Give examples and discuss the classification of art?

Abstract.-An attempt was made to determine, primarily, along what dimensions a classification takes place, and secondarily whether the same dimensions appear in different style periods: renaissance, baroque, and rococo, when paintings and pieces of music were judged by the "semantic differential" technique. The factor-analysis produced six factors, which were interpreted as follows: I Aesthetic-qualitative evaluation, II Emotional tone, III Symbolism, IV Dynamics, V Clarity, and VI Stillness. Factors I, II, and III occurred in all style periods, both in painting and in music.

What is meant by a wide range of values?

A wide range of values in art refers to the use of many values of light. A value scale is the easiest way to visualize this. Make 10 small squares on a page. Square 1 is solid black, square 10 is complete white, all squares in between become progressively lighter (towards the white end) or darker (the black end). This 10 square scale is a small range of values.

What colors mix to make red?

To get red you have to subtract colors not add.

Use magenta pigment to subtract the yellow, green, and turquoise colors. Then add yellow pigment to remove the blue and violet. That subtracts every color but red from the whit light striking the pigments.

Red is not primary anymore. Mix magenta and yellow to get red.

Why does Christ's head usually fall to the right on representations of the crucifixion?

This can only be artistic license. It obviously could have fallen to the left or forwards as well. Obviously if forwards, then the face would be obscured and this would be unacceptable from many an artists perspective. Perhaps there is some idea that 'left is bad' or else some famous artist started this 'tradition' which has been followed ever since. There would not appear to be any historical basis for it, certainly not from the four Gospel accounts. They were of course most interested in the fact of Jesus' death, not in where the head turned afterwards.

Where the head is, according to the artistic depiction, may also relate to other subject matter in the painting. Jesus' head may have been turned towards some onlookers also depicted in the picture and He is certainly recorded as speaking to people shortly before His death. Thus if the artist has put these people on the right side, Jesus' head would already be turned that way. In any case, this is all part of the artistic craft.
