An Open System is a computing platform that uses Open Source softwares rather than Closed Source/Proprietary softwares.

Closed source software may charge for their software, but might not.

If a development firm releases software for free, but does not release the source code to the public, this is called "Freeware."

Proprietary software generally does not distribute their software for free, and it follows that the owners do not distribute the source code either.

An few examples of proprietary software are Microsoft Windows (Operating system), Microsoft Office (Office Software Suite), Nero (CD/DVD Burning Software), and WinRAR (Archiving Tool).

The point of an Open System is to break away from the use of software that you have to pay for. Some people also go a step further and refuse to use software that the owners do not release the source code of.

This principle is especially useful in business, where a company can save a lot of money making their employees use Free and Open Source software rather than paying licensing fees to use one product on multiple machines.

E-R modelling basically deals with Entities and their relationships to capture the overall process of the system. While Dimensional model/Muti-Dimensional Modelling deals with Dimensions (point of analysis) for decision making and not to capture the process.

It depends on the nature of the job. Supposing you are the database manager in cancer research, then you will have to organise the patient's data with respect to a particular treatment, say for example radiation treatment. It will be more like a retrospective study. Or your job might be to enter the data in tables, organise using Microsoft access or Excel and you may also have to perform simple data analysis. An ER diagram is an entity-relationship diagram they show individuals and their links to each other. An ER diagram for a hospital management system would be a flow chart showing hospital staff, equipment, patients, records and more.

Databases are used to store data also providing modification & retrieval of data in an efficient manner. Databases is used everywhere like in Railways, Airports, Schools, Hospitals, Business , Shopping Malls etc. Database helps us to manage the data efficiently and in a easy manner.

Tree Diagram

A list of date of births is raw data. If you looked through that list you could do things like find how many people were born in April or who is the oldest or who was born between the 10th and 20th of the month and so on. All of those things are information that can be got from the data. All that you can see is a list of dates of births. Nowhere in that list does it explicity say something like "There were 14 people born in April", but you could find that information by looking through the data. So data can be used to get information.

A web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc...) is the most commonly used application for viewing web pages. However, offline viewers for HTML pages that you have previously downloaded or created are also available.

A computer performs certain operations on the data. Suppose we give any input to the computer . The computer then process the data . Finally it gives the information to us as an output that is nothing but the processed data.

A query can be used to do things with the data. Mostly it is to extract information from the database, but they can also be used to delete, edit and update a database. Queries are very important and powerful aspect of a database.
