How do you clean the white grout in a shower without harming the grout in any way?

Answer

Mix up a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water. Best to use a paintbrush or something similar to paint the paste onto the grout. Leave for a few hours and then wash off. Grout should be sparkling white. For really stubborn stains, use the same paste on a soft toothbrush and some old fashioned elbow grease.

As for the smell.... I hope you like vinegar!!

What is the average cost per square foot to gut and renovate a kitchen?

A lot of this will depend on materials selected to be installed and any "surprises" located once everything is ripped out...trust me, there will be some. An average kitchen, stripped to the studs and sub-floor should budget out between $15 and $20K if you are hiring sub-contractors (unless you are proficient, DO THIS!) You can cut the cost in half if you are able to competently (be serious about your abilities as screw-ups are costly) complete the job.

Budget for the following professionals for sure: electrician, plumber, drywall crew

Secondary professionals: Flooring, Cabinet Installer, Painter

How many square feet are in a room that is 20 feet by 15 feet?

300 square feet. Just multiply length by width - the answer is the square footage.

Convert meters into square meters?

One length times one width will give you the square measurement of any area. Meters, feet, inches as long as you use the same measurement. 6 meters by 3 meters, equals 18 square meters. 6x3=18

Lumber - How do you calculate board feet?

Though "board foot" sounds a measurement of area it is actually a measurement of volume. 1 board foot equals 144 cubic inches of wood.

Length x Width x Thickness = Board Feet

Therefore a board that is 12 inches x 12 inches x 1 inch is 1 board foot.

But so is a board that is 12 x 6 x 2

However, you must take into account the fact that all lumber is actually a different size than it says it is. A 2 x 12 is actually 1-1/2 by 11-1/2. So instead of a board foot of 1 x 12 being 12 inches long, it would be:

144 / (3/4 x 11-1/2) or 13.22 inches long.

How much is 12 dollars per yard in square feet?

If a square yard of something is $12, then one square foot of it (1/9th of a square yard), would be worth $1.33 (1/9th times $12, rounded to the nearest penny).

When insulating a homes crawlspace does the paper side face the underside of the flooring above or does it face down?

Vapor retarder (commonly known as Vapor Barrier), is commonly used to keep moisture out of a defined area space or material. The 2006 International Building Code defines Vapor Retarder as follows: VAPOR RETARDER. A vapor-resistant material, membrane or covering such as foil, plastic sheeting or insulation facing having a permeance rating of 1 perm (5.7 ´ 10-11 kg/Pa × s × m2) or less, when tested in accordance with the dessicant method using Procedure A of ASTM E 96. Vapor retarders limit the amount of moisture vapor that passes through a material or wall assembly Vapor barrier is commonly used in crawl spaces to keep the ground moisture out of the insulating materials. In cold areas vapor barrier is applied to the WARM SIDE IN WINTER over the insulation to keep moisture from the living space from getting to the insulation and condensing as the air gets colder on the outside of the wall/floor. The building codes actually require this application in most areas. However, in crawl spaces there is usually a larger amount of moisture in the ground and most jurisdictions allow the vapor barrier material to be applied to the bottom of the insulation or crawl space side. Some jurisdictions require both sides. Remember that the newer codes require a vapor barrier on the ground in crawl spaces. IRC N1102.2.8 Crawl space walls. As an alternative to insulating floors over crawl spaces, insulation of crawl space walls when the crawl space is not vented to the outside is permitted. Crawl space wall insulation shall be permanently fastened to the wall and extend downward from the floor to the finished grade level and then vertically and/or horizontally for at least an additional 24 inches (610 mm). Exposed earth in unvented crawl space foundations shall be covered with a continuous vapor retarder. All joints of the vapor retarder shall overlap by 6 inches (152 mm) and be sealed or taped. The edges of the vapor retarder shall extend at least 6 inches (152 mm) up the stem wall and shall be attached to the stem wall. Ask your local building inspection department for advice and clarification on the best application in your area. Hope this helps! Terry NEW ANSWER To answer the question, you want to insulate the foundation of the crawlspace. Where the house meets the foundation is called the sil box. That is where 90% of the outside air is infultrating your crawlspace. Stop the problems where it starts, The foundation.(the exterior walls).

Is pergo good flooring?

That is a question that you will get a lot of different opinions on.

I'm going to assume that by Pergo you mean all laminates since Pergo is just one of the brands. The advantages of laminate are that it is inexpensive both to purchase and install, it is a floating float and very easy to clean. The disadvantage of laminate is that on most of them you are definitely able to see the fact that they are not real, with large sun exposure the colors can fade and it makes a hollow thudding sound as you walk on it.

If you meant Pergo as a brand, they are a pretty good company but tend to be a little more expensive than others.

Can you use a steam cleaner or mop on laminate flooring?

It is NOT recommended to use a steam cleaner on laminate flooring. Water and laminate do not mix, neither does water and hardwood. Ask these steam cleaning manufacturers if they will replace your floors when they get damaged!

AnswerNEVER! AnswerNo!!!! Please don't do this. You will ruin your floor. Answerno, never.

Steam cleaners and steam mops leave to much water on a laminate floor. I did, just once, and the floor now crackles all over whenever you step on it.
It is best to consult the manufacturer of your floor, but I would be hesitant to try it. It is usually not recommended to use water to clean laminate flooring.

How do you remove mascara from carpet?

Eyeshadow, mascara, blusher - washing with your usual laundry product may remove these stains. Pretreat the dry fabric stain with a laundry pre-soak (spot stain remover). On an unwashable fabric, first try dry cleaning fluid. If stains are stubborn, sponge with equal quantities of methylated spirits (wood alcohol) and household ammonia. (Test on coloured fabrics first). If colour fades, reduce ammonia by half and test again. Rinse in warm water, or wash if possible. Haha.. this happened to the carpet in my room. Take Clorox Carpet Cleaner or whatever you use and spray it over the mascara stain. Then, using an old toothbrush, scrub it well. Then put a paper towel over it for a few hours and it should come out.
