What are the major difference between an embryo at 2 weeks and at 8 weeks after conception?

At two weeks after conception you have a mass of cells that have the potential to form a baby, the placenta and umbilical cord.

At eight weeks the dividing cells start to resemble the human form with a spinal column, brain stem, little buds forming arms and legs, with a beating heart and circulatory system.

By nine weeks the little feet measure about 7 mm, with toes formed.

Can a fetus survive without amniotic fluid for over 2 months in the womb?

The answer is yes. I currently have a daughter whose water broke at 26 weeks and she is now at 29 weeks and in the hospital until she delivers. The baby continues to make the fluid and her head is down close to where the hole in the sac is located. There is risk of infection, of course, but she had a round of anti-biotics. Another consideration is the baby's position in relation to the cord, so she is put on the baby monitor regularly. They are trying to get her to 34 weeks, and she has been through some contractions, but none that would make delivery necessary. As she also has placenta previa, her occasional bleeding is more of a problem than the water breaking. Infection is a reason deliver, and also if the baby is experiencing distress on the monitor.

So, yes, the water can break and in my daughter's case, she is still pregnant and hoping for every day "Ann" gets to stay in the womb!

What week does the esophagus develop in a fetus?

Esophagus develops from foregut and by week 10 is lined by ciliated epithelial cells.

-Beginning at 4 months, the ciliated epithelium starts to be replaced by squamous epithelium. At either end of the esophagus the ciliated epithelium gives rise to esophageal glands.

-The upper esophagus is derived from branchial arches 4, 5, and 6, but the derivation of the lower esophagus is not known.

-The development of various elements of esophageal wall requires coordination of a variety of genes and mediators.

-Esophageal peristalsis appears in the first trimester, and gastroesophageal reflux can be documented in the second trimester.
