It was not.
At the end of the war India was still one country. India was partitioned into TWO countries India and Pakistan when the people of the former British colony obtained their Independence from Britian. The Muslim people in the colony insisted on the separation as part of the independence agreement.
However, the country of Pakistan could not hold itself together politically and ssome time later broke into two independent countries, one on each side of modern India.

Tenzing Norge was never an Indian. Sherpa people live in many countries like in Nepal, Bhutan, India, Tibetian China in the foothills of the Himalayas. Tennzing was Nepalese citizen and remained so (didn't change his citizenship).

1965: Third Indian Expedition, with Commander M.S Kohli as leader. On May 20, 1965 they succeed when A.S. Cheema and Sherpa Nawang Gombu ascend the SE Ridge. Gombu becomes the first person to summit Everest twice (the 11th and 17th summit). Out of the first seventeen summits of Everest, Nawang had two of them! Additional summits were achieved by Sonam Gyatso, Sonam Wangyal, C.P. Vohra, Ang Kami, H.P.S. Ahluwalia, H.C.S. Rawat, and Phu Dorje.
