Not sure what type of Motherboard do you and waht video are you going to use and what memory us use .. basically what wattage your system need as minuim via their manual then I would add 50% more wats to make it stepped up not to dies out quickly then finially decide what powersupply have equal or more watts to what i calculated then but best one that is most cost efcective .. with a good warrenty included.

This is a very large question. ATM is an extremely complex protocol. In general, however, it differs from other technologies in a few ways:

If by "get more GHz" you mean speed up your processor, it's a lot harder to do on a laptop. You could overclock it, but most laptops have very few options for overclocking and overheat easily due to the excess heat created. If you need a faster computer, I recommend buying a desktop (which you can actually overclock) or upgrading to a better laptop.

Some people sell USB extension cables, but these are outside the USB specification. The electrical characteristics of the cable are important. Chaining them adds too much delay, resistance and capacitance. You might get lucky, or you might not.

Almost all computers have tasks that are either ongoing or need to be done before it is shut down, thus, cutting the power to it could have negative effects on it, as compared to allowing it to communicate to these tasks that it needs them to either run or stop, and letting them do what they need to do.
