How do you stop your dog from marking in the house?
Male dogs are notorious for this and will think nothing of lifting their leg to the side of your couch or chair. The best thing to do is keep your dog in the kitchen or another room (even outside in the back yard if it's fenced, then let it back in either in your basement or laundry room) until you can see your vet and find out what a good spray is that you can spray on the areas your dog has peed on. Dogs will always go back to the very spot where they have peed and also if you've had a dog before this one they males can sniff a gnat's pee at 100 paces away. LOL Get that spray .. it works! Good luck Marcy Get the dog neutered. Period. It will help immensely with behavior issues such as this, and it will make him a happier pet who's less likely to become aggressive or run away. Contrary to popular belief, it will NOT make your dog fat, lethargic or wimpy. Also, you will have to thoroughly clean everywhere he has peed or he will keep hitting the same areas over again. Get a UV lamp - some companies such as KV Vet Supply sell these as Urine Detectors but I think any UV light will do.
I can't fathom why anyone of sound mind would want to make a dog fierce. If you are looking for a protection dog you should consult a highly qualifies trainer. If your are looking to create a fighting ddog keep in mind that this is illegal and cruel to all animals involved.
What effects does eucalyptus trees have on dog if consumed the bark and leaves my dog has eaten?
Absolutely not.
Never, ever feed eucalyptus to a dog. Keep all home-grown eucalyptus plants out of their reach. The plant is toxic to dogs as the chemicals can lead to vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy.
I have two beagles which pee and poop all over my back yard. We keep it cleaned up, and we have no problems. But to be sure, we water the yard as regularly as we can. Additionally we live in south Texas, where the soil is very alkaline. If anything, the acid from the urine seems to help the grass.
If you are concerned, just water the spot. Most fertilizer has urea, which is the component in urine that causes yellowing if the concentration is too high.
How can you teach your dog not to jump the fence?
I've been wrestling with this problem for several years now! I have a Shar-Pei that climbed the fence EVERY time he was let outside. We live in the country and he loves to chase the deer, racoons, squirrels, and get in the creek for a swim. He always comes back, but keeping him inside the yard has been a challenge (I don't want him hit by a car, shot by someone, etc.). I've tried everything, but the one thing that has worked so far is putting a 3-foot extension of fencing on top of the existing chain link. I used flimsy fencing on top so when he gets to that point (where the chain link ends and the flimsy fencing begins), the flimsy fencing simply falls back on top of him and he can't get over it! Don't leave him outside alone! Honestly, it's simple. If he's bored and lonely he's going to look for something to do, and that may include leaving your yard. So go outside with him. Toss a ball around for a while, or play a game of "people chasing" (don't chase him, but it's fun to let him chase you, and see if you can dodge him before he gets there). If he's outside to potty, just stand by the door and wait for him to finish, and then bring him back inside to play a game of hide and seek. I'm guessing this isn't what you were looking for, but it's the best solution for your dog. Leaving him outside alone isn't fair. He's a pack animal, and if he's cut off from his pack (YOU, his family) he will do what he feels he has to - and you can't fault him for that. try getting a shock coller(you can put different modes on it too) if the dog even gets near it it will put a shock on it so it won't go near the fence. Make the fence higher if possible! -This is from Wolfheart11 Dog-ma is right, making the fence higher will help... you get also get the invisible fence( I never used it but my friend said her dog stopped). When the dog trys to jump over the fence, it will give him a small shock! It won't hurt, but it will stop him from jumping over the fence. Every time he trys to jump, shock. All you have to do is put on the special collar and ... I think I said what was going to happen alot!!! Hope this helps! :)
Why does your dog whine and shake?
He most likely has an ear problem, possibly an infection. He could also have ear mites, a bug bite, a tick, or cheat grass in his ear. You should take him to a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment.
How old should a puppy be when you introduce collars and leashes?
I would start around 4 months with the weight of a deactivated collar and walking the perimeter. At 5 months I would train using the flags and weight of the deactivated collar, I would not turn on the collar until the puppy is 6 months old. By that time the puppy should have the regime down pat and will not test the collar more than a few times.
How do you keep your dog from digging out of the fence?
== == Well, that would depend on how the dog is getting out of the yard. Let's examine: 1. Do you have a fence? - No, then get one. Yes, refer to next question.
2. Is the dog digging under the fence? - Yes. One devious way in which I have stopped my dogs from doing the very same thing is to dig a trench underneath the fence. Place concrete blocks in the trench and fill. Most times the block will act as enough of a deterent after their claws scratch it a few times. 3. Is the dog climbing over the fence? - Yes. Get a video camera, tape this and send it to a home video show! Once you have done this, find out what your city's regulations are regarding the installation of a higher fence. If it is not possible, consider installing runners in your backyard. Clip the dog's leash to the runner when it is allowed outside for its bathroom break. Remember: It is not a good idea to leave a dog clipped to a runner unattended. Make sure the dog has been fixed. This will cut down on the "urge" to leave the yard. VERY IMPORTANT: Spend $15-20 and get the dog microchipped!!! It is an excellent way to have a lost pet returned to you.
How do you train your rabbit to walk on a leash?
First, get the puppy used to the lead and collar by gradually building up the time they have them on and giving a lot of treats and praise.
When out on a walk, if the puppy pulls do a U-turn. They will soon learn that pulling doesn't make them go forward faster but actually makes them go backwards. This method takes patience but the puppy should eventually get the message and be able to walk properly on lead.
Dingos may only be purchased in Australia, and they may not be exported. You would have to move permanently to Australia. It is not recommended that you buy one. They are a very specialised type of dog, and to own one is a commitment for life. They have needs that cannot be met by a typical dog owner.
What to do when a cat does not cover her poop in the litter box?
Take him to the vet right away. A cat that stops bowel movements could be constipated or has sustained injury. Constipation should be left no longer than 48 hours untreated, and of course, injuries are an emergency so should be looked at by a vet immediately.
Depends, but I think they can have babies. I also think you can breed any type of breed with any type of dog, just be cautious when small dogs are giving birth because they do tend to need a little extra help.
How do i make my dog defend itself with other dogs even if its younger?
Socialize them with other dogs early in life. Or train them in group classes later.
If your dog is already dog aggressive. You could hire a dog professional to help the dog get rid of it. If you want to do it yourself, when your dog becomes aggressive pull to the side with his/her leash. If he/she don't react by putting their attention to you. I would recommend when you see there body language turn (teeth showing, hair on end, looking with eyes before of nose and ears.) You would with your foot touch the dog just before the back leg. You're not kicking it you're touching it. When you have their attention get them to sit or lay down on his/her back to get them to a calm submissive state of mind.
If you want to introduce a aggressive dog show its rear to the other to smell it (I would recommend using a mussel and a professional to help).
How can you get your small dogs to go outside when it is bitterly cold outside?
Open the door and gently push the animal out. Then close the door and wait. Just remember, if it's really bitterly cold, try not to leave the animal out for more than around three minutes at the most. Then, if it doesn't work the first time, try, try again every 30 minutes or so. (Give the dog time to warm up.)
Is there something to stop a dog from chewing on wooden furniture?
Well i have never had that problem, but i heard that you can use scentless deodorant, men's. But you might want to ask a vet first. Also another way is to just train them different, encourage them to chew on something else. And remember don't punish dogs they cant understand that. But love them lots and lots. Hope this worked, and thanks for taking my advice.
Why should you walk your dog on the left side?
well, the biggest and most obvious reason is that dog loves humans. it doesnt matter if you are the dog's owner or not. They still know that for the most part, they are safe with humans. So, they walk on the left side to prtect you from the cars (if you are walking on a sidewalk). They want to be the first one to be hit if a car is about to hit you. dogs are sweet, i know
Can you train a dog to poo on toilet?
One can train a dog to use the toilet by following one of several different methods. Some ways that one can train a dog to use the toilet are: taking them to a dog trainer, utilizing dog training books, or watching dog training videos on YouTube.
What are the basic commands for a dog?
Basic obedience commands for everyday dogs? Sit, stay, drop it, lay down, heel, and down are the most common.
She lives outside where she can do her job when ever and where ever she wants. She is not housebroken.
Just because she is out and now you want to bring her in does not mean she will or will not.. potty in the house.
She is used to going out side and will give you clues she needs out. You will need to watch for the clues. Her age will be a factor as well.
Some of the clues are walking or running all over the house smelling the floor or looking for the way out. I suggest a training line on her when she is inside, this is not a leash, it is 20 foot or longer. This way she can not go into another room to do her potty. You will have the other end in your hand and be paying attention to her. If she is excited to be in( all wiggly) then take her out in five minutes she will tinkle most likely. then bring her back in. I would walk her in the front yard as this would encourage her to tinkle faster.( new smells) say the word break,in command voice, say again while she is going and again afterwards adding good girl. Good girl one can be happy excited voice. Cindy Sue
How can you prevent your dog from scratching her dog bed?
I don't know if you can stop it, but to keep her from damaging her bed put down an extra sheet or blanket. She is probably trying to make a nest, but cant because that material is attached to the dog bed.
How can you stop diareaha in your dog?
There is very little you can do at home to stop a dog's diarrhea, and much of what you can try presumes the problem is stress or a minor intestinal infection. You can try adding some canned pumpkin or beets to your dog's food (no salt added, preferrably) to add some fiber, which may help solidify your dog's stools. You can also try waiting it out a couple of days.
However, if your dog is acting otherwise ill (doesn't want to play, doesn't want to eat, etc.) or if the diarrhea doesn't resolve in a couple of days, you need to take your dog to your veterinarian for an examination.
Incidentally, you should NEVER give your dog human medications - dogs are very sensitive to human medications and you can cause a severe overdose or even death with them.
How far should you walk your dog per day?
Well i walk my dog 2 times a day, and i walk him for about a half hour or so in the day time. At night when i walk him i would say about half an hour to 45 minute's depending on the weather and the time maybe less if i let him off the leash because he runs wild, but your dogs need at least one walk a day.
How do you stop your dog from barking biting and jumping on people?
There are two kinds of growling: play growling and 'I mean it' growling. Play growling can safely be ignored. 'I mean it' growling should be taken seriously and evaluated by an expert. Play growling naturally occurs during play. The whole rest of the dog's body is expressing playfulness. Play growling uses shorter syllables and the pitch goes up and down rapidly. It's almost as if the pup is trying to talk. I think they sound like crusty old pirates. "Arrr Arrr, Me Hardy!"
There's also something that sounds a little like growling, but is actually groaning. Again, the dog's body language gives a clue. If he is relaxed and not making eye contact, odds are it is a groan.
However, if a dog stares you straight in the eyes and emits a long, steady, low growl, with his body tense, he is warning that if you persist he will bite. If he's growling at you, you have a problem that should be addressed with the help of an expert. Handling it wrong or trying to fix it yourself based on something you've seen on TV about dominance can get you seriously injured.
If you're insistant on trying it on your own, try a non-confrontational approach like the NILIF (Nothing In Life Is Free) program. This program may be effective if the problem is resource guarding (ie growling when you try to take food or a toy away or try to move them from a chair or the bed).
== == * Sometimes it's not a good idea to teach your dog not to growl. This is especially true if there are aggression issues. A dog's growl can be his way of telling you something is making him uncomfortable to the point he is going to snap. I've seen where people have taught their dog not to growl, so now they just bite without warning. Before I took courses to become a certified dog trainer I was a fan of "The Dog Whisperer". That style of teaching is not well thought of in the positive reinforcement community of trainers. There was an article in the New York Times entitled "Pack of Lies" that pointed out the dangers involved with trying to dominate an aggressive dog the way Cesar does. I personally think you have to be crazy to use an alpha roll on any dog especially an aggressive one. When I see Cesar forcefully exposing a dog to its fear over and over (flooding) I know there are more humane ways of training a dog. The whole idea treating a dog as though it was a wild animal is not needed considering they have been domesticated for about 15,000 years. There are several teaching styles but I find using positive reinforcement to be the most effective. * We must realize that dogs growl for many reasons. Dogs can sense when something is wrong or if a person isn't what they appear to be so pay attention to when your dog growls. It doesn't matter if it's a family member, friend or someone you just met. Dogs that may growl at children could be the cause of a child tormenting the dog that you aren't aware of or at least neighborhood children that antagonized the dog to the point it doesn't like children. If this is the case then the dog should be put somewhere away from any children that may visit your home or muzzled until you get the dog trained. Also tying up your dog in the yard is a no-no. Dogs can be 'shamed' when they do something wrong (one should never hit a dog) and loved and praised when they do something right. My husband and I hired a good trainer instead of going to over-crowded classes. Our dogs listen to commands well and also watch our hand signals. Believe it or not we use "grunts" if we are displeased with them or want them to do something such as coming back to us if they are chasing something. For instance, if they are growling we will get up and investigate as to why (usually it's the mailman, paper boy, etc.) but there were times when strangers came to our house that we had our doubts about. We simply say, "eh!" in a sharp tone or "huh" in a different tone. Then we pet the dog and tell them to lay down while we investigate the problem. There are times it's been dark in the backyard and I'll let my dogs investigate, but then give the command after a minute or two for them to come to my side. A well trained dog is a total pleasure to have around and others get to enjoy them as well. * Training is the key to all behavioral problems with animals. You first have to teach your dog that you are the leader or "Alpha Male," and then you need to communicate to him what kinds of behaviors are acceptable or unacceptable. There is an excellent television series called "The Dog Whisperer" that teaches and demonstrates how to deal with behavioral problems in dogs. * Try to coax him off with a treat. If there's one thing my beagle can't resist, it's food. Then, whenever he gets off the furniture without growling or biting or takes criticism without howling, give him a reward. Hopefully, this will encourage him to continue his good behavior and stop the bad behavior. * No don't use a treat, that only reinforces bad behavior. Something deeper is going on then just him wanting to sit on the couch. Your dog is acting like a pack leader would act. He sees you as lower then him in the pact and he's letting you know that he doesn't like it when you move him off the couch. * I'm going to guess that in general, he acts out or behaves badly in a lot of situations. This is because you as the owner are not being the pack leader like you should be. He is seeing weakness in you and by his nature as a dog, is assuming the role as pack leader. * You need to be taking the attitude with him that what you says goes. I'm not talking about beating him into submission, you should never, ever beat a dog. Your voice needs to be firm and you need to stand firm when dealing with him. And reward behavior that is good, such as submitting to you or doing what you want. A reward doean't have to be a food treat. A few warm words and a head rub goes a long way toward reinforcing good behavior. * You might also check you local paper to see if there are any trainors in your area. And I'm not talking about just training your dog. You need to be trained also on how to be a proper pack leader for a dog. == ==

Is there anywhere service dogs are not permitted?
Note: "Seeing Eye" is a brand name of guide dog. This answer applies to all guide dogs and all service dogs. Generally guide, hearing and service dogs are permitted to accompany their disabled owner everywhere members of the public are allowed, but there are a few exceptions. For example, a member of the public would be permitted in the dining area of a restaurant, but not in the kitchen. Therefore, a guide dog would be permitted to accompany his disabled owner in the dining area of a restaurant. It is also an important distinction to note that it is the handler who has access rights and not the dog. A guide dog without his blind handler has no particular access rights of his own and neither does a hearing dog or other service dog without his disabled handler. "Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), businesses and organizations that serve the public must allow people with disabilities to bring their service animals into all areas of the facility where customers are normally allowed to go. This federal law applies to all businesses open to the public, including restaurants, hotels, taxis and shuttles, grocery and department stores, hospitals and medical offices, theaters, health clubs, parks, and zoos." -- U.S Department of Justice.
For clarification, contact the U.S. Department of Justice's ADA Information Line at 800 - 514 - 0301 (voice) or 800 - 514 - 0383 (TTY) In the U.S., according to the Department of Justice's Business Brief concerning Service Animals, business owners/managers can ask 2 specific questions. 1) Is this a service dog required because of a disability? and 2) What task(s) is the dog trained to perform? If these questions are not appropriately answered, the business may exclude the animal, but not the person. Though service animals of all kinds can legally accompany their disabled handler almost anywhere the handler goes, they can be excluded from areas where their presence would constitute either a fundamental alteration of goods and services available for all or a direct threat to safety. Examples where a service animal might be excluded include:
-Sterile rooms, such as operating rooms, some areas of emergency rooms/departments, some ICU rooms, some ambulances, some delivery rooms (on a case-by-case basis)
-Clean rooms where microchips are manufactured
-Places where food is prepared (though they cannot generally be excluded from dining areas where food is present) (by order of most health departments)
-Open air zoological exhibits, such as open air aviaries (at the zoo's discretion)
-Churches (at the church's discretion)
-Native American Tribal Council Chambers (at the council's discretion)
-Federal Courts (at the judge's discretion)
-Private clubs (at the club's discretion)
-Private homes (at the home owner's discretion)
So far, this discussion is centered entirely on laws of access in the United States of America. Other countries will have their own laws in place regarding the access rights of individuals accompanied by a service animal. ---- = = The most reliable source of information on this topic would be to call the United States Department of Justice's Americans with Disabilities Act Hotline toll-free at 800-514-0301 (voice) or 800-514-0383 (TDD). The ADA protects access rights of disabled service dog handlers. There are certain places where having a dog might propose a health risk and service dogs would not be allowed in these areas. These areas include Critical Care units and restaurant kitchens. A service dog would be allowed in the restaurant, but not in the food prep area. The service would be allowed in a regular hospital room but not the ICU.
Private clubs and religious organizations may also choose to not allow service dogs. This is up to the organization, they are exempt from the ADA.
By law, seeing eye-dogs are allowed everywhere. Except roller coaster I would imagine. They are allowed in restaurants and anywhere the owner goes as long as they have their service vest on.
