There are trained professionals who can be called when somebody is sick or injured, but if the average person knows first aid and CPR, hurt, sick, or dying people can receive life-saving care much faster.

Some injuries or illnesses can also be treated without professional care if the average person knows enough first aid to handle it alone.

Yes it's very possible and quite common because compressing the chest is an unnatural movement. If a rib or two break, please do not stop CPR as this is an injury that can be repaired later, your priority is giving the patient a chance at survival.

The carpals articulate distally with the ulna. The carpals are also known as the wrist bones.

You should never use lotions or oitments or butters or anything like that on a burn of any sort. If it is a first degree, or relatively minor burn, you can apply aloe vera on, which is a cooling gel, but if there is any blistering, or if the skin looks charred, then you need to either call 911 or you need to visit the local hospital before you apply anything to it. Also, if the burn appears that it is infected, then you also will need to call either 911 or visit your local hospital.

Typically you would use a heat pack (or hot water bottle etc) for a muscle injury. If you have pulled a muscle, hot (or cold) treatment will soothe the area

Depending on how big the glass shard is, you'll notice recurrrent sharp pain at the site, as you move or are touched. On examination, you'll find a entry wound where the glass entered (unless the wound is very old and has healed over). The area around the wound will be reddended and sensitive. When probing the wound, you'll feel a very shapr pain whenever the probe touchs the glass. Glass will show up on xray, although not very well (some glass is "leaded" -- lead is chemically bonded to the glass compound ---leaded glass is easily discernable on xrays). Glass will also show up clearly on MRI scans. As far as you human body is concerned, glass is inert, so it won't change, discolor or dissolve into your system over time.

It really depends on what metacarpal(s) were broken and how severe the break(s) are.

A boxer's fracture is the fracture of the fourth or fifth metacarpal. The 4th is the ring finger and the 5th is the pinky. I recently broke my fifth metacarpal. I will spend 4 weeks in a cast, two more weeks in a brace and then another six weeks of self rehabilitation to everything to get back to normal.

If you are interested in helping others in emergency situations, I recommend taking a First Aid training course. Some places you can get that is local community colleges, the American Red Cross, or the American Heart Association.

When you get older, you become less capable of doing things. Running gets harder, lots of things get harder. Your bones get weaker.

Depends on the concentration of the bleach you inhaled. A little whiff won't do harm. Lengthy exposure to high concentration bleach can damage the airway and lungs quite severely. In all but very extreme cases, this would present as a nasty, productive chest cold, or pneumonia. A chest xray might show lesions as well. Extreme cases may cause blood to appear in the sputum -- what you cough up. If you see blood, go to the ER. Usually, one brief exposure to breathing household bleach will not cause significant damage -- usually. However, it's wise to only use bleach in a well-ventilated environment.

You need to wash the affected area immediately with soap and water, then you need to make certain that your tetanus shot is current. If not you should cover the wound with a clean dry piece of gauze and seek medical attention for a tetanus booster shot to protect you.

You would want to make a splint to keep the finger from moving and then ice it. Popsickle sticks taped to the finger work as great splints.

Your lungs. There are millions of little sacs in your lungs and smoking damages them. Soon you will start to feel the affects: Couging, chest pain, shortness of breath, wheezing, and your risk for lung cancer shoots sky high.

Suffocation and living on a venalator will be in the near future if you smoke alot. Smoking also affects your esophigas...you can get huge veins in the lining of it which causes continuous bleeding. Also, you are at risk for mouth cancer as well.

Your best bet: Stop smoking. You can do it!

My first aid kit is located in laundry room because its the centre of the house so were ever i am ill be able to access it.really its your choice were you want it.

You should be able to see the persons chest rise and fall with each breath you give them along with feeling and hearing the air come back out with each breath. That is where you get "Look, Listen and Feel" for breathing. You are going to see and feel the same thing as if the person was breathing on their own. You are just doing it for them.

You need to seek help from a doctor, otherwise you may suffer very nasty infections or diseases from your open wound. You can wrap a bandage tightly around your arm and hope it closes on its own.

Depending on the age of the child, the most common rash found in the ante-cubital fossa (elbow area) is eczema - a form of dry skin, secondary to irritation, low humidity, or rarely a milk allergy. The application of a steroid cream (ie, hytone 2.5%) and lotion (aquacare), short baths with no bubbles, and an oral anti-itching medication (ie, benadryl, atarax) will usually suffice. RBB, MD

Concussion is a trauma condition in which the brain is violently shaken against the skull. This causes swelling and contusion of the brain.

Signs and symptoms of concussion include:

- Unequal and unresponsive pupils.

- Confusion and vertigo.

- Sign of trauma to the head.

- Nausea and vomiting.

- Headache and dizziness.

- Lowered GCS and altered Level of Consciousness

Patients with suspected concussion should be monitored closely for any deterioration with could indicate cerebral compression. If the patient was knocked out for any period they should be evaluated by a doctor immediately.

If you are in doubt of the severity of the condition, call the ambulance or refer to the patient to the nearest Emergency Department.

Continue to monitor the patient until help (EMS) arrives.

Medical kits should contain basic first aid supplies such as bandages, dressings, pain relievers, water purification tablets, sunscreen, antiseptics, and ointments.

Many things can go wrong in a lab you can get bad stuff like chemicals , and or some sort of splinter in your eyes that's what eye wash is for wich could be in a first aid kit. You could cut yourself on a knife or broken glass which is wat antiseptic and a banaid is for or you could burn yourself and of these can be treated with stuff from a first aid kit.

This differs with some ambulance companies but applying a tourniquet would be the next step. Some companies took tourniquets out of the protocols.
