Tara Cherian (May 1913 - 7 November 2000) was an Indian social activist and politician. She was the first woman mayor of Madras city. The Government of India awarded her the civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan in 1967.

The fifth Prime Minister of India was Rajiv Gandhi, who served from 1984 to 1989. Dr Upinderjit Kaur is first woman Finance Minister of any State Government in India. She became the FM on 20th October, 2010 in Punjab Govt.

Dr Upindrejit Kaur is the first women to occupy the post in the independent India. She is the first FM who possesses Ph.D in Economics. Before, she has been working as a Professor at Punjabi University, Patiala and wrote two books on Economics.

She is the daughter of late S. Atma Singh, Veteran Akali Leader, Former Cabinet Minister, Punjab Government, General Secretary & Patron Shiromani Akali Dal and Member & Acting President SGPC, Amritsar.

Upinderjit Kaur had completed MA in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University and has done Ph. D in Economics from Punjabi University Patiala. She has also taught Economics at Sydney University, Australia in 1974 and guided 26 students in M.Phil and Ph.D degrees in Economics.

Upinderjit Kaur is elected to the Punjab Assembly in three consecutive terms during 1997, 2002 and 2007.

Anna Hazare is one of India's well-acclaimed social activists. A former soldier in the Indian army, Anna is well known and respected for upgrading the ecology and economy of the village of Ralegan Siddhi which is located in the drought prone Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra state. The erstwhile barren village has metamorphosed into a unique model of rural development due to its effective water conservation methods, which made the villagers self-sufficient. Earlier, the same village witnessed alcoholism, utter poverty and migration to urban slums. Inspired by Hazare's unique approach of salvaging a hopeless village, the state government has implemented the `Model Village?scheme as part of its official strategy. Hazare is now synonymous with rural development in India.

Yes, the country of India does have a Vice-President. As of July 2014 the current Vice-President is Mohammad Hamid Ansari who has been in this position since 2007.
