My daughter just purchased new headlights for her '97 Avenger and I have the same question. The lights have a lip on the bottom that makes it appear impossible to get out without first removing the front bumper assy. If anyone has a less painful way of doing this please chime in!
I had to remove my headlights to polish them, because road dirt and debris had so scarred them, they barely put out any light. To do this, I literally loosened all the surrounding body parts, and wiggled the light assemblies out. Irrespective of that, it was a bear and a half. Good luck with it!

I wrote this question. Found a small rag jammed into the throttle body, obstructing the butterfly valve. WOW. Glad it didn't get sucked into a cylinder. And no, this was not my fault. I bought the car used and this is exactly how I found it when I yanked off the TB. Engine idles at proper speed now. A little rough at times, but I bet changing the 02 sensors will cure that.
