My mini doxie just had her 19th birthday October 23, 2012. As long as she's not suffering in any way, I hope to have a few more years with her. She is partially blind & can't hear well but other than that, she's fine. With this breed the spine is usually what kills them as the spine affects all their major organs. She's not arthritic, in fact, she has good muscle & bone tone. She can jump down but is fearful to do so as she has no depth perception but gone are the days of getting up stairs or on furniture.
