What was the primary reason nurses rather than doctors became the first anesthetists?

I think it was because in the initial phase, anesthesia was very simple. As they say, pouring some anesthetic agent over the face mask held covering the mouth and nose. Since then, anesthesia has seen many great stages of its development, hence doctors are needed to work as anesthetists. As it has become much safer, it has become complicated too. Hence superspecialities in anesthesia, like cardiac, neuro, pediatric etc. A good understanding of all medical subjects has become mandatory for being an anesthetist.

What would happen if doctors reversed Oxycontin and oxynorm suddenly?

Assuming the question is asking "What would happen if a doctor used a REVERSANT on a patient who was taking Oxycontin or Oxymorphone (or any other opiate, prescribed or illegal, including heroin)on a daily basis" then the answer would be:

If a doctor or surgeon suspects that a patient is overmedicated for some reason, be it the patient took too many of their prescribed medication or even the health care facility gave too much and the patient is now overmedicated- then they have to take certain steps to keep the patient safe. (this includes suspected illegal heroin or other street drug use)

If an OVERDOSE is suspected, and that overdose is from opiate medications, then NALTREXONE would most likely be used.

This would be considered a "reversant" because, in essence, it does the complete opposite of what the medication does chemically, and actually "zeroes out" the medication already in the system.

There are other medications that will "reverse" the effects of other types of medications and drugs, but the question is about Oxycontin.

Because patients are at different stages of intoxication when the reversant is administered, they will act differently when effects kick in (almost immediate)

If a patient was drowsy and simply a bit sleepy, they will become awakened and able to talk, walk, and go about their normal every day affairs within minutes.

If the patient was in the middle of a serious "overdose" and almost unconscious or unconscious, they will suddenly become awakened, and often times they will react in a violent way. If drug addiction is suspected, the patient will not be pleased that they were awakened. Most addicts are not "grateful" at first that a person administered a life saving reversant. They might even be physically violent because their brains are in shock from being "high" on minute, to being "sick" the next.

The reversant will , in essence, take the drug out of their body in minutes- and if the person was physically dependent on this medication- (physically dependent and addicted are two different issues- they are not the same!) then they will complain of feeling shaky, yawning, "flu like symptoms", congested, anxious, and might even vomit or feel nauseous. Most likely they won't like these symptoms, but they will be appreciative that their life was saved, and they most likely would not have been "pleased" with the state of intoxication they were in.

A person whom is addicted to the medication will also feel these symptoms, because they too are physically dependent on the medication- but they are also "addicted" to it, meaning they will do almost anything to get more- even when the drug has almost killed them- the insanity of addiction is the "getting and using and finding ways and means to get more"- and they will instantly want to go out and get more of the medication, if none is given to them in the hospital.

The symptoms progress from there- up to 4 days worth of withdrawal unless medication is used to intervene.
