What is some advantages of co-ed schools to single-sex schools?

Here are some of the possible advantages of single-sex education:

1. Female students are more likely to participate. Without dominant guys monopolizing class discussions, the girls may feel bolder and less self-conscious to participate.

2. Education is more likely to occur despite such a society that puts so much emphasis on having sex. So this societal distraction is removed in gender segregated schools.

3. There are less likely to be sexual assaults between students of the opposite sex. However, gender segregated education won't stop same-sex student assaults nor statutory rape between faculty and students.

4. There won't be any bullying between students of the opposite sex.

5. Classroom content can be more finely tuned to the interests of the students. Class discussions can be more heartfelt for the girls and more active and competitive for the boys, all without alienating half the class.

6. There will be no competition between the genders, no flirting between students of the opposite sex, and no students doing foolish things to try to impress members of the other sex. So no boys beating up each other over girls (or the other way around), nobody bullying to try to impress students of the other sex, etc.

7. Sexist punishments won't be handed down to students. A number of schools two decades ago would arbitrarily punish half the student body by gender.

8. Students might be more secure in themselves and their gender identity. They will have more time focusing on themselves and relating to persons of their own gender before being thrust into adult sexual roles.

What is Andragogy and Principles of Teaching Adults?

If your 12-year-old son is doing poorly in school should you discipline him for bad grades?

Probably he needs some discipline, which refers to structure, rules and instruction rather than punishment. People tend to improve their behavior if the encouragement is positive, rather than shame-based.

Talk to his teachers to see what they see as the issues in his schoolwork. Bad behavior can also reflect his not being able to do the work, so he may be avoiding making it happen. You can request testing to find out if there are deficiencies in what he is able to do in English, math and if he has learning issues (language skills? gross and fine motor?) Do not rush to the ADHD sequence until you have checked everything else. I also had my kids go through the Sensory Integration testing (privately) through an Occupational Therapist and the information we gained gave us direction for helping them develop coping skills.

Children who are getting enough activity (sports, band and others), a balanced diet and enough sleep (remove the computer and TV from his room) generally handle the change from elementary school to middle school better. It may be hard, but show that you love him and try to find some activities to give the time you have together quality time getting to know one another.

What is the theory of multiple intelligences?

The Theory of Multiple Intelligences are the ways of learning in the educational system. This theory was Developed by Dr. Howard Gardner, a Psychologist and Educator. In 1983, He published his newfound theory in, The Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. The theories of multiple intelligences each represents a way of processing information. Though there is no clear answer to how many intelligences there are, here are some examples of Gardner's major categories and a few learning strategies for each one:

InterpersonalThis area has to do with interaction with others. In theory, people who have a high interpersonal intelligence tend to be extroverts, characterized by their sensitivity to others' moods, feelings, temperaments and motivations, and their ability to cooperate in order to work as part of a group. They communicate effectively and empathize easily with others, and may be either leaders or followers. They typically learn best by working with others and often enjoy discussion and debate.

Careers that suit those with this intelligence include sales, politicians, managers, teachers, and social workers.

Verbal-linguisticThis area has to do with words, spoken or written. People with high verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing words along with dates. They tend to learn best by reading, taking notes, listening to lectures, and discussion and debate. They are also frequently skilled at explaining, teaching and oration or persuasive speaking. Those with verbal-linguistic intelligence learn foreign languages very easily as they have high verbal memory and recall, and an ability to understand and manipulate syntax and structure.

Careers that suit those with this intelligence include writers, lawyers, philosophers, journalists, politicians, poets, and teachers.

Logical-mathematicalThis area has to do with logic, abstractions, reasoning, and numbers. While it is often assumed that those with this intelligence naturally excel in mathematics, chess, computer programming and other logical or numerical activities, a more accurate definition places emphasis on traditional mathematical ability and more reasoning capabilities, abstract patterns of recognition, scientific thinking and investigation, and the ability to perform complex calculations. It correlates strongly with traditional concepts of "intelligence" or IQ.

Careers which suit those with this intelligence include scientists, mathematicians, engineers, doctors and economists.

IntrapersonalThis area has to do with introspective and self-reflective capacities. People with intrapersonal intelligence are intuitive and typically introverted. They are skillful at deciphering their own feelings and motivations. This refers to having a deep understanding of the self; what are your strengths/ weaknesses, what makes you unique, can you predict your own reactions/ emotions.

Careers which suit those with this intelligence include philosophers, psychologists, theologians, marine biologists, lawyers, and writers. Also prefer to work alone.

MusicalThis area has to do with rhythm, music, and hearing. Those who have a high level of musical-rhythmic intelligence display greater sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones, and music. They normally have good pitch and may even have absolute pitch, and are able to sing, play musical instruments, and compose music. Since there is a strong auditory component to this intelligence, those who are strongest in it may learn best via lecture. Language skills are typically highly developed in those whose base intelligence is musical. In addition, they will sometimes use songs or rhythms to learn and memorize information.

Careers that suit those with this intelligence include instrumentalists, singers, conductors, disc-jockeys, orators, writers and composers.

Why does the progress of science require both curiosity and methodology?

Curiosity drives scientists to ask questions and seek answers, leading to new discoveries and knowledge. Methodology provides the structure and discipline needed to conduct experiments, analyze data, and draw meaningful conclusions. By combining curiosity and methodology, the progress of science is guided by rigorous investigation while allowing for exploration and innovation.

What is continuous Assessment?

Continuous Assessment are assessments (evaluations) that takes place over a period of time.

In other words you will be assessed right through your learning process and not only after the learning process. By doing continuous assessment you can track the improvement (if any) of the learner, you will be able to give more support and guidance, and the learner will have more opportunities to improve.

What are the accomplishments of Emilio Aguinaldo as President of the Philippines?

1869-1964), revolutionary and statesman of the Philippines

Emilio Aguinaldo consolidated a strong nationalist movement against Spain only to face a stronger opponent of Filipino independence, the U.S. government. Though initially aided by U.S. Navy and consular agents, Aguinaldo's provisional government became the primary obstacle to the annexation policy of President William McKinley after Spain capitulated in August 1898. Six months later, U.S. troops drove Filipino militias from and pursued them into the countryside. With his political council divided between accommodationists and die‐hard nationalists, and his regiments poorly trained and ill‐equipped, Aguinaldo's was perhaps a doomed effort. Nevertheless, he used guerrilla tactics and clandestine political organization to resist, retreating from redoubt to redoubt until his capture by Gen. Frederick Funston on 31 March, 1901. Accepting defeat, he swore allegiance to the United States and retired to his plantation. In 1935, he lost a bid for the presidency of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. After supporting Japanese occupation during World War II, Aguinaldo was imprisoned in 1945, but received amnesty. He died in 1964, a tragic but beloved hero.

(March 22, 1869 - February 6, 1964). He was 29 years old when he became Chief of State, first as head of the dictatorship he thought should be established upon his return to Cavite in May 1898 from voluntary exile in Hongkong, and then a month later as President of the Revolutionary Government that Apolinario Mabini had persuaded him should instead be instituted.

Aguinaldo's presidential term formally began in 1898 and ended on April 1, 1901, when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States a week after his capture in Palanan, Isabela. His term also featured the setting up of the Malolos Republic, which has its own Congress, Constitution, and national and local officialdom -- proving Filipinos also had the capacity to build.
