Won't start in damp weather 2003 dodge ram 2500 with 5.2 liter motor backfires?

Most likely you are in need of a tune up. When distributor caps and spark plug wires get old, they can leak and in wet or damp weather, the spark intended for one cylinder can jump to the wrong terminal under the cap or from one plug wire to an adjacent wire, sending spark to the wrong cylinder at the wrong time. If it won't start and it's dark, sometimes you can look under the hood and see the spark jumping around where it doesn't belong (to ground-the motor). Change the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs and you should be fine.

You are you getting no power to the starter?

Ok, in what way are you getting no power to the starter? Do you have power to the headlights? Do they dim a bunch when you try to start the vehicle? Is the starter clicking but not starting? Will the vehicle start if you jump start it? All electrical problems of this nature should start with a load test on the battery, even if it seems fairly new. If it tests good, the next thing I would check is to see if the headlights dim when you try to start it. If they dim I would check the cable connections to the battery, then have the starter tested. If they don't dim you could either have a problem with the ignition switch side of things or the starter solenoid.

I have a 1984 dodge ram van B250 with ignition that doesnt click the starter when your try turning the key to start the van Why I have tried changing the starter already and that was not the problem?

Answer

first make sure that your battery is fully charged, if it is then try using a remote starter(not the wireless thing ,the mechanics remote starter) to bypass the ignition switch and see if the starter engages that way ,if it does you know your problem is between the switch and the starter(wiring). if the starter still don't engages you may want to pull it out and bench test it. to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. if the starter motor is ok then you'll have to check your engine make sure that it is not locked up.

Answer

did u replace starter solenoid at same time have you checked the ignition switch try turning on ignition, get under car and short across wires on solenoid if starter works it is not solenoid might try starting in neutral as well, if this works it is usually a fuse, or safety switch

Answer

Obviously there is a bad connection somewhere. Go back to the basics and start testing the electrical connections. Jumper the solenoid wire to see if you can make the starter engage. Just make sure your hands are out of the way of moving parts.

I'd be suspicious of the keyswitch and the neutral safety switch but test them before you replace parts. You need to find the part that isn't working rather than just replacing parts.

check the ignition switch and check the electronic fuel pump

WHAT DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH A 94 DODGE RAM VAN. Please let me know. I get an error code 54 and 45 on the computer. 45 Is "open or short in transmission overdrive solenoid" which can be caused by the precursor engine error 54.

In most Dodges, especially my 94' Dodge Ram Van 3.9ltr, the code 54 is fuel sync related. Primarily related to a fuel, cam or crank sensor. My problem is still unresolved or confirmed by a solution so I can not provide a resolution but follow me on mySpace/TimFrentz or Facebook and I will share my final resolution with you when available.

My problem: When I turn my ignition on I have to wait several seconds for the fuel relay to click and then stop clicking. This signifies a shortage of power in the fuel pressure wiring systems. On a warm day this seams to only take seconds but on a day below 40 degrees it seems to take as long as 30 minutes and it doesn't seem to start clicking until I tap the relay or try to turn over the vehicle several times to build current or fuel pressure. What makes this issue even harder to diagnose is that the problem is also keeping the distributor from sparking. So far I have replaced the Crank Sensor, Distrbutor Cap/Rotar/Wires/Plugs, battery w/ 900crank amps, cleaned the negative contacts, checked fuses, fuel filter and pump, and changed oil/filter. I'm now researching the possibility of it being caused by an ignition system component.

*After each thing you try, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes so the computer reset's.

Let me know your progress: mySpace/TimFrentz

How do you replace the air filter for a 2003 dodge ram 2500 van?

you must remove the center console. this should entail removing 3 large screws, (a 1/2" nut driver does nicely) and opening 2 toggle clamps. lift the console, while pulling it back. this should expose the air filter housing, which is opened by rmovung i wing nut, in standard air filter fashion. Be careful in re-asembly, as this is the only barrier between the passenger and engine fumes, noise, etc.

How do you replace the fuel pump on a 1992 250 dodge van it has a 318 engine?

The Fuel Pump is part of an assembly that is in the Fuel Tank. You will need to drain most of the fuel out of the tank, disconnect the filler neck from the tank, release the straps holding the tank, being careful of the hoses and wires at the top. Disconnect those from the tank and lower the tank to the ground. Where the hoses/wires went into the tank is the top of the Fuel Pump Assembly. There will be a ring around the top. Using a hammer and a BRASS punch (Brass won't spark! Very important to get a brass punch) loosen the ring and pull off. Pull the assembly out and replace with a new fuel pump assembly. Place a new gasket on top and replace the ring, snugging it tight. Replace the tank and put a few gallons of gas back in. As long as all the hoses and wires are replaced correctly, the pump should operate again!

Where is the engine number engraved on the engine block?

It depends on the manufacture. The eight digit of the vehicle identification number will tell you the size unless it has had the engine replaced. The engine size is also stamped on the driver's side of the engine block, above the starter motor.

My 2004 Dodoge Ram 1500 drivers door won't unlock. The only way to get in the drivers door is to pull up on the handle on the inside but as soon as you let go of it it locks again. help?

I would guess the lock switch is defective. Unplug the wire going to the switch and if the problem goes away the switch is bad. It can also be a defective remote control door lock control if you have one.

How do you bypass ac compressor on a 1994 dodge ram van 150 5.2L?

Cut original and loop on engine as it goes. pull tensioner 3/4 and cut off. take it to the parts store and have them get you one that's close. part number will indicate inches and service person will ask how much more or less you need. took me 3 trips but finally got it. if you can get the vehicle there then take it. can test fit in the parking lot. bring the tensioner wrench!

How do you get a fan off a water pump on a 99 dodge ram?

You need two special tools, A 36mm wrench and a spanner to hold the pulley still. While holding pulley yo use 36mm wrench and a hammer to turn fan nut counter clockwise.

newtest3 Double check all internet imfo. One fellow suggested removing a.c. and alternator... don't. Disable battery, remove shroud, hoses, radiator, leave belt on for now. If you have trouble keeping water pump pulley stationary as you try turning fan clutch nut (to the left to loosen as it's rt. hand thread), note 4 holes in pulley, insert 1/4" bolts, 1 1/2"long, if they're not threaded all the way, it may take some effort (pry with screw driver while turning with wrench). The bolts will lock with fins on the pump's face. I used a 3lb. maul to clobber my wrench, after several hits the nut finally loosened. Now remove serpentine belt, then water pump. 7 bolts(9/16) fasten pump, draw a diagram to keep bolts with correct holes. My hardware is badly rusted, so I'am getting new bolts today. The fan clutch nut was my biggest problem (aluminum to steel) If I ever buy another new vehicle, it won't be American... unless John Deere or Case markets a product. The more I work on this van, the more parts I find "made in Mexico". Latter learned "assembled in Canada".
