Should you take your guinea pig to the vet if he has eye boogers?

Yes, it's a good idea to take your guinea pig to the vet if he has eye boogers. Eye discharge can be a sign of an underlying health issue such as an infection or injury that may need treatment. A vet can diagnose the problem and provide appropriate care for your guinea pig.

Why would two young guinea pigs die suddenly?

Well it depends on if u just got them from the pet store or if u got them from a friend.if u got them from the friend, they might have died because of too much stress. or they could have died because of this disease called scurvy. it iz caused because of lack of too much vitamin c.guinea pigs cant make their own vitamin c so there is special drops for their water that has vitamin c. and special chewable pills that tastes like crap(my dad tried 1 to see if they tasted good to my guinea pig or not)that gives ur guinea pig vitamin c. but my guinea pig hates them a lot :p. im only eleven years old but i love to answer these questions a lot. so keep asking questions!!!

How do you tell if a guinea pig is a boy or a girl?

A female pig (gilt) will have a vulva located under the anus right under the tail. The male pig (boar) has two testicles under the tail right before the space between the legs, and will have a sheath on the belly (midway) were the penis extends and urine is eliminated from the system. Male pigs, boars that have had their testicles removed are call barrows. If a male is left intact (testicles left in the body) the meat will stink and not be very good to eat, this happens when the male reaches puberty. So this is why boars must be castrated to produce the best quality of meat. I hope this answers your question.

Do boy guinea pigs have nipples?

No boys don't, only females do cause female Guinea Pigs feed milk to their young

Like human males, yes Guinea Pig males also have nipples.

But the nipples are totally useless.

Is it ok to put a male and a female guinea pig together in a big cage but with a metal wire in between the cage to prevent unwanted babies?

In my experience, this would not work because guinea pigs are very determined. The male will actually manage to impregnate the female through the wire when she is in heat. You would need at least two inches of space between the cages. The good news is, if there are any small animal vets in your area, you can have your male altered (neutered, desexed), they handle the minor surgery very well and with only about the same number of complications as affect rabbits or cats.

Can you walk guinea pigs?

Yes, you can walk a Guinea pig. You can buy a harness for it at a pet store.

However, you should know that wearing a harness and "being walked" is highly unnatural for a guinea pig. In captivity, guinea gigs should be kept with plenty of space. Rocks and rocky ground are good for climbing (which keeps them fit) and for maintaining their claws (wear-out on rocks keeps the claws short and healthy). A balanced diet and appropriate living conditions should be all the guinea pig needs.

If it needs walking, something is wrong with its keeper.

If you have a 2-year-old female rabbit and get a new rabbit can you keep them in the same cage or will they fight?

All rabbits are gregarious and like company. But never add a new rabbit into the existing rabbit's cage as they are very territorial and yours will attack the new one severely. Place the new rabbit in a cage/pen adjacent to your rabbit so they can smell each other and get used to each other. After a few days when they are aware of each other, swap their cages, without cleaning them out first, so they are each going into the other's territory with all the scents of the other still in place in the cage. Keep swapping daily for a few days. After a few days ofalternating cages, place both of them together in a completely neutral place - i.e. not the home of either of them - with distractions - eg. nice grub, and supervise how they behave together. Carry on in this way until you are confident that they have bonded. It may take up to 10 days or so from the time you get the new bunny. If you are intending to introduce a male for the purposes of breeding, this will take less time as his mere presence will bring the doe into season and she will be receptive to him, but it still holds true that she will attack him if you just put him into her territory as soon as you get him.

Are there clothes for guinea pigs?

Yes, there are specially made clothes and costumes available for guinea pigs. These include items like jackets, sweaters, and dresses that are designed to fit the unique body shape of guinea pigs and provide both warmth and style. It's important to ensure that any clothing items are safe, comfortable, and do not restrict the guinea pig's movement.

How long does it take to roast a pig?

The length of roasting time would depend on the size of the pig, whether or not you stuffed it, your coal load and the type of cooker. These comments concern a cooker with cover rather than open pit style.

Most 275 gallon oil drum type of cookers are long enough for a 60-75 lb pig if part of the legs are removed to fit.

7 hours is probably the outside length of time and would likely be a stuffed pig. If the pig is stuffed with fruit, veggies, sausages, poultry, etc. you will need to cook until they are done. If the cavity is open to the heat, the pig will cook from inside and outside but exposing the inside will cook it faster as the heat does not have to penetrate the thick skin and fat layer beneath it.

BEST practice is to use a thermometer and occasionally stick it into the rump to check to see if it hit 140+ When the rump hits that, give it no more than 1 hour. Tend your coal and try not to open it up too often. Remember if it is enclosed, it is an oven and you are letting the heat out.

Where can you find a list of guinea pig breeders in Cincinnati?

Why don't you try the ASPCA/SPCA? They sometimes get small rodents like this who need homes. Or you could look in your local paper. BETTER YET: Contact Karen at This Little Piggy and Me, guinea pig rescue in Forest Park, Ohio (website below). But beware, they will not release piggies to any pet stores or for testing or to feed to other animals. You must fill out a questionnaire and sign a contract--just like an SPCA adoption. But if you want a great friend (or two) their piggies are healthy and happy! http://www.thislittlepiggyandme.com

If she starts bleeding heavier in that two days take her in. If not and it starts to slow down the give it to her for a week. This worked for my spoiled piggy and I have never had a problem w/ her again

What should you do if you have a baby pink farm pig that ate well when you first got her home but now she keeps throwing up her milk?

First off when you say you are feeding "milk" what kind of MILK are you feeding?? People Milk purchased at the grocery is NOT suitable for baby pigs, nor is any form of COLD milk. Goat milk right out of the goat will fatten a piglet quickly and if they are extra small/young you can put them on a bitch dog with pups but be sure to secure the dog as she may try to bite as piglets are born with tit teeth-very very sharp, and this is only a short term fix. The BEST thing you can feed a piglet is a calf milk supplement-it comes in a bag at any feed store, made by manna pro as well as other makers. It is in powdered form and must be mixed with warm water per instructions on the bag-its says its for calves and usually has a cow on the bag, but if you read the fine print its also for pigs/goats etc. Some piglets take to a bottle, most don't and you can feed day olds from a bowl. When I start off piglets on a bowl you have to dip their noses so they can get the idea-the greedy gene usually takes over within 24 hours, if not force some bottle but then put them back on the bowl. Contrary to popular believe piglets are finicky-Ive had the best luck with mixing a strong smelling canned cat food in with the warm milk, making it more a liquid than a mush at first-and late on adding pig started and some dry cat to the milk-making it more mushy than soupy as they grow. If your baby is throwing up and you've been feeding the right type and temp. milk, then there is no harm in giving them a couple cc's of good ol' pepto bismal (for humans). Piglets also commonly get the scours from milk, I once again like pepto but there are over the counter remedies just for this to be had at any feed store. Just like with people if they are vomiting and/or having scours you need to be sure they stay hydrated. ALWAYS have fresh water avail even for the day olds, and I highly recommend an electrolyte supplement that's fairly cheap sold at the feed stores called Bounce Back-once again it has a cow on the package but is suitable for horses, pigs, dogs etc.

Do guinea pigs like to be held?

Actually no. If you sit them in your lap and give them some freedom without holding them, they will actually get used to you. You wanna let them be free in your lap for about a half hour and then you can pick them up and hold them but they prefer not to be held. I would know because I have 12 guinea pigs so no they don't like to be held.

If your guinea pig was pregnant when you got her how can you tell when she is due?

You can estimate your guinea pig's due date by counting from the day she was bred, which is typically around 63-70 days. Signs of labor include increased restlessness, nesting behavior, and a decrease in appetite. It's important to provide a comfortable nest box for her to deliver her babies in.
