Some Muslims may find the act of using a kindle an insult, maybe you should use it else where .While your in the Masjid Al Haram content yourself with reading the copies provided or purchase the Quran. Others may see it as disrespect also, but this is just my opinion, you do not have to take my advise, or you can if you want, but get others opinions before you make the desision. Chose wisely.
Fish of all kinds is Halal provided it is not roated/cooked in swine fat.
What is does hala and haram means?
No Halal doesn't mean Muslim food; the term Halal is applied to anything that is allowed/permitted within the religion of Islam.
For example if we were to say a certain food is Halal it means that we as Muslims are allowed to eat it: food that doesn't contain pork or any of it's derivatives, wine, alcohol. Meat from an animal (cow/beef, sheep/lamb, chicken, turkey etc) which was slaughtered in the Islamic way (called Dhabiha, comes from the Arabic word Dhabh which means to slaughter)
Or for example if I was to say that my money is Halal; it would mean that it didn't come from anything that is forbidden in Islam; such as interest money (Dealing in interest is Haram in Islam) or Drug money or money that was stolen.
Haram is the opposite of Halal and it can be applied to anything that is not allowed/permitted within Islam.
Peace!
Why do Muslims slaughter their animals in a brutal and barbaric manner called halal?
Slaughtering animals is not only an Islamic requirement, it is also a requirement in many other religions including Judaism.
Answer BThey do not make it in a brutal manner as claimed. They kill the animal quickly, and make sure that the animal dies as painlessly as possible. Animals killed this way are considered 'halal food'. Non-halal food cannot be consumed by Muslims. Answer CDr. Zakir Niak in his book 'Answers to non-Muslims common questions' reply to this questiom as;
The Islamic method of slaughtering animals, known as Zabiha has been the object of much criticism from a large number of people. One may consider the following points, which prove that the Zabiha method is not only humane but also scientifically the best:1. Islamic method of slaughtering animal
Zakkaytum is a verb derived from the root word Zakah (to purify). Its infinitive is Tazkiyah which means purification. The Islamic mode of slaughtering an animal requires the following conditions to be met:
a. Animal should be slaughtered with sharp object (knife)
The animal has to be slaughtered with a sharp object (knife) and in a fast way so that the pain of slaughter is minimized.
b. Cut wind pipe, throat and vessels of neck
Zabiha is an Arabic word which means 'slaughtered'. The 'slaughtering' is to be done by cutting the throat, windpipe and the blood vessels in the neck causing the animal's death without cutting the spinal cord.
c. Blood should be drained
The blood has to be drained completely before the head is removed. The purpose is to drain out most of the blood which would serve as a good culture medium for micro-organisms. The spinal cord must not be cut because the nerve fibres to the heart could be damaged during the process causing cardiac arrest, stagnating the blood in the blood vessels.
2. Blood is a good medium for germs and bacteria
Blood is a good media of germs, bacteria, toxins, etc. Therefore the Muslim way of slaughtering is more hygienic as most of the blood containing germs, bacteria, toxins, etc. that are the cause of several diseases are eliminated.
3. Meat remains fresh for a longer time
Meat slaughtered by Islamic way remains fresh for a longer time due to deficiency of blood in the meat as compared to other methods of slaughtering.
4. Animal does not feel pain
The swift cutting of vessels of the neck disconnects the flow of blood to the nerve of the brain responsible for pain. Thus the animal does not feel pain. While dying, the animal struggles, writhers, shakes and kicks, not due to pain, but due to the contraction and relaxation of the muscles deficient in blood and due to the flow of blood out of the body.
Most Muslims in the UK do not claim state benefits and work like everyone else. This is a false assumption based on the usual drivel pumped out by the media.

Same reason as for all other Faiths in the World, not just UK. But here in Australia as well.
There are all Human. There will be just as many, if not more that are hard working. We get the same problem in Australia as well. But not just with Muslim People. But with People all Faiths.
In regard to food (Haram). It depends on The person in question. Not all Christens follow there Faith to the letter, or Jews, Hindus etc.
It just depends on how one feels about one self. In their belief in God they follow. Or if they have Faith in religion at all.
But no one has the right to tell or dictate on anyone or group, on how they should follow any God/Gods or Faith. Or demand on which Faith they follow.
That's how wars start. Bear in Mind in the 20th Century alone. We have lost over 60,000,000 lives, if one from or another, because of Hate.
We all need to accept people for what they are, and just try to be friendly with anyone from different parts of the World.
All Faiths Tech Peace and Goodwill. If you want find out about Islam, then sit down and ask a Muslim person about Islam and just have a nice friendly chat. Don't listen to the Media.
How did the first pillar the shahadah affect a Muslim life?
The First pillar of Islam deals with the concept of believing in ONE God and how not to believe.
The first pillar of Islam sets Islam way apart from Christianity and Hinduism. A distinct line is drawn between monotheistic believes and polytheistic believes. Here Judaism and Islam share the same believes.
The first pillar is also the foundation for the other pillars that follow. Additional to the first pillar is the believe in an inevitable Judgement day, the concept of Angels and jinn, the concept of prophets and messengers, the Quran as a holy book from God (Allah) and the idea of a paradise and hell.
Once the Person have a firm grasp on this first pillar, then he is already considered a muslim. And a it will be impossible to convert to a believe system other than Islam.

In addition to the above that I fully agree upon, the shahadah learns Muslims to ask support and Guidance only from Allah and teaches him/her to be obedient to the commands of Allah and His prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Refer to question below.

Muslims believe that it is evil all what is against Qur'an instructions and against the teachings of prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Examples of evil are:
peaking loudly and with rude words
Quran says:
{Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and dutiful to your parents; kill not your children because of poverty - We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not near to Al-Fawahish (shameful sins, illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, and kill not anyone whom Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause . This He has commanded you that you may understand. And come not near to the orphan's property, except to improve it, until he (or she) attains the age of full strength; and give full measure and full weight with justice. We burden not any person, but that which he can bear. And whenever you give your word (i.e. judge between men or give evidence, etc.), say the truth even if a near relative is concerned, and fulfill the Covenant of Allah, This He commands you, that you may remember. (152) "And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqun } (17:151-153)
Qur'an says also:
{ Set not up with Allah any other ilah (god), (O man)! (This verse is addressed to Prophet Muhammad SAW, but its implication is general to all mankind), or you will sit down reproved, forsaken (in the Hell-fire). (22) And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. (23) And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small." (24) Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance. (25) And give to the kindred his due and to the Miskin (poor) and to the wayfarer. But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. [Tafsir. At-Tabari, Vol. 10, Page 158 (Verse 9:60)]. (26) Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayatin (devils), and the Shaitan (Devil - Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord. (27) And if you (O Muhammad SAW) turn away from them (kindred, poor, wayfarer, etc. whom We have ordered you to give their rights, but if you have no money at the time they ask you for it) and you are awaiting a mercy from your Lord for which you hope, then, speak unto them a soft kind word (i.e. Allah will give me and I shall give you). (28) And let not your hand be tied (like a miser) to your neck, nor stretch it forth to its utmost reach (like a spendthrift), so that you become blameworthy and in severe poverty. (29) Truly, your Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills and straitens (for whom He wills). Verily, He is Ever All-Knower, All-Seer of His slaves. (30) And kill not your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Surely, the killing of them is a great sin. (31) And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Fahishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allah forgives him). (32) And do not kill anyone which Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause. And whoever is killed (intentionally with hostility and oppression and not by mistake), We have given his heir the authority [(to demand Qisas, Law of Equality in punishment or to forgive, or to take Diya (blood money)]. But let him not exceed limits in the matter of taking life (i.e. he should not kill except the killer only). Verily, he is helped (by the Islamic law). (33) And come not near to the orphan's property except to improve it, until he attains the age of full strength. And fulfil (every) covenant. Verily! the covenant, will be questioned about. (34) And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with a balance that is straight. That is good (advantageous) and better in the end. (35) And follow not (O man i.e., say not, or do not or witness not, etc.) that of which you have no knowledge (e.g. one's saying: "I have seen," while in fact he has not seen, or "I have heard," while he has not heard). Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those you will be questioned (by Allah). (36) And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance. Verily, you can neither rend nor penetrate the earth, nor can you attain a stature like the mountains in height. (37) All the bad aspects of these (the above mentioned things) are hateful to your Lord. (38)}.(17:22-38)

There is no question of Hala or Haram in the case of Valentine. Anyhow, the Muslims should avoid celebration of such events as have no base in Islam. Adopting the culture of Christians is not appreciated in Islam. Islam teaches chastity and purity. Any action that is against morality, chastity and purity is not liked by Almighty Allah. Any action that favours/strenghtens morality, chastity and purity among the Jews or the Christians is Islamic in nature. I am sure you know that Valentine does not promote chastity.

Can a poor Muslim eat pork if it is the only option?
Eating pork is allowed in one case which is the one in a deserted place and is soon going to die as he finds nothing else to eat or drink , so , and in this case only eating pork ( with the amount that maintains life only ; and not to reach satisfaction ) is allowed.
note: Eating pork would be like that of eating human (cannibalism).
A Muslim is allowed to eat anything declared haram in Islam provided he is at the verge of death. If he has not found anything to eat for three days. It doesn't amount eating pork as eating some human being. Human being is not haram for being Najas (loathsome). Pork is haram in itself being loathsome and detesting.
