Ethics and Morality

Ethics is about what we should – and should not - do. It includes identification of basic principles, e.g. the prerogatives of property owners; and the application of those principles to actual situations, e.g. copyright protection of intellectual property over the Internet.

Is compliant behaviour the same as Ethical behaviour?

Compliancy does not automatically equate to ethical behaviour. While behaving in a legally compliant manner is certainly a step towards being ethical, it is still possible to be unethical whilst being totally compliant with legislation.

What is Britishers What does being Ukrainian mean?

There is no such English word as "Britishers". However "British" means of or relating to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Citizens of that territory would say they were "British" nationals.

Similarly, a "Ukrainian" would be a citizen of the country of "Ukraine".

What does pragmatic mean?

It means being practical in solving issues or situations. As an example, say you have to find a way across a river. A pragmatist would look at the river, figure out how to get across with the least amount of effort and fuss. They may create a way by just using a fallen tree, rather than making a bridge. To be pragmatic person will only deal with things that are there, are real, practical and not a theory, idea or pipe dream.

What is illegitimacy of tyranny?

It refers to the idea that tyrannical takeover of a ruling entity (whether it be a monarch, or some other body of government) is an illegitimate act.

Although, in CA state standard 10.1.2 for social sciences, I see this as contradictory because Plato and Aristotle both see government as an entity that should serve for the benefit of society, rather than for benefits of their own; and for this, I would assume that they support the idea of tyranny because it represents the people rising up against an oppressive governing body who is governing in a way contrary to a way that would best benefit society.

However, they do also touch on the idea of the people respecting the laws made by "the wise" because not all are of the same level of philosophical education, and thus not all capable of considering the effects of law with regard to the virtue of the people.

Kareem has information leading him to believe that one of his company's products has been tested on animals even though they state that it was not which common ethical dilemma does this put him in?

this is a classic example of whether or not he should be a "whistleblower" (someone who tells the public about a wrongdoing of an organization to which they belong) on his company. It tests his loyalty to his firm against his knowledge that his company is being dishonest with the public.

Actually it is not whistleblower. Whistleblower would have turned it in already in this question he has not turned anyone in yet and he is in the dilemna of what to do so the actual ethical dilemna would be Loyalty vs. Truth. I know this because i have seen it on a test very recently and got it right.

What is Immanuel Kant's moral philosophy?

That every action must be treated as an end, and that every end must me morally sound and just. Look into the Catagorical Imperative.

Every rational action must set before itself not only a principle, but also an end. Most ends are of a subjective kind, because they need only be pursued if they are in line with some particular hypothetical imperative that a person may choose to adopt. For an end to be objective, it would be necessary that we categorically pursue it.

The free will is the source of all rational action. But to treat it as a subjective end is to deny the possibility of freedom in general. Because the autonomous will is the one and only source of moral action, it would contradict the first formulation to claim that a person is merely a means to some other end, rather than always an end in themselves.

On this basis, Kant derives second formulation of the categorical imperative from the first.

  • "Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, always at the same time as an end and never merely as a means to an end"Answers.com

By combining this formulation with the first, we learn that a person has perfect duty not to use the humanity of themselves or others merely as a means to some other end. As a Slaverywould be effectively asserting a moral right to own a person as a slave, they would be asserting a property right in another person. But this would violate the categorical imperative because it denies the basis for there to be free rational action at all; it denies the status of a person as an end in themselves. One cannot, on Kant's account, ever suppose a right to treat another person as a mere means to an end.

The second formulation also leads to the imperfect dutyto further the ends of ourselves and others. If any person desires perfection in themselves or others, it would be their moral duty to seek that end for all people equally, so long as that end does not contradict perfect duty.

Why do people betray us?

Sometimes people think that it is for your own good but it is never good to betray anyone. Although, generaly, the most comon reason is simply because they don't like you or don't wan't you to know something because they are afraid you will be upset.

I hope that you will take none of this seriously because there are many different reasons and some we will never find out but the easiest way of finding out is to just ask them strait out. Be completely truthful (so that they feel bad about betraying you) and just ask them.

Critically assess the view that there is no single Christian approach to morality?

The Bible says that man is basically an amoral creature - "There is none good, no not one" (Roms.3.12). This is in relation to God's judgement. However in man's judgement, morality may mean many things to many people.

But because, after God's judgement, no one is moral, good or righteous, (in other words, we are all sinners), so God sent Jesus, his only Son, as a propitiation, atonement and sacrifice for our sins or lack of morals. And only in accepting his sacrifice, are we judged by God to be moral, good or righteous.

So in the Bible, which is the word of the living God to Christians, there is only one way to morality or goodness and righteousness in God's sight - through faith in Jesus Christ.

What is logically impossible?

Whatever is inconceivable (unthinkable) is logically impossible. A standard example is a circular square: since the properties of being circular and being square are incompatible, no individual can be a circular square. What is logically impossible is often contrasted with what is causally impossible.
