Green Berets

Also called the Green Berets due tot their distinctive service headgear, the United States Army Special Forces are a special operations force of the US Army tasked with unconventional warfare, special reconnaissance, foreign internal defense, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism and direct action. Their official motto is “To Liberate the Oppressed”.

318 Questions

How old do you have to be be in the green berets?

Entry level into the US military. The training is such, that a man would be at least 18 or 19, or older before he could even win the "beret." The process is long.

What are the four beret colors of the US Army?

US ARMY:

Black: everyone, artillery, armor, mechanized infantry, scouts, and grunts.

Tan: Rangers, these are your light infantry special ops, armed with a sidearm or just an assault rifle like a black beret is.

Green: Special Forces commando qualified or considered soldiers, these are land troops with advanced training in things like night operations, stealth, renaissance, marksmanship, camoflauge, and survivial techniques.

Maroon: Airborne, parachutists and halo jumpers, some have training in foreign weaponry.

Hope this helps

Are the Navy Seals or Green Berets a more elite group in your opinion?

This question calls for an opinion-based answer.

All the special operations forces of America are tough. Whether Green Beret,Pararescuemen, Combat Controller, Marine Recon, Army Ranger, or Navy SEALS. But to answer your question, the fact of the matter, is no.

Navy SEALs are indeed tough. But of the U.S. special operations forces, the toughest, or force with the hardest training is U.S. Air Force Pararescue. Pararescuemen are the guys that save the SEALs when therye in trouble.

HOPE I HELPED!

Actually, no, Navy SEALS do not use Air Force Pararescue troops to "save" them. The Navy SEALS use the SWCC teams that they work with within the Navy. Also the 90% dropout rate for PJs include, DOR's along with failures to pass the PSAT. 70% is only the DOR rate of the Navy SEALS BUD/S training.

yes he's right, pj dont help navy seals, swccs are the navy seals best friends and get them out of trouble if the run into it.

NAVY SEALS ARE THE MOST ELITE TRAINED FORCES IN THE U.S MILITARY, more elite than U.S. Air Force Pararescue

Navy Seals do not use Force Pararescue troops to save them them lol

Navy seals work along side The British S.B.S and British S.A.S. Like in recent news where S.A.S took out 50 top Taliban commanders, the attacks, tactics, training was all done and prepared by the S.A.S. Navy seals work under and along side the S.A.S and S.B.S. Navy seals cross train with the S.B.S as there the same thing just diffrent names, except S.B.S was around almost 30yrs before seals were even born. hence why S.B.S e.t.c lead the way as ther have alot more experience.

Navy Seals get some tough training but for the most part they don't have a lot of time in the military or actual experience. Most Navy Seal teams sit around on deployments and don't get used much. The navy is too afraid of losing a sailor they put alot of money into. The attrition rate for a navy seal is around 70 percent. The attrition rate for pararescue is close to 90 percent and that doesn't include the PAST. The PAST is like the test you take to become a seal before BUDS. Special forces attrition is around 80 to 85 percent. Marine force recon attrition is about 60 percent. But, Navy seals and pararescue are typically younger and don't have alot of military experience. Special forces students are typically seasoned soldiers. They are typically in their 30's and more mature. The average time in service for a special forces soldier in the army is around 10 years. Also, in actual conflicts the army and marines are the ones that get hands on experience. Army special forces soldiers are gone all the time, sometimes 10 months out of the year. A navy seal would be lucky to be deployed longer than several months out of a year. I also know most pararescueman will lap a seal in a pool or a track.

Pararescuemen do save SEALs, you don't have a clue. In March of 2002, a team of SEALs were inserted into Shahi-Kot Valley (Afghanistan) to provide observation on the peak of Takur Ghar. An MH-47 Chinook called Razor 03 landed in the SEALs LZ in order to pick up the SEALs, but it was hit by an RPG. As it took off, Petty Officer First Class Neil C. Roberts fell out the back of the open ramp. Razor 03 couldn't help him because the chopper was damaged. It crash-landed 4 miles away. Razor 04, another Chinook, attempted to help Roberts, but the team came under fire. Two SEALs, and an Air Force CCT (named John A. Chapman) were killed. The team requested a Quick Reaction Force, which consisted of 19 Rangers, an Air Force TACP, and a three man Special Tactics Unit. They deployed in Razor 01 and Razor 02. As they exited the aircraft, several men were killed. After a fierce firefight, in short, a PJ named SrA Jason Cunningham was killed PERFORMING MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR RANGERS AND NAVY SEALS. He was former Navy and passed the SEAL physical test, but didn't want that job and crossed into the Air Force to go the PJ route. You talk like your SEALS are so elite (which they are to some extent), you say that they don't need any PJ's saving their necks, but they had to call in a Ranger force, and PJ's to help their SEAL friend... Hmmm, if I was a "high and mighty" SEAL why would I need the Army Rangers to help me (besides the need for firepower, even then, there were only 19 of them)? I'd at least want somebody CSAR oriented to have my back! Also, I know two men who were former SEALs that cross trained to become PJ's. One said the Pararescue route is MUCH TOUGHER but he passed, and the other guy washed out, his biggest problem being the water confidence... As a former SEAL!

Children children please... calm down. You can not really argue whether the Navy SEALs are better and the Airforce Pararescue (Pjs) because their respective purposes and objectives are completely different.

Navy SEALs are traded in direct combat, they go out and fight some serious enemies who standard forces could not take on

Airforce PJs are essentially the paramedics of the special forces (Kinda like your 911 EMS but on steroids). They don't go out on missions specifically to go fight bad guys, they go out to save injured American or Allied forces. This includes anything from a simple medivac (A unit goes to the location of the injured, extracts him/her, treats them and transports them to a hospital) to holding the grounds of an American (or allied) unit until that unit can get to safety.

SEALs are the best fighters

PJs are the best rescuers

Understand the difference now?

AS TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION: Because all the special forces have different duties that all vary slightly or greatly from each other, you can not really say that one is superior to the other. It is only ones upmost personal opinion as to whether the training of a particular special forces is harder/more dangerous than another, as that is really the only grounds you can really compare different special forces.

What weapons do green berets use?

We have access to the same vehicles used by conventional forces and we also use civilian pickup trucks or whatever else we can get depending upon what is available in different situations. Just for example an ODA may use HMMWV, GMV, Quad-4's, Harley Davidson dirt bikes, Kayaks, Zodiac rubber raiding crafts or as I mentioned previously civilian pickup trucks or during the first few months in Afghanistan a few of us conducted operations on horseback

What year were the black soldiers allowed to fight in the US army?

African Americans were not first allowed to join the army due to them unable to bear arms, but after such great African American leaders such as Fredrick Douglas asked men to join and fight for there equal rights, and ensure full citizenship. A example of a important group who fought were known as the 54th Massachusetts's. This group had been formed after president Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in1863, which states that all African Americans were free in south states, but the border states. (the border states were states that did not secede or break away from the union and join the confederacy states). The African Americans that had been still in slavery helped the north because they had rebelled against the south owners by doing things such as working slowly, and breaking tools or equipment.

How do you convert marine corps ASVAB scores to air force?

ASVAB scores apply the same to all of the different branches. No conversions are required. However from talking to recruiters from all 5 branches, I can say that each branch will look at your score a little differently when it comes to what you will or will not qualify for. I have worked with recruiters from every branch and seen this take place. The AS in ASVAB stands for Armed Services, so your AFQT ( overall score - Armed Forces Qualifying Test I believe), applies to every branch

How much does it cost to train a green beret?

The pay scale is the same no matter what MOS (military occupational skill) you have. so if you are a ssgt or E-6 you will get paid the same as every other E-6 in the army. But, you may get more money in a rank if you are in a rank longer, example an E-6 with 3 years in the army wont get paid as much as an E-6 with 15 years in the army. ( it usually takes longer to get rank that fast and reach ssgt in 3 years but, not impossible). And you get additional pay for every skill identifier you have example airborne, Halo, air assault, Pathfinder, scuba, ranger ect, ect, you will get more pay for more things you can do, then if you get hazardous duty pay, cola, BAH, ect, ect. and the army pays you more monthly for every language you speak, so green berets learn a additional language so if you are talented and can speak 3 languages fluently then three more things to get paid for(Spanish doesn't apply). So yes they can make a little more than the average soldier it can also work for a regular soldier it all depends on the individual and his capabilities.

What training is harder Army Green Beret or Navy SEALs?

There both very difficult training programs but you really cant compare their training because there two totally different units

--------------------------

Navy SEALs have the highest percentage of dropouts during training of any elite units in the US military. There is also a much higher level of cross-training than Rangers. The Navys unofficial attitude toward SEAL training is to push the candidates to a level where mental breakdowns would occur before physical ones. The mind is easier to condition than what SEAL and BUDS schools will do to a trainees bodies. Only 'unique' individuals will have the physical blessings to endure training on this scale without their body breaking down. Romantic notions enforced by Hollywood movies aside, Navy SEALS have a reputation as one of the very hardest special operations forces in history.

Are the Rangers and Green Beret both US Army Special Forces?

No you can only be one. When your in the 75th Ranger Regiment its considered a lateral move to go to Green Beret. Green Beret takes extensive training and to keep you fresh eventually they will send you to "Ranger School". It's mainly a leadership school but is meant for light infantry training. So in that since you can have the Ranger Tab and be in the Green Berets, but you can not be in the Ranger Regiment and be Special Forces.

Are there women in Green Berets?

Well the first person was wrong. There is one female Q Course Qualified Green Beret. It was a long story but it was what the movie GI Jane was all about, but they just change the military service for a better story. She was released several times for not making the qualification but always returned to her class due to political pressure from congress above the military branches. At one point she was away from the training for 3 months and returned to the training class that she left while the continued the struggle. She graduated with the class and was awarded the Green Beret patch " Special Forces " but soon after left the Special Operations Command and got in trouble in the military and left the military completely to promote her status as the first woman in the US Special Operations Command as an Green Beret.

What year was the green berets filmed?

The John Wayne film, The Green Berets, was filmed in four different locations. It was filmed in Ft. McClellen, Alabama, Columbus, GA, Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Warned Bros studio.

Are the green berets in delta force?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Delta and Green Berets are two completely different special operations units with very different standards, missions, and roles. Delta Force was formed by a Green Beret (Col. Beckwith), who wanted to create a free-standing special operations unit similar to the British SAS. Delta exists outside of the traditional Army special operations hierarchy and is completely autonomous. It is the most elite, professional, covert, and exclusive special operations unit in the entire US armed forces. Only very select Green Berets and Rangers are asked to try out for Delta Selection. Only a very very small percentage of those actually make it in. Delta has actually run Selection courses where they have not accepted a single candidate. That's how elite and high Delta's standards are. So Delta is the best-of-the-best special operators (Green Berets and Rangers), who once accepted then undergo years of more specialized training.

Green Berets basically specialize in unconventional warfare, training foreign armies, and some reconnaissance. Delta specializes in hostage rescue, recon, direct action, and anything else that needs extreme tactical perfection and covert surgical precision. Delta also takes part in black operations, high-value-target assassinations, etc. So Delta is a big step above the Green Berets, taking the best of them and the best Rangers, and then training them to an utter precision point. Delta is by far the most elite special operations unit that the US has to offer.

Colonel Beckwith was looking to create a unit more elite and specialized than the Green Berets for the purposes of counter-terrorism, autonomous direct action missions, and black operations. Delta exists outside of the Army special operations community and is managed by the Joint Special Operations Command, with a direct line to top Department of Defense brass. Very autonomous and no bureaucracy to slow them down. Delta takes candidates that are the best Green Berets and Rangers, but only maybe 10 (at most) make it through a year. After that, they have years of more rigorous training before becoming a full operator.

Does the green beret still exist?

Yes Green Berets are still around and stil do operations in Afghanistan and abroad.

How long is green beret training?

There are phases of training, the firs is Special Forces Assesment and Selection (SFAS) which last 3 weeks more commonly known as hell weeks. this is the try out to be even considered. if you survive this then next phase is Special Forces Qualifications Course (SFQC) which is the basic SF training, here you learn small units tactics unconventional warfare etc. after this depending on your SF job you are sent to and individual school to learn your specific job within the SF units. other schools and training such as SERE Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape school and LRRP Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol school will also need to be passed. at some point in your training you must learn at least another language as well because you will spend a lot of time with foreign people to train. overall the whole training process is like 2 years. being a top special forces soldier isn't obtainable in a 2 week course my friend.... it is a long a tedious task. hope I helped!

What was the Green Berets' motto?

"De Oppresso Liber" which means to "Liberate The Oppressed."

Your paycheck each week is 500.00 and you want to save 2000.00 in a year how much should you set aside from your paycheck each week?

$38.47; you'll wind up with $2000.44 after a year's time (52 weeks).

To be precise:

1 yr = 52.1775 weeks

so 2000 = 52.1775X

2000/52.1775 = X

X = 38.33

You should set aside $38.33 from your paycheck each week to get $2,000.00 dollars in one year.

Who are the Green Berets?

"The Green Berets" is a nickname referring to the United States Army Special Forces. After being selected for and completing the Special Forces Qualification Course, conducted at the Special Warfare Center (SWC) in Ft. Bragg North Carolina, soldiers are allowed to wear the Special Forces tab and the Green Beret. However not long ago, anyone working in Group Support Battalions were allowed to wear a green beret. This was reversed and stands today allowing only those holding the Special Forces Military Occupation Specialty to wear the Green Beret.

Additional Answer

The green beret is also worn by Royal Marine commandos, and this predates the US special forces' use of the green beret. The green beret must be 'earned', as it is only issued to a marine upon completion of training.
