If the store is located within the municipality that issued the ID card, then it will likely be accepted as sufficient identification. Otherwise, store policy will apply and a decision will have to be made based upon how much they want your money and how suspicious they are that you might be committing fraud.

Not the DMV officials themselves, but they will certainly notify law enforcement the minute they see on their computer that you are wanted.
