What is difference between input devices and output devices?

Input devices are all devices (appliances) which provide data to the computer. These include CD drives, microphones, mouse, keyboard and more.

Output devices are all devices which provide data to the user or another computer. These could be monitor or printer.

There are hybrid devices which can both be used for input and output, e.g. network links or CD burners.

What are the Advantages and disadvantages of point to point topology?

the advantage of information points:

  • the information points allow you to find where you need to go. e.g. tourists sites, view points, ect.
  • it takes less time to know where you are going, within seconds you know where you need to go
  • many of these points are scattered all over therefore easy access

the disadvantage of information points:

  • it might be closed on the day you go to it.
  • some companies may not be able to afford them as they do cost alot.

How do you convert Mini Digital Video cassette into DVD or computer?

You can do this yourself with your camcorder and a firewire cable on your computer or you can send the tape to a video transfer service like StashSpace.Com and have it converted for you (they charge $6.95 per tape).

To do it yourself you need to import the video from the tape into a video capture software like iMovie, winodws movie maker, or StashSpace.Com's StashBox. Just connect a Firewire cable between the video source and the computer. You can edit the material in iMovie if needed. Then, from the Share menu, send the video to the Media Browser. You can then load the video into iDVD and create a stylish DVD. Full instructions for each of these stages are available from the Help menu in iMovie.

Will a PCIE2.0 card work on a PCIE3.0 motherboard?

PCI-E 2.0 is reverse compatible that means a motherboard having PCI-E can support a PCI-E Video Card.

What is a USB turntable used for?

A phonograph turntable that is used to convert tracks on vinyl records into a digital format such as CD audio or MP3. Software in the computer converts the PCM into the required format.

What is the main input device for most computers?

This would depend on what type of computer you are discussing...

- For a personal computer (Desktop) or a Laptop this would be a keyboard followed closely by a mouse or touchpad.

- For a tablet this would be the touch screen.

What is an input interface and how does it differ from output interface?

AN input-output interface is the piece of equipment or location at which information can be input and output from a device such as a computer. Examples of an input interfaces are: Command line, such as a DOS prompt. You manually enter in commands to achieve your results that you want. The keyboard is also part of this interface.

A GUI (graphical user interface) is an Icon based interface and is much more user friendly and easier to use. (from a novice stand point) ;-) An output interface could be a printer a screen or a speaker.

What is the difference between a wireless LAN and a wireless G card?

N is faster and has a longer range (if you live in a multi-story home or apartment it is amazing). G is, of course, cheaper. If you are wondering, don't worry about the fact that the N standard isn't finalized yet. Most devices conform to the draft standard. Any change from the current standard will be minimal at this stage in the process and will most likely only require a firmware update if the final standard does in fact change... The extra cost for wireless-N makes sense if you need the improved range due to a large home or multiple walls between the computer and the base station. If you need to transfer files between other computers or stream music within your local network (you have a media center PC and want to stream music/video) you will benefit from the faster speed of wireless-N You won't get any extra speed boost from N if you are the only computer on your network and you are relatively close to the base station. Remember, even with an 8 Meg cable modem, the bandwidth of 54Meg wireless-G is more than sufficient.

My home Computer shuts down 5 seconds after being turned on?

This can be caused by a number of things. Here are some of the most common culprits.

Environmental. Have you recently added a space heater, air conditioner, refrigerator, or other heavy-drawing appliances to the same electrical circuit? The system may not be getting enough power, modern systems often have up to 600 watt power supplies, they can be very hungry beasts. To find out if this is your problem, you can try experimenting with plugging your machine into a different household circuit via an extension cord.

Over-taxed. Have you recently added more hardware to the computer? Adding a second hard disk or optical drive, upgrading the video card, or even using some of the power hungrier USB devices can over-tax the power supply of the system and the motherboard will power itself off if it isn't getting the voltages it wants. Additionally, if this is an older system the power supply may just be giving up the ghost, and just hasn't died all the way yet.

CPU overheating. If the CPU heat sink has become un-seated from the CPU it takes about 5 or 10 seconds for the CPU to heat up enough to shut down the system. Double check that the CPU heat sink is firmly attached & that none of the brackets has come loose.

My pet theory (and to be honest im only guessing here) is that one of your fans is having problems.

Most modern motherboards have the ability to monitor the speed of the cooling fans. These systems are often set by default to refuse to stay powered on (they'll shut off after a few seconds) if they detect that one of the fans is not spinning.

Most likely one of the fans in your computer has gotten stuck. Open up the machine and clean them.

Also, if one of these fans comes unplugged, the motherboard will get a 0 RPM reading & will shut itself off. If you've been monkeying around in there, or the machine was just recently assembled, make sure everything got plugged in right.

If you just built the system. It may have hookups for case fans. These hookups may be by default configured to shut the machine down if they dont detect a spinning fan. You may or may not be actually using these hookups for your case fans (you might not even have case fans) and so you would need to go into the BIOS menu and disable case fan monitoring.

What are reasons to assemble the computer by your own?

1) The overall cost of the Computer is greatly reduced

2) You do not have to deal with a middle man to get replacement parts

3) The range of parts available is huge, and customisation is down to you to make it how you want it

What setting you can configure from the BIOS setup program?

There are many things you can configure within the CMOS setup. The exact options depend on your exact machine and the exact BIOS. You can set the time, date, what boot devices you have, the boot order, and what to do about certain errors. You might be able to disable or enable online ports, onboard devices, Plug and Play options, what USB support is offered, and more. You might have advanced options you can configure such as memory timings, bus speeds, CPU speed, the generation of PCI Express that is supported, etc. There might be a video aperture size option and/or a PCI-Express latency setting.

Is touch screen input or output?

Both. There's a touch panel that is used to feed information in to the device (input) and a screen underneath the touch panel to display stuff (output). This makes it to be both input and output.

How do you clean the fan of a computer?

Cans of compressed air or gas may be found in most stores that sell computer gear and accessories. It's best to unplug the unit and take it outside, to blow out the dust. If you've never done this before, ask a knowing friend or a tech to help.

Why is my brand new computer so slow all of a sudden?

It could be a number of things. For example, it could be:

  1. Viruses, adware and/or malware could, unknown to you, be running in the background and taking up resources that would otherwise be used by programs you choose to run
  2. You may have multiple windows open. Each window open will take up a certain amount of resources. Having too many windows open can slow down your computer
  3. You haven't got enough memory to support the program/programs you wish to run

What is the difference between a chipset motherboard and an original motherboard?

In an original motherboard, the entire product is manufactured by Intel, i.e. the circuit board and the ICs (integrated circuits) which are on it.

Whereas, when we talk of a `chip set' it means some other company, for instance Mercury or D-Link, has designed and made the circuit board but has used the chipset provided by Intel.

When we refer to a `chipset" it is a set of ICs that primarily controls the processor, memory and other main functionalities. However, the third-party company that has designed the circuit board can use other company chips for audio and other communication peripherals. The major point to note here is the design of the mainboard.

The chipset consists of two major microchips. These are known as the North bridge and the South Bridge.

The North Bridge Handles data for the AGP Port and the main memory which includes the FSB (Front side bus). Although both chips are required for the PC to work the North Bridge handles most of the very important tasks such as the connection between the CPU and main memory.

The South Bridge handles data from the PCI and ISA slots and can also have integrated components such as Audio codec's etc.
