Gluten

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and other related grains. It is used in baking to give dough elasticity, as well as other cooking and non food items. Gluten-free diets are void of grains containing gluten and are often used for those with celiac disease.

It CAN be gluten free and it SHOULD be gluten free, but some dairies add modified food starch to their packaging. This can also be found listed as food starch-modified. If this is on the buttermilk packaging and there is no certification of the item being gluten free, it is NOT gluten free.

Yes. According to many websites, such as celiac.com or celiacsyndrome.com, Propelyne Glycol is labeled under the "safe" list as not containing gluten.

Is Kraft olive oil mayonnaise gluten free?

Yes, it is. I had the same question. I was concerned about the "modified food starch" that is in the list of ingredients. This is basically hidden gluten, unless it specifies that it is modified corn or potato starch. I googled it and all of the sites say it is gluten free.

What can you eat for breakfast which is gluten free?

Quinoa is a fabulous gluten-free breakfast. This Andean seed is packed with nutrients, fiber, and is a complete protein, leaving you satisfied throughout the morning. You won't feel many cravings until lunchtime, because quinoa is great to keep your sugar levels stable. You can cook it for 17-20 minutes, in twice the amount of water, over medium heat. Then add some milk (regular, almond, soy, or whichever you prefer), blueberries, nuts, flax seeds, and honey or maple syrup. This is a delicious and incredibly nutritious breakfast that you can eat every day.

How does gluten cause inflammation?

Gluten is the protein. You get the same partially digested in your stomach. The polypeptides formed in this process go to your intestine. Three polypeptide sequences out of these are notorious. They probably form the antigen antibody complex with the proteins that are present in the brush border of your intestinal villi. This triggers the cellular response in which the lymphocytes migrate to the site. Not to eat the gluten protein is the only remedy for this problem at present. That is not the end of the world, if you can not eat few grains like wheat.

Is aspirin gluten free?

Who tbe heck knows. It seems like a simple question but it is apparently not. Next time. I see a willow tree i'm harvesting some leaves to make my own tea for headaches like people used to do before big drug companies. The law says drugs do not have to state whether it has or has not. Advil is the only site that confirms it has gluten. This conflicts with glutenfreedrugs website. Advice is to call the company...right. Nothing in writing, idiot who answers phone might not really know...or care...or have time. I have a headache and really not in the mood for doing research on a freaking aspirin that should really not have wheat to begin with....but that is what our law says is okay. Fillers are made from starch, coatings for extended release have gluten to protect from stomach acid...at the expense of small intestine leak. And bleeding...no thanks.

Does gluten free diet affect hair and loss of hair?

Yes, if you are not following the gluten-free diet. When a person with Celiac Disease eats gluten, their small intestine is damaged and it does not work properly to bring in nutrients to the body. Therefore, the calcium, iron, and various other vitamins and minerals are not being used. Without these nutrients, other problems can arise such as hair loss, bone loss, vitamin deficiency, etc. If a person with Celiac Disease follows the gluten-free diet, there is not reason that hair loss should occur.

Does hollandaise sauce have gluten?

Not usually. The ingredients usually consist of egg yolks, butter, salt, cayenne pepper and lemon juice. It is possible it could contain flour if the restaurant is trying to "stretch it out." Best to always ask first just in case, but the standard recipes do not use flour.

Does gluten free food make you gassy?

Yes they can, they cause small intestine bloating an inflation.

Are cornflakes suitable for coeliacs?

You would think that rice krispies and cornflakes would be suitable for a celiac (coelliac) who cannot tolerate gluten but unfortunately not. I bought a cheap little handbook from the Celiac Association and if you read packets of ingreadients you will find it has things like 'Malt flavouring' in them which is not allowed because it is a derivative of Barley! You can buy gluten free cornflakes but they don't taste as nice, but better than nothing. Have a look at the Canadian Celia Assoiation , 5170 Dixie Rd, Suite 204, Mississauga, Canada L4W 1E3 www.celiac.ca tel 1-800-363-7296 and I personally find their pocket dictionary fantastic. What kind of drinks are gluten free?

Okay, so most drinks that someone would consume during the day tend to be gluten free. For example:

Water

Milk

Soft drinks (cola, lemonade, creaming soda)

Wine

Lemon, lime & bitters

Most spirits

Juice

I think the better advice is what to watch out for. With me, I avoid anything chocolate, malt or caramel flavoured, all beers and anything containing ice cream or syrups.

When you can't check the label yourself, it is best to just avoid. Where you can, be checking for 'malt' 'dextrose' 'wheat' 'barley' etc.

I will generally avoid the following:

Nesquick, milo or any sort of mix in milk flavouring

Drinking chocolate & mochas

Flavour shots in coffee (sometimes hazelnut is OK)

Milkshakes (strawberry is usually the only safe flavour) & flavoured milk

Thickshakes (soft serve almost always contains gluten)

Beer

Weight loss shakes

I can't think of much more off the top of my head, but stick with water, soda, juices and unprocessed drinks, you should be fine.

Hope this helps.
