What to do if i suspect Heat stroke?

Heat Stroke is often confused with "Heat Exhaustion", which is less severe. Heat Stroke is acute hyperthermia which is a true, life-threatening medical emergency. Patients with heat stroke will display the following signs and symptoms: * high body temperature * the absence of sweating, with hot red or flushed dry skin (Hallmark symptom!) * rapid pulse * difficulty breathing * strange behavior * hallucinations * confusion * agitation * disorientation Patient's with severe hyperthermia need to be cooled as soon as possible. First Aid Steps: * ACTIVATE EMS IMMEDIATELY. This patient must be transported to definitive medical care as soon as possible. If EMS is delayed or you are in a remote area, they can give you further advice on how to treat the patient while you await their arrival. * Move the patient to a cool or shaded area. * If patient is unconscious, place on his or her side, with an arm tucked under the head. This will help avoid aspiration should the patient vomit. * Apply cool or tepid water to the skin. A light mist from a garden hose will work, or wet towels. Fan the patient to promote evaporation and sweating. * Apply towel-wrapped ice-packs to the armpits and groin area. * Do NOT give food or liquids to any partially conscious patient.

Do you give oxygen to a acute stroke patient?

In a first aid context, yes you do. Stroke damage occurs when sufficient oxygen is not delivered to neurological tissue, result in damage. Anything you do that increases O2 transport is a good thing.

How do you remove tics from people?

They say you should use a credit card or something similar to scrape the tick away. If you grab it and squeeze with your fingers, you risk squeezing some unwanted fluid back into the person. This can be bad, especially if the tick has bitten anything with lyme disease. If you are concerned, you can have the tick sent off to be tested. Get a lighter and some tweezers.Get the tip of the tweezers hot. Then barley touch the tic with the tweezers and hold it there for however long it takes to kill it.After it dies you can pick it out.Whatever you do try not to touch your skin with the hot tweezers.GOOD LUCK REMOVING THE TIC!!!***

This last entry is INCORRECT! DO NOT DO THIS! The heat and pressure will surely cause the tick to push fluid back into you, giving you an injection of whatever blood they sucked before you. A great way to remove ticks is to get some soapy water on a paper towel. Put it on the tick and rub in a circular motion. Do this for 60 seconds, and the tick will fall right off.

Should you put an electric shock victim in a shower?

There is no reason to put an electric shock victim in a shower. As with most first aid issues, the order of operations is as follows: * Don't approach the victim until you're SURE it's safe. With electricity that means you need to KNOW the power is off. * ABC (Airway, Breathing, Circualtion) --- CPR as needed. * Treat the burn, if any, as per first aid guidelines. * If the victim was at any point unconscious, if the burn appears to be more than superficial, or if you aren't sure, transport. I've heard of a wive's tale of patients retaining a residual charge, but I don't see how that could be possible, so additional grounding of the patient (more than them already being on the ground) is not only unnecessary -- how would you get them there without touching them?

Why should you remove stingers carefully and quickly?

ANSWER:

Because the stinger of the honeybee has barbs on it, it will stick and stay in your skin and it has a muscular contraction that continues to pump venom into your body. Remove it with a sharp knife or piece of paper. Don't use your fingers because this will squeeze the venom sac, injecting more venom. The honeybee stinger is the only one with barbs.

You can scrape it out with a fingernail if a knife or paper isn't to hand.

Can HUSK ointment still be purchased?

My mother called the company who made it (I believe that it was absorbed by Johnson and Johnson) and they sent her the last three pound jars that the company had in stock. We've been using it ever since, but we've been wondering if a compounding pharmacy could make it. In short, the answer is no, and theoretically the last three pounds of it ever went to my mom when she called them.

Well, after some thought on this subject and some research, the only answer we can expect is as fallows: There are millions and millions of earwigs in the world, if a bite was in anyway serious, there would have to have been an epidemic many long years ago. Go to a dentist. First place the broken tooth into some milk, in a CLEAN cup or CLEAN bottle or CLEAN sandwich bag. Then drive to a dentist. You'd be suprised what they can do. The more whole the milk the better, and soy isn't milk. Just FYI :-)

A 4 year old who hit his head may have caused some injury, but if he is acting okay is not likely to be serious. The lump caused by such an injury will typically feel hard. If the area seems very sensitive the child should be taken to a doctor to make sure there is no skull fracture.
