After you are done hunting or shooting for the day, wipe the exposed metal parts down with an oil cloth(gun cloth), to remove any moisture and perspiration. This will keep the metal from rusting. If you were caught in the rain while hunting or shooting, you will need to run an oiled patch through the bore of the barrel and clean the action, ending with an application of oil, to prevent rust, as well. The only time you would need to scrub the bore with a bore cleaner(solvent), is when accuracy falls off. The use of smokeless powder and non-corrosive primers in ammunition, does not necessitate the constant bore-cleaning of a rifle, after it has been shot.
