Depends on where you live but anywhere from 20k-40k roughly there are higher salaries in places like NYC but that is only for increased cost of living. However, they also have good medical and a pension plan in most areas.

Check with the state that you live in. Generally, public service positions require a clean record. A felony narrows your list of occupations significantly.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the estimated mean annual wage for firefighters as of May 2008 is, $45,700. This would amount to $21.97 per hour. Median annual wages of fire fighters were $44,260 in May 2008. The middle 50 percent earned between $31,180 and $58,440. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $22,440, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $72,210. Median annual wages were $44,800 in local government, $45,610 in the Federal Government, $25,300 in other support services, and $37,870 in State governments.

Median annual wages of first-line supervisors/managers of fire fighting and prevention workers were $67,440 in May 2008. The middle 50 percent earned between $53,820 and $86,330. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $40,850, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $108,930. First-line supervisors/managers of fire fighting and prevention workers employed in local government earned a median of about $69,000 a year.

Almost 3,000 died. About 350 firefighters were included in that when the buildings fell on them as they tried to rescue people. Friction loss is one of the things we use that's critical when pumping a fire truck with crosslays/hose off the truck. The most common formula runs off 100ft sections in the following size/FL format:

1.75 hose (crosslay/jump line): ~13.5 PSI loss per 100' section 2.5" hose (blitz line): ~18 PSI loss per 100' section 5" hose: .08 PSI loss per 100' section

All rates are based on your typical flow rate in GPM's...however the more gallonage the more friction loss.

There is an accepted standard for GPM and friction loss:

1.5" hose 100GPM at 30PSI per 100'

1.75" hose 150 GPM at 32 PSI per 100'

Presumably this is promotion, in the same company or in an equivalent position at a different company. You need to show that you know the job. Show that you understand what a supervisor needs to do. What makes a good supervisor in your company or industry? In any industry, a supervisor should be able to manage people. This means more than being liked. It means being respected. It means being able to communicate the priorities of the company to the staff. It means understanding your employees and their needs, and knowing how their needs fit in with the needs of the organization.

Cast iron was used a lot in the past for building materials. Even though it is not used now for beams and columns in construction, it was in older buildings.

When under high heat, and especially when under high heat and then suddenly cooled (as with a fire hose) cast iron can become extremely brittle and collapse, resulting in injury or death to firefighters.

If firefighters are fighting a fire in an older building, this is a huge safety concern. Load-bearing beams or columns made from cast iron have been sited for building collapses in the past during fires.

At the very basic level, most culinary arts colleges require a GED and/or a high school graduation certificate and transcripts to be able to qualify for entrance into their schools.

You will need to have a strong desire to work long hours standing on your feet, like to cook, be somewhat artistic and desire to manage others in order to move up in the ranks. The culinary arts profession is a challenging one. It is also very expensive to attend a culinary arts school so it is important to make sure you find out what the college's placement success rate is and for what types of positions. You will not want to put in months or years of efforts only to find out that you cannot get a decent job that will earn you enough to live on.

This is a great field for someone who is highly motivated and truly enjoys preparing some amazing foods. You can become a top chef somewhere in the world if you work hard and choose your school wisely. :)

The size of the department and its structure will determine the ranks of the fire fighting force. In the US, we generally see it like this from the fire fighter up the chain of command. We start with a fire fighter, then go to lieutenant, captain, battalion chief, assistant chief and chief of the department. Certainly there is a lot of room for other ranks, particularly at the top of larger departments. Assistant chiefs can have different responsibilities, like the assistant chief who is the Chief of Training. Additionally, different jobs can be conducted by individuals of different ranks. A fire investigator might be a lieutenant or a captain, depending on the department. The officer on an engine might be a captain, a lieutenant or even a senior firefighter. In smaller departments, someone who is effectively a captain and wearing a pair of bugles on his collar might be the highest ranking fire fighter on the force, and he is considered the chief. Variations will appear from one department or fire district to another.

If you live in a big city (New York/Chicago) then yes. The pay is not great but it's usually enough to just get by.

If you don't live in a big city then no. Chances are your local fire department is a volunteer organization. I encourage everyone to be a firefighter whether paid or volunteer. It's feels great to help your community and it's fun as hell!

The average salary for a Fire Chief in the state of North Carolina is $45,000. The exact salary will depend upon the municipality they work for and their experience/tenure.

In Washington State Firefighter make 65,000 a year but you have to do volunteer work first (2 yrs) before a fire dept will hire you. Border Patrol Agents Make around 55,000 a year. So I heard....

You should put different things on a fire depending on what is causing the fire. Water is good for fires with nonmetallic combustible sources such as paper or wood. For electrical, grease, or metallic fires you will need fire extinguishers made for those types of fires.
