You need two special tools, A 36mm wrench and a spanner to hold the pulley still. While holding pulley yo use 36mm wrench and a hammer to turn fan nut counter clockwise.

newtest3 Double check all internet imfo. One fellow suggested removing a.c. and alternator... don't. Disable battery, remove shroud, hoses, radiator, leave belt on for now. If you have trouble keeping water pump pulley stationary as you try turning fan clutch nut (to the left to loosen as it's rt. hand thread), note 4 holes in pulley, insert 1/4" bolts, 1 1/2"long, if they're not threaded all the way, it may take some effort (pry with screw driver while turning with wrench). The bolts will lock with fins on the pump's face. I used a 3lb. maul to clobber my wrench, after several hits the nut finally loosened. Now remove serpentine belt, then water pump. 7 bolts(9/16) fasten pump, draw a diagram to keep bolts with correct holes. My hardware is badly rusted, so I'am getting new bolts today. The fan clutch nut was my biggest problem (aluminum to steel) If I ever buy another new vehicle, it won't be American... unless John Deere or Case markets a product. The more I work on this van, the more parts I find "made in Mexico". Latter learned "assembled in Canada".

My 1999 Pontiac Montana would seem to "skip a beat" while driving. It then started stalling and restarting, all while driving at highway speeds. My mechanic found that an electrical cable that carried an engine sensor signal was leaning against a hot part of the engine. The cable insulation had melted or worn through, causing intermittent shorts. The shorts confused the engine computer, which then stalled the engine. He simply rerouted the cable and all was fine after that.

You need to buy the special wrench for it or make one of your own.

I did...and she dropped a driveshaft. Tow her to a trusted shop and have them check out the drivetrain. Good news is your engine should be a solid s.o.b!

i believe you had a choice there, but if it were a v-8 the likelihood of it being a 318 or a 360 is the guess, both relatively the same only the 360 is internally larger displacement, from the hood view they're the same and most parts interchange- starter,waterpump,alternators,so on.

the big one. Go to Advance Auto Parts or Autozone and rent their ball joint press kit. It'll have a socket. You'll need a 3/4" drive socket wrench (Or a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter) and a long pole to slip over the handle.

Depends what you mean by fix? What is the problem? Is there a lot of "looseness" in the steering? Does the vehicle wander and follow road ruts? Is there too much steering gearbox freeplay? You have to be more specific.

Anyone of the steering linkage ball joints can be worn out. The steering gearbox can be adjusted to have minimum free play. The shaft connecting the steering gearbox to the steer wheel can have worn spleens. It could be anything. Suggest you check the steering gear box cover bolts for tightness, and then adjust the excess freeplay out of the gearbox. If the doesn't help, then have someone shake the steering wheel left and right while you look at the steering linkages under the front end. The idler arms seem to wear out first, followed by the ball joints. If they appear tight, then there isn't much more you can check. The connection between the steering gear box and the steering column are no longer made. If that's worn, you'll just have to live with it or have a 4WD shop do a custom installation of some type of replacement.

Have you replaced the thermostat? On my 92' B250 I had to remove the Alternator and I think the A/C compressor. to properly remove and clean the housing. Also just recently I had to replace the radiator cap.

check axle bearings and if bearing is bad, do not install a quick repair kit that installs another bearing in a off set position then original spot, they will only work for a temporay time and the time frame is usaully not long, then work has to redone a the right way by replacing either the axle and/or bearing, been there and paid twice for the same repair.

Hi I dont really understand the 1951 plate but I have a Astra 1998 station wagon 2.0l that may have the same prob.There is a yellow light which looks like an engine with a z in the middle.This is between the oil and batt warning light.The car still runs fine but a bit worried when this comes on as I dont Know what it means.

Overdrive should be ran by electrical ,so check your fuses . If that's not it check wiring that runs to transmission.You will have to get under the vehicle . There is an electrical switch that shifts the trans into overdrive , that is your next step . If you have a owners manual in the glove box it should tell you which fuse runs the overdrive circuit .Hope this helps . Rick
