I think it depends on whether you intend to download books away from your internet connection. Generally most people would use their home internet to download books and then take their kindle away with them. Now you can download a program to transfer the songs from your ipod to your computer. Music rescue is great and it's free. There is just a message that comes up every 50 songs asking you to buy. It copies all your songs from your ipod to your computer. You can choose to transfer directly to itunes or create a folder of your songs. I recommend you create a folder and add it to itunes. Once you have all your songs in itunes double check all of your songs play and they don't have errors.
