Guyana is affected by storms. It's position near the tropical waters of the Caribbean means that it often gets thunderstorms. However, it is note frequently affected by hurricanes because it is close to the equator. Hurricanes get their spin as a result of the Corilolis effect, a consequenace of Earth's spin. This effect weakens the closer you get to the equator. Because of this, hurricanes generally do not form within 5 degrees (about 350 miles) of the equator, and will tend to degenerate into disorganized clusters of thunderstorms if they get too close. Additionally, a huge semipermenent high pressure system, called the Bermuda High, generates a clockwise circulation of air. This causes many hurricanse in the western Atlantic to turn to northward, away from Guyana.

There were many original native American peoples in the area that became Guyana. They include the Wapishana, Macushi, Akawaio, Shebayo, Warao, Arawak, Patamona and Mapidian tribes.

The first people to settle in what would later become Guyana were the Amerindian tribes, such as the Arawaks, Wai-Wai, Macushi, Caribans and others. The first Europeans to note the coast of Guyana where Alonzo de Ojeda and Amerigo Vespucci in 1499. Sailors under Sir Walter Raleigh explored the area of Guyana in 1595, looking for the fabled "El Dorado" - a land rich in gold. There was some settlement by Spanish and Portuguese, but the first Europeans to form colonies in Guyana where the Dutch, who brought over African slaves. Later the British formed settlements and formed British Guiana in 1831. After the emancipation of the slaves, the British brought over Indian indentured labourers. Guyana became independent in 1966.

Guyanese men tend to rather 'macho' and want a woman all to themselves. Like everywhere else, some a gracious, some are loving, some show you a good time....men are the same all over the world.
