Since the modern Daschund is smaller and quite lighter than the original German equivalent, they have since been used to hunt mainly rabbit and fox, and track various game. Packs have been used to take down wild boar and even wolverines. They are genuine hunting dogs, and are excellent scent trackers.

yes, that is true, but I have a cross between a dachshund and a jack Russel terrier. He sheds quite a bit, and the hair tends to be kind of scratchy. it may not be the same for you since my dog is 75% dachshund and 25% jack Russel terrier. I would say that he sheds kind of a lot so it is a thing to think about.
