Art is all about interpretation, when a person looks at art and can 'identify' with what they think the artist had in mind when creating it, that can help give them a sense of understanding and or recognition of other people going through the same experiences as them and help them to feel better about themselves.

What were the fauvists main ideas?
In Fauvist principles colors were freed from their typical use. For example, plants were no longer only restricted to colors like green and brown. Fauvist painters were able to manipulate emotion with the use of powerful color positioning. Fauve paintings consisted of intense brushstrokes, rich surface textures, energetic linear patterns, and bold colors in order to arouse the emotions of their viewers. There is notable influence from Post-Impressionistic painters such as Van Gogh whose legacy was built upon during this movement. Fauvists also noted their influence from Impressionism, which they desired to develop on. Although the movement did not last long, they did help evolve the direction of painting by liberating the restrictive functions of structure and color.

In my opinion the emotion the artist is trying to show us all is loneliness, sadness and disappointment he has used dull colours and shadings to depict this. however i believe that he has also tried to show a happy sid to the artwork due to the light shades and light on some specific objects such as the oranges and bottle.
Thats my example :D hope it helped :)

There is no one right answer to this question. Art has several functions, and which function it serves depends on the context in which it is used. Art can for example have the function to:

Abstract reasoning is a part of problem solving: the ability to understand a problem and what process is needed to find a solution. It involves knowledge and experience, and the ability to evaluate the concepts that are involved.
People use abstract reasoning every day. Here is an example:
If a tree limb falls on your roof, you may want to know the best way to remove it without causing further damage. You must know if it is safe for you to climb a ladder, and to walk on the roof, and about how heavy the limb is to lift. You would not want to fall through the roof yourself. You would want to get it to the ground without hitting any wires, or gutters, or lawn furniture. You might have to temporarily repair the roof, and do so in an effective way. You might need to cut the limb into smaller pieces to remove, or afterwards so that they can be carted away. All of these activities have to be considered before you can attempt to solve the problem - to just climb up onto the roof without any knowledge or planning could result in even bigger problems.
Summary of the proto renaissance era?
The Renaissance begins in the early 1300s. Some people call this period "Late Gothic" - which just means the late Middle Ages, while other people call it the "Proto-Renaissance" - the beginnings of the Renaissance. In any case, a big revolution is beginning to take place in the early 1300s - in the way people think about the world, the way they think about the past, and the way they think about themselves and their relationship with God. * http://smarthistory.us/site/about
