How do you find the volume of a box if given the surface area?
A square will always have zero volume because it has only 2 dimensions. You can find the area of a square by multiplying the length of one side by itself (which is a process called squaring for this reason). You can find the volume of a cubeby multiplying the length of one side by itself, then multiplying this number by the length again (called cubing).
What ACT scores are needed to get into an Ivy League college?
At least 700 on whatever you take. However, not have that number doesn't automatically disqualify you, and having perfect scores doesn't lock you in. It's a crapshoot man.
Answer: It's good to have at least 700 on each subject test you take. That said, having a sub-700 score does not automatically disqualify you, and having perfect 800s on each one does not automatically get you into one of these schools. The admissions committee's selections are heavily subjective, and there are many factors that are important besides standardized test scores. Having high scores is definitely a plus, of course, but there are many more factors that determine the acceptance or rejection of an applicant.

Why john Harvard made the Harvard college?
Harvard was founded as a result of Rev. George Phillips's desire to reproduce in the New World what he most loved in the old one: Cambridge University.
George was a graduate of Gonville and Caius college, Cambridge and was a buddy of Winthrop in England. He arrived in Massachusetts with Gov. Winthrop's fleet.
He managed eventually to change the name of New Towne to Cambridge, but was obliged to respect wishes of the guy who put up the money/land for the first college and so it was Harvard. Harvard was intended to be just one college in a university to be called Cambridge University (in Cambridge of course, just like England ) but George died and things drifted into the present situation of Harvard being used both for the college and for the University.
Harvard College was founded as a Puritan college with its primary purpose to train new ministers. New ministers were needed because with the increasing population of the Puritan colonies of New England, the parishes were strained because there was a shortage of ministers.
The Puritans found Harvard College to ensure the perpertuity of their religious sect. The only classe of three people (other two types of people were strangers and the others) who left England and settled in Colonial New America for solely religious reasons to establish a new sect of Christian Worship outside the Church of England. The Puritians should not be confused with the Separists who wanted to reform the Church of England to their higher standards. The Puritans wanted no part of the Church of England because they thought that church was so far gone that it could not be changed. The population of the first Puritans dramatically decreased (as the general population) due to disease mostly and attached by the Native Americans. Much needed additional Puritans arrived on subsequent ships (Mayflower and others). The Puritans established towns and incorporated laws strictly following their interpretations of the Bible and their religious beliefs. The Puritan belief was different than that of other "Protestant" religions. The first Puritans and religious settlers were more educated, learned, civilized, and devoted to their religion than other subsequent settlers. Before too long, the Puritans were a minority of the new settlers arriving in the New World and eventually the general population. The family (the mother) was responsible for teaching writing and reading to the young children. The reason to teach the children to read was soley to read the Bible and for religious training. But full-time teachers were needed to train religious leaders that were needed to convert new people and establish new churches in new towns. Thus, the Harvard University was founded. Religious education was the primary study in the beginning of Harvard. All of Havard faculty were Puritans. The first classroom of Harvard was the house of a Puritan preacher and educator. The first class consisted of only a handful of pupils. The college grew rapidly after it was chartered by the local governing body and wealthy benefactors were found. Evenutally the Unitarians quickly secularized the school many years later. Please see other sources for more detailed information.
What did Samuel Adams do in Harvard University?
Little is known of Adams's boyhood, and what little is known comes from the comprehensive three-volume biography his great-grandson William V. Wells later wrote. Little other information on Adams's early years has been found. He studied at the Boston Latin School for eight years, learning Latin and Greek. Adams, like most of the sons from Boston's elite, entered Harvard College in 1736 at the age of fourteen. Although his father had expected him to pursue the ministry, it quickly became obvious that Adams had little interest in following his father to the pulpit. Adams progressed through college without distinguishing himself in any way. He was disciplined once by Harvard for sleeping through morning prayers, and he was ranked fifth in the class of twenty-two when ranked by the social standing of his parents. He studied arithmetic, metaphysics, Latin, Greek, rhetoric and other subjects-but he remained surprisingly weak in literature throughout his life. During his junior year, Adams's father lost most of the family's money in a bad business deal, and Adams was forced to work the rest of his way through school by serving as a waiter in the college dining hall. The city fined him five shillings during his senior year when he was caught drinking in public.
While Adams attended college, the Great Awakening swept over New England. The evangelist George Whitefield arrived in Massachusetts, and he deeply affected many of Harvard's men. He worked to convert many of the students to the gospel, and when he left in 1740 it was said that little but "voices of prayer and praise" could be heard on campus. In fact, Whitefield was able to reverse the growing trend throughout Boston of indulging in drink and fine clothes.

The New England Association of Schools and Colleges accredits Harvard University, focusing on undergraduate programs (Harvard College). The graduate and professional schools may also be accredited by different agencies in their respective fields. You might be able to find information about a particular school's accreditation through its Web site. A list of the Web sites for the graduate schools is available on the Academic Programs page. Though the story is much older than the term "urban legend," that is what the Harvard rumor is. Not only is Harvard University accredited, it has been accredited for over seven decades. The New England Association of Schools and Colleges first accredited Harvard in 1929. In addition, Harvard Divinity School has been accredited by the Association of Theological Schools since 1940.

Do you need to get straight A's to get into Harvard?
Absolutely not neccessary, better have something special going for you though. Family relations, meritorious acheivement, or lotsa money works too. Most do NOT have straight "A's" it is OK to challenge yourself beyond what you know. Take the most difficult courses offered and prove you're up for a challenge. Family relations and money (once considered important) are no longer viable excuses. It is just tough odds to get into a school which has 25,000+ applicants and only has 1,600 or so spots available. Do the math.. even perfect scores are not enough. It is not my intention to discourage anyone. Just be realistic with your expectations. If you have really good grades and test scores, have taken tough classes and challenges outside the classroom, have participated in activities or other learning opportunities (in leadership roll preferred), can write at a high level and perhaps have an extracurricular which would benefit the vast number of offerings at Harvard, then give it a try. Rich or poor, connected or not doesn't matter. If you fit you'll get in. If not, there are many other schools who would love to have you. I'd say that straight A's help, but are nowhere NEAR enough to get Harvard acceptance. You have to build a strong record across pretty much everything - from extracurriculars/clubs to academics to standardized test scores to essays/short answers to teacher recommendations. Ultimately, the #1 thing you must do is show a clear passion for something, and excellence in that passion.
