The 1920s was called various names such as "The Jazz Age," the Age of Intolerance," and the "Age of Nonsense." But perhaps the most telling was the "Roaring Twenties." It was the beginning of modern America, in politics, arts, customs and fads, literature, sports, etc. Americans felt a relief following the Great War. The nation had survived the deadly worldwide influenza epidemic of 1918. The Twenties was a time of change for just about all the population. Youthful "Flapper" women provoked the older generation by smoking in public, wearing brief skirts, bobbed hair styles, and the use of lots of makeup. New fads included the Charleston dance, dance marathons, flagpole sitting, and flying stunts in the new airplanes. The affordability of radio provided entertainment in the living room. Many sports became "spectator sports" with Baseball and Babe Ruth perhaps being the biggest. Business continued to grow and outward appearances seemed to indicate no slowdown in site. More new products were developed and the consumer was given the opportunity to buy these products "on time." Government seemed unwilling to try too much regulation for fear of upsetting the economic boom.
Is Harry Truman a good leader?
While it is quite safe to say - " we don't exactly know" - , it is important to remember that Truman came into play at a time when he alone was the only Candidate fit to make the important decisions at the time. President Harry Truman, quite honestly, was hated following his first year in office and not to mention boo-ed during his pitch to start the World Series yet Harry Truman made some key distinctions that, quite frankly, no one else was even capable nor fit to make... and he called some substantial bluffs on just about every world leader of the day. Such character traits paved the way for America to seal the victory, if you will. Historians have said many times that every so many years an individual comes along at the appointed time, and I do mean appointed, to help shore and sustain a faltering nation to health once again ... Harry S Truman was one such individual. It is also important to note Truman had little in the way of crudentials and he was not a great speaker in the beginning, but through his ability to - "hit the nail right on the head" - helped to catapult his confidence to speak and not to mention, tell it like it is - even when no one cared to hear it. If it needed to be said he could sure say it - and rightly at that.
This world would have been tremendously different if Truman didn't make it to the Whitehouse and Americans, both Republican and Democrat, ought never to forget that.

When did Harry S. Truman appear on the dollar coin?
Ugh!! I was given a gold dollar coin with Harry Truman on it as change at a local gas station. I was a bit curious because I'd never seen one with Truman on it and the attendant at the station was quite anxious to give it as change instead of giving me a dollar bill. There was a line of people behind me so I just took it and went on my way. Now that I know there never was one, it really frustrates me. It was only a dollar, but it's the principle behind it!

As a Democrat, he also had some modestly progressive ideas, for example, it was on his order that racial segregation in the US military was ended. Of course, it was not until the much later administration of Lyndon Johnson that action was taken on a federal level about racial discrimination in society in general. But Truman did take a small step in that direction.

What was one result of president Harry Truman demobilization in 1946
Harry S Truman (May 8, 1884 - December 26, 1972) was the thirty-fourth Vice President (1945) and the thirty-third President of the United States (1945-1953), succeeding to the office upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt on April 12, 1945.
Truman's presidency was eventful, seeing the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the end of World War II, the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe, the beginning of the Cold War, the desegregation of the US armed forces, the formation of the United Nations, the second red scare, the creation of the CIA, and most of the Korean War. Truman was a folksy, unassuming president, and popularized phrases such as "The buck stops here" and "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." He overcame the low expectations of many, particularly in the shadow of his politically-dominant predecessor, and although he decided not to run for reelection in 1952 due to low approval ratings, he is now commonly rated among the great Presidents by historians.
