there are plenty of 'em (four mapping techniques as far as i know) i will just mention them without getting into details:
Direct mapping , fully-associative, set-associative and n-way set associative.

---- In Linux: After MUCH frustration, digging, trial-and-error, I have answered a related question.
My problem was that I could not delete or resize two "unallocated partitions on my hard drive. All the options (unmount, resize, delete, etc.) were grayed out. I could not unmount them because they were in use.
The answer was to download the GParted LIVE CD from: http://gparted.sourceforge.net.
I simply inserted the GParted LIVE CD, rebooted, and -- voila! -- I could move, resize, and delete all my partitions at will! IMHO, the GParted utility is much easier to use then Partition Magic, and best of all, it is FREE!
I hope this post can help others with a similar problem.

Yes you can but you need reflash to firmware that allows you to do that like DD-WRT. Then follow the wiki to set it up as a repeater. Only the 2nd router needs this and the router has to to be on the list of ones that will take a reflash. (don't worry, its a big list) If you don't want to do the flash yourself eBay has them all done. (Just search for DD-WRT) Or Buffalo has a few models that ship with it installed new

I'm not sure what you mean by interchangeable, but if you mean can you take one laptop hard drive and put into another the answer would most likely be yes. Assuming they are both based upon the same board communication function. You can't interchange a sata HD with IDE. If they are both Sata or IDE then there is no problem. You can probably tell if they are sata or ide by going into the computers bios. (Settings function before your computer boots.) if you have windows xp on your old computer just use remote desktop... then you dont have to spend any money...
(there is alot more to servers than just remote desktop)

Format the HD in your comp
Install the new server OS
Download and install new drivers, might have to buy a few new parts because some parts werent designed to be used in servers. No big deal, can get whatever you need at newegg.com or your local PCWorld.
After about 2 - 3 hours of work you can enjoy your new server... :)
