The Jordanian waqf, not Palestinian officials, govern the Temple Mount. Israeli police provide security. The Waqf want only Muslims, because it is comfortable for them and they feel good about exercising power over others. They would be happiest with a situation akin to Mecca or Medina, where only Muslims are allowed to breathe the air.

The Israelis defer to the Waqf and do not want to risk World War 3 over some religious fanatic causing trouble.

The Israeli government is implicated in this utterly discriminatory policy. It is a true outrage.

The Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca (Makkah) in Saudi Arabia. The Prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca in 570 A.D. I'm not sure that any place is entitled to be called "The Center of the World". First things first . Muslims don't pray to mecca , Muslims don't pray to some black stone or Muhammad or some emperor ,etc etc. Muslims pray to Allah and mecca is not Allah .

5 times prayer a day is commandment of Allah for a Muslim to do so and it si duty of a Muslim to pray 5 times a day.

The main sacred place in Mecca (or Makkah) in Saudi Arabia is the Kaaba that is considered the first God House on earth. The pillars of Kaaba was raised by prophet Abraham (aided by his son Ismael); peace be upon them. Kaaba is surrounded by the Grand Mosque (or AlMasjid Alharam) that can accommodate up to 4-5 million Muslim to pray.

"Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah ('Mecca or Makkah), full of blessing, and a guidance for Al-'Alamin (the mankind and jinns).In it are manifest signs (for example), the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham); who so ever enters it, he attains security. And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah or Kaaba) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah (or God and same God in Christianity and Judaism), those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns)." (3: 96-97)

Most Israeli Muslims who serve in the IDF are Bedouin males. Muslim women and ethnic Palestinians (both men and women) are much less common.

The holy city of Makka was established by Hazrat Abraham (AS) and his son Hazrat Ismaiel (AS). Both of them built the Kaaba (The House of Almighty Allah). Then they sent a call to the world people to come to Makka for pilgrimage. Many of the Prophets of Allah are buried in the Kaaba. People from all over the world used to come to Makka for pilgrimage even before the birth of the last Prophet of Islam (MPBUH).
