How do you get piston in rear caliper to retract back into the caliper so you can change the pads on a 2007 Ford Five Hundred?

You need a special tool, which is pretty commonly available. It is a disk with a 3/8" square hole in the center, and two pegs on one side. The pegs fit into corresponding slots on the piston, and you ratchet the pistons back into their seats. I can't remember which direction they turn, but I think it is clockwise.

How do you replace ford fivehundred rear wheel bearing hub?

Jack up car and remove wheel. Remove the two anchor bracket bolts for the caliper (this method does not require unbolting the caliper). Remove the one bolt that holds the brake disk on the hub assy. Hang the caliper/bracket, pads, disk out of the way. Remove the dust shield. Get some rust remover and wire brush to clean off the ends of the 4 bolts that secure the hub assembly. They protrude 1/4" through the threaded holes on the hub assembly, work them out carefully. After the 4 bolts are out, pry out the hub assembly, be aware of where the ABS sensor is, dont damage it prying the hub out.

Clean off all mounting surfaces, scrape out the corrosion in the hub assy pocket. Insert new hub, draw it in square alternating bolt tightening. install dust shield, brake disk, caliper/bracket, wheel and your done.

Need a T40 torx for the brake disk. need a box end wrench for all 6 of the bolts you have to remove (15mm?) 6 point would be best. It took me an hour and a half per side because I didnt want to damage the hub mounting bolts (due to the rusted ends) and took my time.

What are pros and cons of directional tires?

"directional tires" refers to tire with eitherasymmetrical or rotational tread patterns.

Pros of rotational tires:

1) generally better resistance to hydroplaning than traditional tread patterns

2) generally better stopping than traditional tread patterns

3) generally better heat dispersal than traditional tread patterns

4) typically look pretty nifty

Cons of rotational tires:

1) cannot "cross" during tire rotation

2) if used for a full-size spare, likely to lose benefits in "pros"

3) Are more likely to be "performance tires" (check with your tire seller) with a shorter expected tread life than some other tires. This is not always so.

Pros of asymmetrical tires:

1) Typically better cornering stability

2) Allows for multi-compound tread for reduced shoulder wear (longer tread life at the edges) and better temperature control

Cons of asymmetrical tires:

1) must be replaced exclusively in pairs (axle sets) to prevent 'tire pull'

How do you reset the oil change light on a 2007 ford five hundred?

IF you have the black buttons on the steering wheel, on the RIGHT side, I believe the RESET button gives you the option to do the System Check. When the Oil life appears on the screen hit the RESET button again. A screen will then show up asking if you want to reset the oil life to NEW, if so select RESET again. The timing is very hard. It took me 3 tries my 1st time.

Why doesn't my 2006 ford 500 driver side seat heater work?

There is a TSB that covers this problem for the 2005 and 2006 Ford 500s, Freestyle and Montegos. This may be due to seat cushion heater harness becoming trapped between the track torsion bar and the cushion when the seat is in the rear tilt full down position. See the following:

TSB 06-2-11 deals with this. You have to replace the seat cushion heater pad, and re-route the harness for it.

HEATED SEATS INOPERATIVE

FORD:

ISSUE

Some 2005-2006 Freestyle, Five Hundred, and Montego vehicles built through 11/22/2005 may exhibit a non-functioning heated driver's seat. This may be due to seat cushion heater harness becoming trapped between the track torsion bar and the cushion when the seat is in the rear tilt full down position. This may cause the solder joint at the seat heating pad to separate.

ACTION

Replace seat pad with new part and reposition harness. Refer to the Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 501-10 Front Seat Cushion Cover for removal and installation instructions.

Where is the auxiliary audio input jack in a 2005 Mercury Montego?

There is no auxiliary jack for any Montego or 500 for that matter. I was told by the dealer that "it has one somewhere". I bought the car and looked and researched, and found that it does not have one! You can buy a "Trip Tunes" accessory from your Ford dealer (this has no ipod control) or aftermarket. I bought an Axxess ipod interface made by Metra. It has ipod control and it works great for me. They do have an aux. only input interface as well. You retain your radio and steering wheel controls.
