What is the meaning of releasing twenty two doves at a funeral?
This was done at the funeral send-off of Aaliyah, the singer. the number corresponded to the singer-actresses age in years. Doves are of course a Peace symbol. a more usual custom might be the ceremonial ringing of bells (monotone- not carillons or tunes)- again one for every year- this was done at the National Cathedral- when First Lady Jacqueline Onassis was buried.- this custom was also followed for Sarah Bernhardt- and chime gongs in theatres sounded the necessary 78 turns. ( the number of Platinum by the way) My guess the bell-ringing is more dignified and funereral than a release of birds flapping about.

Should kids see an open casket?
Children should have death and dying explained to them as completely as they are capable of understanding, and should have the privilege of closure along with everyone else, including attendance at wakes and funerals, if they are old enough to behave themselves. Children are far more likely to be traumatized by death if it is treated as a big secret, and far more likely to come to terms with their loss if they are allowed to understand the process.
This is not to say that all non-Jehovah's Witnesses engage in these things. Personally, I know non-witnesses who don't smoke, drink, or use foul language. However, the majority of non-witnesses engage in these types of things. We seek to pattern our lives after Jesus Christ, to preach bible truths, to live simply, and to show love for our fellow man as stated at Matthew 22:37-39. We couldn't possibly love our neighbor if we were killing them by second hand smoke or polluting their ears with strings of bad words.
Our focus in life is to live in a way that will please our heavenly father, Jehovah. If we associate too often with those who do not have that same focus in life we may lose that desire or pick up bad habits that displease God. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says "Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits". For most people, it's easier to pick up a bad habit than it is to pick up a good one.
So we are careful about spending too much time with non-believers but it is by no means because we think were better or despise anyone who does not share our faith. It is simply for protection.
Another point:
If we are supposed to stay away from people that aren't witnesses, why do so many JWs go door-to-door? Wouldn't that be mixing with people that aren't of our religion?
Addressing the other point
Jehovah's witnesses don't try remove themselves from the presence of all unbelievers After all we have to live and work amongst other people who are not Jehovah's Witnesses most of the day, everyday. Our love for our neighbors (who are mostly unbelievers) moves us to engage in the door-to-door work in hopes that they will learn bible truths, abandon unhealthy ways of life, and pick up good habits that please God. It would be contradictory to our love of neighbor if we did not engage in door-to-door preaching because Jesus commanded us to do so. Matthew 22:39 says "You must love your neighbor as yourself". Verses 29-37 tell us that "your neighbor" is all other fellow humans. And Matthew 28:19 tells us to "Go therefore, and make disciples." We can't make disciples if we don't talk to unbelievers. At the same time we are careful not associate closely with those who persist in bad habits with no interest in pleasing God as this would be detrimental to the good habits and attitudes we seek to cultivate.

Which cultures wear red to funerals?
Last fall I saw the body of a local celebrity, a female Judge- who was laid out in a very formal type of Red Dress, and she had a blonde wighat. It should be noted that various shades of Red were associated with- in the German armed forces color scheme: the Judiciary, Justice officials, Artillery, the General Staff. The linkage of Red to warfare and blood is from the planet Mars. I am not sure how it linked up with the judicial arm. ( a Judicial officer would have red piping on his collar tabs, epaulets, etc- rest of the uniform would be field gray,.) I have heard the term Red Mass applied to a religious mass honoring the Legal profession- nothing to do with Communists or communism! there may be some connection to the German Army"s use of Carmine Red for Judicial officials.
