HDMI cables are used as digital video and data links between video sources and televisions. HDMI is compatible with DVI interfaces so if the laptop has a DVI output, a DVI to HDMI cable can be used.

If the laptop does not have HDMI or DVI, then there is no way to connect the VGA output to an HDMI input. There are several USB based video displays that can be purchased to connect to the laptop. The display can be used as a copy of the internal screen or it can extend the desktop across both screens. Select a display port that has either DVI or HDMI outputs.

A digital camera can still work even if the monitor (lcd/tft) is broken, but in that case you would always have to connect it to a laptop or PC to be able to see what you have stored on the memmory card. a second question could be" is it whise to let the monitor be replaced by a new one?

In most cases the answer is No simply because digital cameras have become cheaper. Nowadays it is possible to spend very little money (in Europe about 70 - 150 euro) and have a new camera with much more possibilities as the old one.

The lcd can be fixed (replaced by a new one) but most of the time it simply costs more than buying a new camera"it can only be wirth the costs if you have a very special camera (read very expensive and lots of possiblilites) or if you have a emotional binding with the camera.

No single company is the source company for Best Buy's Insignia products, it just depends upon the specific electronic item, its model or features, and the time at which the contract was awarded.

They're both good and at the same time, they both have their specific problems, depending on the manufacturer, size of screen and intended uses.

The LCD sets are becoming higher in resolution and are now comparable to the dlp sets. What I would suggest though, it that you decide which one you like looking at best and then at least decide on what type, LCD or DLP you'd rather have.

Keep in mind that the big box stores spend a lot of money on making sure the TV's displayed in the showroom display the highest quality picture. That's usually a high definition DVD or at the least, a HD satellite feed. Chances are that when you get it home, and unless you have all HD equipment, you'll not see the same picture quality you saw in the showroom.

With all that being said, this is where you have to do some homework. Check Consumer Reports, keeping in mind that they usually rate the new models and product's service history hasn't been established since the TV's are so new. Also check 'blogs and answer boards on the internet. Usually there, you'll hear about TV's that are a year old or older. Why do that? Because the manufacturer's past product lines and complaints could be a good guideline on what to expect.

Once you've gathered all your information and have made your decision, do one last thing: BUY THE EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT! The costs to have service come out and the costs of the parts could prevent you from being able to repair your set once the factory warranty runs out. The parts for today's TV's are very expensive and sometimes as much as the original cost of the TV.

No my local channels all but one that is broadcast in both analog and HD digital but they tend to black out a lot. But with a powered antenna the kind you plug into the wall i get a beautiful crisp clean HD picture you can pick a good one up for around 30-40 bucks but don't buy the cheap 15 dollar one's :)

I have a Sony KDL-52XBR4 connected to my Mac-Mini via a DVI to HDMI cable and it works fine. All I did was change the resolution to get it working. I'm pretty sure is in the 1280x800 range (I'm moving and the TV is in transit so I can't check at the moment). BUT, it does work and I use it all the time to watch iTunes & surf on Safari to watch Hulu. There is one quirk, the MacMini will invert the colors periodically, but I found a script someone else wrote that resets the display settings.

Hdmi carries audio and video. You will have to connect every component to the receiver that you wish to have the audio portion routed to your surround sound or stereo system. As for the picture you can route from the component straight to the TV if you are only using the TV as a monitor. You will still have to get the audio to the receiver or just use the TV speakers. I had some concerns about loosing picture quality by making an extra connection at the receiver before going to the TV so since I had the ports available and my components did not favor one signal over the other I went from the components straight to the TV and use optic cables for the audio to the receiver. If you have one long and one short HDMI cable try routing component to receiver to TV then try going straight from the component to the TV and see if you notice a difference in the picture. The easiest connection is route everything through the receiver. If price is the issue Monster cable is only one of the best. You can get the same quality for less than half the cost.

No, Freeview is a terrestial service and receives its signal via a conventional UHF TV aerial. You may be interested in Freesat which is a recently launched service which provides a similar channel line-up to Freeview but via satellite.

Some early flat screen TVs used cathode ray tubes, but the flat faced tubes were harder to make and heaver than the older curved faced tubes. When newer designs (e.g. plasma, LCD, LED) came out that naturally produced flat screens and were lighter weight than cathode ray tubes, they rapidly made flat screen cathode ray tube TVs obsolete.

If the internal capacitors are separate, I mean that there are 4 terminals, a separate positive and negative for each internal cap then you can connect them in two ways. If you connect them in parallel (positive to positive and negative to negative) you just add the values together, so if each is 100UF they total 200Uf and the voltage you can apply is whatever is rated on the body. If you want to increase the voltage so you can apply higher voltage you connect them in series, one of the negatives connects to the others positive and the remaining inputs are connected to the circuit (and if each is equal in value) you divide by two so they would only be 50UF in capacitance but the total voltage you can apply is double the rated level on the body. If the caps are of different values it gets more complicated, you have to calculate the C total buy using the following formula: 1/C total = 1/C1 + 1/C2. Then the voltage dropped across each cap is proportional to the values you calculated above. Remember, the total voltage will be dropped across the caps proportionally so if the caps are rated at 50V for example and they are not equal values, you can't connect them up to 100V because the larger of the caps will have more than 50V across it because of the mis-matched value of each.

1080p and 1080i both refer to the format of a video signal. Any HD television will receive the signal and display it. If the television reports the signal standard being received, it will let you know what the signal is. Therefore, the television cannot be changed from one standard to another as it simply handles the incoming signal.

Currently, broadcast HD signals are almost exclusively 1080i with a few formatted as 720p. Both are considered full HD even though the resolutions are different. 1080p is found on some local sources such as games consoles and Bluray players but has not yet made it to mainstream broadcast services.

A 1080p set has higher native resolution and supplied with 1080i (e.g., from some cable or satellite programs) or 1080p signal (e.g., from Blue-Ray discs) will provide sharper picture, especially visible on bigger sets (42-inch or more) and from up-close. 1080p sets are however way more expensive than 1080i ones. All flat panel HDTVs (i.e., plasma and LCD), as opposed to CRT tube sets, are inherently progressive in nature. For marketing reasons, however, some manufacturers promote 720p (p for progressive) HDTV as 1080i (i for interlaced), mainly to signal, I suppose, that it supports 1080i signal and to improve their sales. The so called '1080i HDTVs' take a 1080i signal and downconvert the picture to the 720p resolution. Additionally, they de-interlace the 1080i signal and display it in progressive scan mode but in 720p resolution. So, a 1080i TV set is in reality a 720p set, but many manufactures designated 720p sets as such as soon as 1080p sets came along. 1080p sets, on the other hand, take 1080i cable or satellite signal and only deinterlace it, creating a progressive scan, meaning the picture is painted from the top to the bottom line (there are 1080 such horizontal lines) in a single pass and this process happens 60 times per second (in the US). This means that same size HDTV sets designated as 720p and 1080i have identical native resolution of the display. Quality of the picture depends only in part from resolution, however, and according to some professionals the most important aspect of picture quality is contrast ratio, the second most important is color saturation, the third is color accuracy, and only the fourth is resolution.

All LCD displays use progressive scanning, namely the whole frame is built up line by line rather than odd lines followed by even lines. Therefore, by default, 1080i will be converted to 1080p, but at a frame rate of 25Hz or 29.97Hz. 1080p sets take 1080i cable or satellite signal and convert (deinterlace) it, creating a progressive scan, meaning the picture is painted from the top to the bottom line (there are 1080 such horizontal lines) in a single pass, and this process (in the US) happens 60 times per second. 1080p is normally run at 50Hz (Europe) or 59.94Hz (North America). 1080i is normally half that frequency. Even if the signal is converted from 1080i to 1080p, there is no additional picture information and therefore, little is gained by the conversion. If the television actually does the conversion, it is worth doing a comparison between converted and unconverted to see which produces the most pleasing results.

I don't think it has. Bandwidth depends on the diameter to length ratio of the antenna. The greater the diameter of the elements the wider the bandwidth. The inductance goes down and the capacitance goes up, giving the antenna a lower Q. the folded dipole has a greater effective diameter (at least double for the same materials). You can increase a normal dipole's bandwidth by increasing the diameter, hence the old time birdcage aerials.

You should not place a TV on an electric fireplace, unless it is a TV and Media mantle. Most of the standard models are not secured enough to hold the unit. TV and Media Electric Fireplaces and constructed to hold the weight of all of your media.

If these are the exact voltages that you need you will need an auto transformer to obtain these voltages. If these voltages are nominal voltages and are of a three phase four wire configuration, the 220 voltage can be obtained from the three phase legs to the neutral (ground) connection.
